For those who have read the original Warriors series, you know that Scourge is pure evil with no mercy and no regret, you may ask, why is he this way? Well here's his story, and you may not judge him so harshly after you hear it.

Why Scourge hates Tigerstar...
Tiny goes to the forest, running away when Ruby and Socks say that his owners will throw him in the river.
When he crosses Thunderclan territory, he meets a patrol with Bluestar, Thistleclaw, and Tigerpaw (Tigerstar).
Thistleclaw tells Tigerpaw to attack Tiny, while Bluestar is telling them that Tiny is no threat to Thunderclan. Tigerpaw attacks and nearly kills Tiny, but Bluestar tells Tigerpaw that he taught Tiny a lesson. Scourge is out for revenge...

Scourge wouldn't be evil by now if...

Ok first of all, quit saying it is Tigerpaw's fault for Scourge being evil! THISTLECLAW gave him the order, as his MENTOR. THISTLECLAW taught Tigerpaw how to be evil, murderous, and his hunger power.
ALSO... it's actually NOT Thistleclaw's fault either!
It all started in Crookedstar's promise. When Crookedjaw is dreaming in the dark forest, he is being trained by Mapleshade. Meanwhile, Thistleclaw is in the same place training the deathbite with Shredtail and Mapleshade asks Crookedjaw if he wanted to learn it.

It is mainly SHREDTAIL'S fault. If Thistleclaw wasn't mentored by him, he wouldn't be evil, he wouldn't have mentored Tigerpaw to be cruel, and Tigerpaw wouldn't attack Scourge. So it's ALL thanks to SHREDTAIL.
Also, Bluestar wouldn't have gave her kits away,(Mistystar, Stonefur, and Mosskit),and Mosskit wouldn't have frozen to death when Bluestar was sending her kits to Riverclan.

So this is the truth on why Scourge is evil. Pretty sad, huh?

Scourge was born as "Tiny", one of three in a litter. His littermates, Socks and Ruby, did not like him at all. The only time they would even play with him was when "Mama" made them. Ruby even told Tiny that he would be thrown in the river, since no twolegs wanted him as a pet.
So, Tiny ran off to live on the streets. He shed the name "Tiny" and everything about his old life, and quickly becomes the head of the street cats.
When his littermates come crawling to him for help after being left behind when their twolegs moved, he allows them to eat, then shuns them from his area forever.
His sister, Ruby, made a comment about him being out for blood, and he replies that that is his way of life and that she is too weak. This is how he comes to name his clan, BloodClan.
In the end, he settles his differences with ThunderClan by killing their leader, and then brags about how much he has changed.

By far the superior of the Graystripe graphic novels. "The Rise of Scourge" has a great story and really good drawing. (I refuse to admit that this is manga, but this art is much more befitting of a book called manga.) I love the art. I don't like to buy these books because they're so short--this one only has 79 pages of actual story--but I liked this one enough that I might have to get it for myself.
I was very impressed with this book. Scourge is one of my favorite characters from Warriors, so reading this is really interesting. It makes so much of The Darkest Hour just click.
Pros: great art, story, etc.
Cons: so short :( And there isn't a sequel. Waah! Poor book just lost a star.
Hopes and Dreams: More character singles such as this will be drawn/written, e.g. Yellowfang, Tigerstar, Spottedleaf.

Prologue

I let out squeaks of pain as I lay down. I looked uo at Jake, the ginger tom standing over me, my one true love. He looked urgently down at me. I turned my attention on my swollen belly. I took many deep breaths. The female house folk who gives me food stayed up late into the night to watch. The twoleg kits where asleep. There was no question to m or anyone here on what was happening. I was giving birth to my kits.
Jake looked puzzled down at me. I couldn't help but be scarred on what was going to happen to me. Everything hurt from the tips of my tail and my claws. I should be able to take care of myself, but I was too weak. I felt so weak that it seemd that I was meaningless. I just wanted this to be over.
Then I saw Jake's eye's twinkle. There was a small lump of fur behind me. I looked at my child. The kit had black and white fur and was slowly breathing. Jake began to lick the kit.
"It's a boy." He purred. I sighed. There was one out, but it still wasn't over. A few minutes later I saw a new shape come. It was a gray she-kit. Since the black and white kit was already warm, Jake began to lick the girl. I purred. She looked just like me. All of a sudden I felt another piece of fur drop behind me. I turned my head and tilted my head at the kit. It was black and had some white on his front left paw.
I starred in discuss at him. He was small, too small. I pushed him aside Jake looked up in horror as he saw me push the kit aside and lie back down.
"What did you do that for?" He asked. I looked up into Jake'd green eyes.
"Just look at him!" I said.
Jake turned his head to look at the small bundle of black fur on the ground. His small eyes where closed and facing back at us.
"I don's see anything wrong whit him." He respond.
"How coul you not see it?" I asked. Jake ignored me and reached out to warm the black kit too. I hissed at him.
"Put him back! Dont't waste any time on...that."
"Quince, this kit is a living cat and i'm not going to push him aside because he is small." I gladed up at him.
"He won't last two hours!" I said "Don't even bother or you might risk killing our daughter too."
Jake looked back at me.
"I don't belive this! You're giving up on a cat; you're giving up on a kit, and for what? Just because he seems too small at the first glance?"
I couldn't belive this ether;Jake was always wasting his time on meaningless things.
"Hes is going to sie!" I hissed.
"What if he doesn't? What if we kill him when he was going to live anyway?" He asked "What kind of label would that give us? Murders? Savages? It doesn't matter. We just will know we did the wrong thing."
My ears dropped as I realized what I had just said. Jake was right, this wasn't a good idea.
"Besides, he could grow up to become a fine cat to good fot others. You just never know." I closed my eyes
"Your right, I'm sorry I'm just kind of grouchy after the birth." I said looking at my paws.
"I understand." Jake said. He laid his head on my gray fur and I purred. I don't know what it was but everything made sense around him.
"He is still small though." I said. Jake opened his eyes.
"Well... he can't really help can he?" He asked.
"No, I guess not."
After I licked the small black kitten severald times, we settled down. The twoleg went to sleep and the three kits all lais beside me. They where so beautiful, well almost all of them. I guess I was being picky and wanting my kits look perfect. Silly me. I really do wish the last one was...normal sized. Was that wrong? It seemed wrong to me.
I sighed. He really was a cute kit; maybe I should give him a chance. After all, he is my son. I should be happy that I have a son, but he was small. I guess I have the other two kits. I love the. They didn't have anything wrong with them.
"What should we name the kits?" Jake asked.
"You can name the black and white kit." I said. Jake looked down at the kit. Names flooded through his head.
"Socks." He finally said. I smiled. Socks was a good name. "You should name our daughter. After all, she has her mother's looks."
I blushed at his coment and looked down at my daughter. I was lost at names. She looked like me, so maybe I should give her the name I always wanted.
"Ruby" I said. "The name fits he perfectly. She will be our little princess." Jake smiled
"Socks and Ruby. I like those names." He said "What about this one?" I hade almost forgot about the small black kit in my paws. I didn't want to sound mean so I just responded to Jake.
"You can name him." I said.
"No, you sould name him." He said. I wondered if he was thinking the same thing I was. Thia kit was so small, so puny, and do tiny, that I hade to make him remember that. I couldn't see any other thing to call him.
"He should be named Tiny." Jake looked up at me. "It's the only name will ever fit him."

Hmm. Well, I felt sorry for this poor tiny kitten and all he went through. To quote something else, what was done to him was monstrous ... and it created a monster. Yes, Scourge had a tragic kittenhood, but it was his choice to turn into a cold-blooded killer. The message of taking revenge on your enemies and becoming cold as ice inside are not ones that should be promoted to adults, let alone children. The story left me disappointed. There was no redemption. No, thank you.

High three stars. This book just released in full color, so I’m rereading it for the millionth time.

All things considered, this book is great. It’s so short that it doesn’t have the time for the usual Warriors issues, but at the same time it’s almost too short. It doesn’t feel like we have time to get to know Scourge because he tells us everything he feels. Because the book is a graphic novel, we should be shown some of this, but the authors don’t seem to trust us to pick up on things, so we don’t get that.

In terms of characters, Socks and Ruby and basic, boring bullies, and we don’t get to see Scourge learn to fight, when that’s what even Firestar admitted he was good at. In addition, I’ve always been bothered that the scene where Scourge is attacked in this book is different than in Bluestar’s Prophecy. Also, even though this book is now in full-color glory, we still can’t see any blood for some reason. The other graphic novels have no trouble showing this now that we’re in color, and I’m not sure why this one didn’t.

Art-wise, this book is super cool! It’s done by a different artist than the usual Warriors graphic novels, so the cats look different. For a small manga originally released alone (as in no three-parters like the other ones), I think this was a good decision. For being the very first Warriors graphic novel, I’m happy it got the full color adaptation it deserved.

The Rise of Scourge was a delight to read! I love the art style, which is different to all the other manga. Tiny's journey to becoming Scourge was simple but emotional, and my only complaint with this book is the one I usually have with the graphic novels - they're far too short! I love Scourge, and if you do you will certainly enjoy this book.

It's my first Warriors manga and I have a dissertation, what else is newwwww.

I'm unaware if all the Warriors manga books have both B&W and full color editions. I'm glad I went with the latter (though possibly there's a nostalgia vibe to reading the B&W editions). We have a different artist from the newer graphic novels, and I enjoyed this art more, for reasons I'm not enough of an art person to explain. These cats were just fun to look at, page after page? They made Scourge look so cute??

Yeah, about that. I don't often read stories like this and don't know how to feel about retconning a villain through an origin story. Scourge isn't a super popular villain from the original series, but he played an integral role in , so I guess we can't hate him that much. Still, why turn this ruthless murderer into a big-eyed kitty you'd never refuse to feed? Hurt people hurt people is a worthy message, I guess, and the purpose of this story is to show the trauma that shaped him into a cat that kills.

Also a message worth repeating is that mediocre men can achieve anything. Initially called Tiny, Scourge is made fun of by his siblings and ostracized to the point he runs away. He manages to befriend some city cats by inadvertently pretending to be a badass fighter and keeps up the ruse long enough to become a leader of the pack. Even the dog teeth he collects in his collar, meant to symbolize dogs he's killed, aren't from dogs he's actually killed; the first one landed there purely by accident when he used it to try to get the collar off. It's maddening, but hey, men do this alllllll the time!

Those who are reading chronologically are by now familiar with the scene in which Scourge first meets Tigerclaw, who almost kills him before Bluefur steps in and stops him. This becomes the core of Scourge's origin story, and he vows to seek vengeance on Tigerclaw. I kind of love the interconnectedness of everything, even though much of this is the Erins retroactively developing these backstories. It makes the original series that everyone already loves that much more enjoyable.

There's a rather big revelation in this book, and I was surprised to go to the reviews and not see anyone talking about it. Maybe others don't see it as the bombshell I do, but . Anyway, somebody please talk to me about the casual mindfuck the Erins dropped in here before I lose it, thanks.

When I first heard of Scourge, he was just a villain with not a lot of character. No backstory or anything, and not a lot of time in the series. I couldn't understand why so many people liked him till I read this! The art style was different from the normal "manga" but it was enjoyable, and as for Scourge... I see why people like him, because now I do too!

I think this might be my first review on this site, so please bear with me.

I have to say that although this book is one of my favorites, I do have some pretty mixed-feelings on it. I think that the story is quite interesting, and I do really like the artwork and ideas present. However, I think that the story went by a bit too quickly. Perhaps a bit more could be done to elaborate Scourge's role as the leader of Bloodclan, as well as what happened after he left. Did his mother worry about him at all; did she go looking for him? I think this addition to the story could have added more depth, as well as showcasing the impact that both his past and his current decisions had on his life, and the lives of others.
One more thing I would like to mention is a bit of a nit-pick, but still. Given Scourge's character and his relationships with his siblings, he probably would've asked his mother if he really would be thrown into the river if he wasn't adopted. But again, this is just a slight nit-pick.
Why am I writing this lengthy of a review of a cat book? Well, I have no idea; I just wanted to, I guess.

Anyway, please feel free to disagree with me. Opinions are opinions, after all, and it's okay to have them as long as they aren't actually harmful.

This was a good story, but I wish it had been in writing book form, not manga- I feel like the story was rushed, and it could have been described much better in a regular book way, not a graphic novel type thing. But still, the story had a strange affect on me.

When I read Warriors: The Darkest Hour, I hated Scourge. He was a cruel, ruthless villain, killing all those cats and all those other things that he did. I was glad when he died. But now...now I can't help seeing the tiny little cute kitten he once was. I felt so sorry for him at the beginning of this book, and I can understand why he grew cold and evil! I sympathize with him, and I don't think he is entirely bad...I actually like him now. I am sad that he died, if you can believe it- because he could have changed back to what he once was.

I found the artwork very good and this book definitely isn't boring. Although I have to say there is no hero or good side - pretty evil, which in my opionion doesn't make the story very dynamic, and many people don't like reading about evil and no good. It's based on the story of an evil cat called scourge and how he becomes infamous and evil. He got picked on and teased when he was young and his grudge grows. He wants to prove himself - get revenge. This book is closely linked to the darkest Hour (Original Warriors arc) because that's where you mmet scourge and where he becomes linked with the clans - this is a good source of background info - bit there is no conversion and as we find out in the darkest hour - he died the way he lived.

It's the second time I've tried buying this book and I finally got it. A classic of course, the art is amazing (wish the artist could have done more books for warrior cats).

The plot is kind of sad, seeing how Scourge was so neglected as a kit and the things his siblings told him...
Even though I wished it could be a bit less fast-paced and it could have deepened in why he wanted to stay in the forest so badly if his objective was vengeance against Tigerstar. Or what happened to Ruby and Socks after reuniting with Scourge to ask for food.

A really edgy manga about the edgiest warrior cats character. Most of the content of the book I already knew because of YouTube amvs but now I know Scourge likes chicken lmao.

Tiny is a small kittypet. He lives with his brother and sister, who constantly bully him and his kind, loving mother. One lie from his sister sends him running into the forest where he meets up with some wildcats. This incident leaves him for a desperate quest of revenge.

This small comic series has you step into the pawsteps of one of the most evil villans of Warriors, Scourge. This book was nicely drawn with a lovely plot.

Too generally sad for me to enjoy this, but some things make sense to me now. Except Scourge is no demon, he's Tiny who is just fed up with all your mocking and about to show you how to rule the town.
(Didn't know cats would judge each other by their size, but it's a fantasy series, so whatever.)
Scourge would deserve a happier fate. SPOILER: Tigerstar got exactly what he deserved, though.

3.5 stars, pretty good for a graphic novel, i read it in 30 minutes as it was only 82 pages. i really liked the way the end linked back to the darkest hour (book 6 the prophecies begin (my fav warriors book)), and it also explaines the story behind scourge well.
