When Kat Forrest is nearly killed in Los Angeles by a man with powers and a mysterious grudge, Sienna Nealon doesn't think twice before coming to save the day. But as the threat grows nearer, old tensions between Sienna and Kat rise to the surface, and caught in the middle is Scott Byerly, a former flame of both of them. Will Sienna be able to put aside her grievances and save Kat from her attacker – and possibly herself – in time?
Robert J. Crane was born and raised on Florida's Space Coast before moving to the upper midwest in search of cooler climates and more palatable beer. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in English Creative Writing. He worked for a year as a substitute teacher and worked in the financial services field for seven years while writing in his spare time.
I rarely do reviews, but usually with series they story line gets to crazy and way out of realm where fantasy reality cannot possibly exist - it is just too out there. Glad fully this series hasn’t (So far) gone there and has really added the characters to speak to the readers which is nice and fun. The epilogue hinted at that Harmon lost the Presidency (at least in the kindle version — I have found so many errors in the kindle books it is terrible they are even released). I was really hoping for the other guy to win or an earth shattering death of the whole cabinet, lol (Not, Sienna’s doing either). I thought Kat coming around to Sienna was a nice touch and hope that there is another friend for Sienna to count on and not turn her back - we will see. If you’re looking for a long committed series take a look at this one - or this author has other series and while I don’t know of their storyline, I do know that this author writes well. So, if you’re not into this one; try a different one of his series. Be safe and be nice to someone today; you might make their day a happy one!
I would absolutely recommend this book and in fact I would recommend the whole series to anyone I know. I liked how there was never a boring second in the book and you just couldn't put it down because there was always a twist in the plot or something huge happening. The character development also helps keep it interesting because you didn't know when the characters were finally going to some of their senses. The author also always knew how to draw you in with the plot and he is amazing at keeping you addicted to the series no matter what. There is never an end to the things you're uncovering when you read and there is no end to the drama and fights that occur. The author also is great at keeping key details in until the last minute and you're consistently on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what he and the characters mean. I will continue reading the series until there are no more secrets which I don't think will be anytime soon.
This book, the 7th in the Out of the Box series, seemed to have a higher level of energy in it - breathing new life into the series. The dialogue was snarkier, sassier, more cynical, and more fun than I expected. Of course the action was pretty hot too - sizzling at times. As I read this book, it was like watching an animated comic book in my mind, complete with appropriate visual and sound effects. If you've seen the Batman TV series from the '60s, you'll know what I mean.
Overall, I'd have to say this was a fun read! Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I love this series, and to read the many reasons just look back on all my other reviews. One I haven't mentioned is the lack of foul language. Yes, there's occasionally a curse word, and it doesn't bother me as my mouth seems to use more than it's fair share, but the word play comes off better because the curse words are not missed. Next, no grimy sex scenes. All too many writers fill up pages with unneeded, gratuitous, not written well sex scenes, but not here. Thank you, Robert Crane for being a kick-ass author!
As always, you start with the first page before you realize you haven’t put the book down yet. It was a nice change of pace from the previous books. I’m not sure why. Perhaps it’s the focus on L.A. as the setting. Can’t quite put my finger on it.
In any case, if you’ve been reading the Out of the Box series, you will be glad it’s still going in this one.
Sienna and Kat, classic! Beauty and the Beast, Hollywood style! Secrets are revealed, lessons are learned! Once again, Humanity wins!
I love this series! The only thing stopping me from giving it a 5 is the horrific editing! Too many times I find myself mentally correcting the grammar, reassessing the syntax! Come on Crane! You've got a great storyline, make it easier on your readers! We might become fans of we didn't have to work so hard to read your work!
Sienna is in Hollywood helping the one person on earth she thought she would never help. Threats, bombs and an election all happening at the same time, leaves Sienna in a very complicated situation
Kept me from sleeping.,.....',........very good read can't wait for next book!.....................................nine words are contained in reviewing this. I need next book
Sienna Nealon is evolving, she is constantly struggling with her power and interpersonal relationships, however she is starting to make a break through.
A psychopath targets Kat in a plot to wreak havoc publicly & Sienna is called in to help. Protecting Kat proves difficult when she continues her public reality TV show resulting in public attacks & mass deaths.
I have read all the previous Sienna books and have really enjoyed each and every one. I look forward to the others along with everything else Robert J. Crane has written. I don't even recall a single typo. Some writers definitely need better proofreaders.
I was losing my interest in this series but this one pulled me back. More creative and intriguing. Great twist at the end partially ruined by pettiness. I’ll read at least 2 more!
Wow the president is another douche who uses people like they’re tools. How freaking annoying that she helped him win by doing something they’d throw her under the bus for usually. I feel for sienna and scott they were so great together.
This book had plenty of surprises and bad guys. Redbeard did a lot of killing and was definitely crazy. Sienna was really trying to make positive changes.
Another great instalment in this series. Not sure what to say by this point. Still enjoying the books. This was a great story. I got totally absorbed in it.
Well what can I say, this is yet another amazing Sienna and Co. mash up (in the things they end up doing). This whole series has kept me reading and engrossed. Back to the book though, it is full of action and metahuman wrath. Sienna ends up protecting the last person on earth that as an avid reader you would expect her to. This brings back together some of the early 'In the Box' characters aswell as introducing new ones. Set in the busy television industry and its expected celeb events there is a metahuman issue to be resolved. Scot is interesting in this, he is starting to remember things from the period of missing memories which, he doesn't understand. In the end he learns the truth and is far from happy about everything. I don't think this is an issue that will be left in its current state of play and am looking forward to reading more about him and Sienna. In the strange way that she has Sienna is always losing and accumulating friends, often in spectaculer ways. This is no different in this book. It has a well deserved 5 star review for the engaging story, the greatly developed characters and a plot that flows in all the ways it should with the inevitable twist and turns.
Good to be reading once again about the adventures of Sienna Nealon and her meta human squad.
The setting was mostly in L.A. among people playing roles/acting out lives for others. We see Kat is even a reality star...selfish, spoiled, attention whore and so engrossed in the Hollywood scene. Such a far cry from the image of the beloved Kat I once knew!! Didn't respect her character at all!!! Ugh!
The villain this time has the ability to pass through solid surfaces and brings havoc to the city. There is a plan to his madness.
The action scenes were great, as usual. Loved how the squad unite to fight against injustice.
Fast paced book. Can read in a couple of days. Mr. Crane still remains effective in keeping me eager to read and wanting to know more about Sienna. Will there be a change coming in Sienna's life/job situation? Can't wait to find out. Off to read book #8 in this series.
Still highly recommend this series of books and this book in particular. It's a keeper. Well done. Seeing much growth in Sienna and loving how the squad continues to protect others from the unknown. Nice attempt with theme of this book. So relevant for today.
When an author produces as many books as Mr Crane, an ongoing concern is whether or not he can keep the story fresh. I don't know why I worried.
This story seemed to me to have a different feel from Sienna. Less melancholy and insecure.
Added to that, frustrating characters who, quite frankly need at least one good shake or at the very least, a stern talking to, together with a worthy opponent and other such good stuff which I'm not going to talk about because, well, spoilers.
My one comment? Kat’s change seemed very rapid. But then I guess metas are all about speed…
I have to say, I really enjoyed this one. The dilemma Sienna faces all the time – made me think. And I suspect that, despite the opportunities being offered to her, her problems may be about to get worse... and I can't wait to read all about it.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoy this series and am getting used to chapters being told from the viewpoint of different characters. Once again we have an evil meta with a power not seen before. I don't feel his grudge against humanity was fully explored. Also, if metas live a super long time, why hadn't he or someone with his particular gift been dealt with in the past?
Kat is even more vapid than before. Scott is a whiny baby but at least he steps up to the plate when it counts. Sienna will always be a kick-ass heroine and I hope she never changes.
I don't think this was the strongest book in the series but that doesn't keep me from looking forward to the next. Sienna and her crew are going to have to make some tough decisions in the future.
Happy to get my hands on another book from the "Out of the Box" series. As usual with the works of Robert Crane, I could not get enough of this book, reading through the night till sunrise "just one more chapter." Sienna is back to kick more ass and save Kat's. A red-bearded meta is causing trouble in LA, he has a heart full of hate for Kat, and is determined to kill her in public to get his revenge. Sienna has not spoken to Kat since their previous conversation, which was recorded and exposed to the media, worsening Sienna's reputation.
I love this book series!! I loved The Girl in the Box series after the first book and Out of the Box was no different! It did not disappoint!! I would call this a must read for sure! If you haven't read any of Robert Crane's books I really think they are worth checking out!! The story is very original which is extremely hard to say in this genera in general but he really came up with a edge of your seat page turner!! Like I said I love all of them!!!
