10 hrs 44 mins

It’s been five years since Special Agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett first worked together to solve the Tri-State murders, and time has been both harsh and kind. Engaged now, they face the challenge of planning a deeply uncertain future together. Zane is at the pinnacle of his career with one last mystery to solve, while Ty is at sea in a world where he’s no longer the tip of a spear.

There’s just one more hurdle in the way of their happy ever after: a traitor from their inner circle who threatens to burn their world to the ground.

Squeezed between the Vega cartel, an unknown mole, and too many alphabet agencies to count, Ty and Zane must gather all their strength and resources to beat the longest odds they’ve ever faced. To make it out alive, they’ll need help from every friend they’ve got. Even the friends who might betray their trust.

Rating clarification
This is not me being bitchy. I'm just being honest here, so there's no need for anyone to get on my case. Thank you.
Even after posting my review, I'm not entirely sure if my rating reflects how I felt about this final installment. However, what I know is that this book was a disappointment. We can always lament about a rating but it doesn't change the fact that, for the last few books, this series went downhill fast.
Also, I don't want to apologize for a low rating but I'd like to explain why I decided to downgrade to two stars.

A)
Crash & Burn isn't good enough to upgrade to three stars. Yet it deserved more than two stars.

Dear Goodreads,

I want half stars. Rather sooner than later.
Thank you.

B)
I gave book #8 Ball & Chain a very generous three-star rating.

Meaning, instead of rounding up, I felt I could justify to downgrade Crash & Burn to two stars.

Ty banged his head against the brick wall, eyes squeezed shut, gritting his teeth through the burn of the entry. "Come on, Garrett," he taunted even as his voice trembled. "That the best you got?"

Oh, and we all knew this would happen, right? Sap alert…

Favorite quotes:

Nick swallowed past the tightness in his throat. "You're playing with lives, you know."
"Yes." Liam grinned, his eyes sparkling. "What was it you used to tell me before missions?"
"You're bringing a chess set to a gunfight."
"Indeed." Liam reached out carefully and dragged a finger down Nick's cheek, then held it up as if he'd wiped something off his face. "And the white knight never left the board without blood all over him. Did he, love?"

It was long minutes before Zane huffed against Ty's hair, a smile pulling at his lips. "Can I
"Do it and die."
"Snookums, then."

Nick popped the handle on his door and drew his gun. "I'm Catholic. I don't pray, I just ask for forgiveness after."

"This shit is getting on my nerves," Kelly finally said. "I liked it better when they showed us a picture, and we went in and killed it."
Nick raised an eyebrow.
"What? It was sort of fun."
"If it was only sort of fun, you were doing it wrong," Liam offered.
"I've decided I like you," Julian said as he passed through the living room to the kitchen.
Liam frowned as if that didn't sit right with him. "It took you this long?"
"I don't make rash decisions."

"You assholes can't even get arrested right."

This cracked me up:

"What the fuck is digital stego…saurus? Ty asked.

Don't throw any rotten tomatoes at me please, but Crash & Burn was yet another proof that the Cut & Run series should have ended after book #6 Stars & Stripes. Either my reading tastes have changed or, quite frankly, the quality of the series went downhill after Stars & Stripes. I think it's the latter.

I felt like I was reading one of my son's comic books. Drama and chaos throughout and in between a couple breathers; just a bit silly and unrealistic. Then again, what else is new, right? This series is kinda over the top and not really realistic. I guess I'm just past the point where I'm willing to overlook certain flaws. I didn't particularly care about the inflated "plot" and dealing with the sap and mush galore didn't boost my mood either. ILYs were thrown around very generously, and don't get me started on the endearments like baby and doll. Also, the talk about trust got kind of old after a while.

I did enjoy a few scenes and their banter/bickering was funny at times. However, the plot was sprinkled with too many emotional outbursts. There was plenty of yelling, shouting, winking, whispering, growling and snarling and, of course, the waterworks did complete the picture of this final adventure. Fans of action might end up pleased with this final installment. It remains the question how realistic everything was, though.

Even though I haven't read Warrior's Cross, something seemed to be obvious: aside from our glorious main couple, Ty and Zane, and the NIA and CIA, every secondary character of the previous books must have joined the merry-go-round in Crash & Burn. I kid you not but I wouldn't have been surprised if a couple Martians had joined the Let's-Go-Hunt-Down-the-Cartel-Baddies party and For-the-Love-of-God-Don't-Stop-Talking-About-the-Burns mess.

Martian-1 to Grady-Garrett: we're about to land in your backyard. Take immediate cover.

No Martians sighted but the I'll live with it. After all, it wasn't my

Favorite part of the entire book:

Anyhoo, let's say farewell to Ty and Zane. In German we say, "Es war schön mit euch." Over the last few years, I've spent many entertaining hours with these two guys and, of course, many secondary characters played a rather big part in contributing to the series' success. Chester with his shovel and wit is one of those supporting characters I will always remember with fondness. It was a boatload of fun and Ty and Zane will always have a special place in my heart but life goes on. We shall let them ride into their well-earned retirement.

So long and take care!

An afterword:
This entire secret-mongering over the last few months got on my nerves. There. I said it.

Can't believe it's over...

Despite all the drama on page and off, this series, with all it's ups and downs will always be unforgettable.

Zane, my forever book husband...you've got my heart always...

REVIEW:

This is a hard review to write. 1) I'm emotional to see this series end. 2) I want to review it as a book, but also as a series finale. 3) Considering the huge amount of pressure this author must've been under, the weight of expectations, it's hard not to say kudos. 4) I want to separate all the off-page nonsense, the minion misbehaviors, the drama, etc. from the book I just read.

I always preface my reviews of the books in this series with: Yes, I am a fan. Zane is my number one book husband. No, I did not love every book along the way. Yes, I was excited to read this one...nothing could have stopped me.

Now...the book.

I loved it.

It was the perfect way to end this series. We got enough Ty & Zane that I didn't grumble like I did with book 8. We got ALL the cast of characters back for their last hurrah's, even if just a glimpse.

It was romantic. It was funny. It was exciting. It was redemptive. It felt appropriately like the end of a journey, but one well worth taking. We had characters redeemed. We lost some characters. We had a wedding (oh please...like that's actually a spoiler? Not even...).

And none of it felt forced or overly gratuitious. It felt like a natural progression to an end (*sob*), and I really need to applaud Abigail Roux for putting it together in a way that was satisfying to the fan reader.

We could probably do an entire course on the impact of the Cut & Run series for m/m romance. But, I think it comes down to Ty & Zane...memorable characters that wiggled their way into our hearts through angst, humor, love. I don't know that I'd tire reading about them...and that's why, of course, the end of the series is so sad. I'll miss them...so so much.

The book itself was not perfect. I have questions about Burns. I have trouble believing Zane's mom's sudden change of heart. I have irritations about the FBI squad suddenly being Zane's version of Sidewinder. And a lot of it was just too easy.

But ultimately...none of that really matters. What matters is that the author took us to the The End of the series in a way that worked...and it was an enjoyable curtain call...a time and opportunity for us to applaud it all.

So thanks...and now off to reread the book...the #bookhangover is not going away.

READER: make sure you go ALL the way through to the end...past the author's notes, the publisher's notes, to the verrrrry end... a little nugget called "Brick & Mortar" awaits you!

5 Stars! - Reread 2025

Simply put, this series reread only served to confirm and solidify the absolute truth that I compare every other MM romance against Ty and Zane (and secondly, to Nick and Kelly)

I stand by my original review. This is my gold standard.

Sorry. Not sorry.

———————
5 NOT ENOUGH STARS!!

Holy. Freakin. Hell.

Warning. I know I'm biased when it comes to this series and these two characters. They were my first loves when I started reading m/m and I've thoroughly basked in and fretted over all their adventures, their wins and their losses. This absolutely was the epic conclusion they, and we, deserved.

So yes, the gas pedal was floored at about the 2% mark and it never let up until the bloody end.

What might have been missing for many in Ball & Chain have no fear. There's barely time to breathe in between the laughs/sexy times/private moments. There's barely time to process the action, the suspense, the twist and turns, and crazy revelations. There's barely time to recover from the fear, the relief and then the fear and disbelief around every corner.

Suffice it to say I loved every single word and I am devastated that this is the end but totally more in love if that's even possible.

Ty + Zane = 4 ever

I’ve never loved any character as much as Ty Grady.
I’ve never been enthralled with another couple as I have been with Ty and Zane.
I have never had an obsession with a series like I have with 'Cut and Run'.
Nothing will ever compare for me. I can't explain it. It just is.
This was...emotional for me.

Lemme try and get through this without the dramatic noises I couldn't contain while reading. Here goes.....

I had no doubt that book nine, 'Crash and Burn', (yayyyy, what a sublime title!) would be epic for me.
I expected 110 percent satisfaction.
I got it.
I was still running strong on my high from 'Ball and Chain'. I was holding my breath for one single word in book eight and was holding it again waiting for two words this time. They came and they came in legendary Ty & Zane style.

From ink to orchids and peace to war, I relished every word. I tried to linger and slow my roll…I wanted it to last forever. Then I found myself barreling out of control to the finish line. It was exhilarating.

Sidewinder mania.
If you don’t got it (what is wrong with you??) you might haz some issues with this book becuz the whole team is back and stay tight from start to finish. That’s one of the many things that I adore about the guys.
They are solid. They are family. No family is perfect.
Their exterior might fracture and they bitch and moan more than a cheerleading squad during syncing menses, but they live and die for each other.
A couple of books back into the series it became clear it was no longer just about Grady and Garrett. They slowly infiltrated the pages and took more and more control. I know not everyone was a fan, but I freaking loved it!
Sooo, there was no shortage of the brothers AND Cross made a brief manifestation as well. Tearful scenes with family tugged on my heartstrings. It was like a bloody family reunion and I’m beyond thrilled that all of the loose ends were tied up.
It took off like a speeding bullet and never lost any velocity. The plot was sticky, sweet and layered.
It was sappy.
It was frantic.
It was sexy.
It was scary.
It was mushy and gushy.
It was sarcastic.
It was overwhelming.
It was everything I dreamed it would be.

I nearly broke my highlighter from overuse and would love nothing more than to quote my favorite one-liners. Alas, I will not spoil.
I'm flying high and plan on keeping my head up in these blissful clouds for awhile.
I'm not shedding tears over farewells or goodbye's, for I know it's not over. It can't be.
Ty and Zane will live on and I'm wishing on my lucky star that we will catch a glimpse of their honeymoon in the next Sidewinder book. Dare I hope that they take a tropical *gasp* vacation?

Jiminy cricket, it can't be over? It simply can't.

Thank you for sharing your boys with me.
I shall always cherish them.

**FOOD FOR THOUGHT**
I came across this question/response for B&C and LOVED it. Makes total sense to me. I never had any issues with B&C in the first place, thought it was bloody brilliant. BUT...if you were in the opposite corner when it came to B&C, check this out. It's worth reading!

No punches pulled in the final book of the Cut & Run series!
"I want you with me. 'Til the end. That may be selfish, too, but I don't care."

"The world out there is burning, Ty."

Ty ran his finger down Zane's cheek, nodding. "But we were born in a kiln."

Zane grinned. "I'm game."

"I think the word you're looking for there is prey," Ty growled before smashing their mouths together.
I mean, let's face it... Ty and Zane have a tendency to attract explosions... How could this series NOT go out with a bang?

There were so many twists, turns, and absolute shockers in this book. I might need a bit of therapy.

We learned things that put the rest of the series into an entirely new perspective. I can't wait to re-read the series with the revelations from this book. I'm telling you... The twists in Crash & Burn reveal plots that have been in motion since the very fist Cut & Run book.

I laughed,
I cried real tears,
The suspense left me short of breath!

This was practically an immersive experience.
I am a little blown away...

Any time I'm faced with the conclusion of a series, it's a bittersweet experience. I don't want to let these characters go, but I'm grateful that I was able to get to know them. Of course this isn't really the end, is it? I mean we still have the Sidewinder books and who knows what else Abigail Roux might surprise us with. We've had cross-overs and spin-offs and little short stories...

But I digress...
We're here to talk about THIS book and THIS moment, yes?

ZANE GARRETT
Finding their mole was Zane's final mission, and it was eating him alive. The mole who'd been spying on them for god knew how long. The mole whose connections and motivations were still mysteries to them. The mole who'd damn near gotten them killed in New Orleans. The mole who'd caused Richard Burns to be murdered.
Zane took over the role of acting Director of the FBI's Baltimore field office after Director Burns was killed in Ball & Chain. Even though significantly fewer bullets fly at a man practically trapped behind a desk, Zane has never forgotten the danger he faces.

The cartel is still after him...
There is a mole in the FBI...
And he's not a single step closer to solving either problem...

TY GRADY
"...I didn't think we'd live long enough to be here. And something about to day feels like borrowed time."

Zane's brow furrowed, and he took a tiny step closer. "Then let's take that time and ride it hard and put it up wet, baby."

Ty laughed, closed his eyes, and nodded. "I love you."
Ty has been playing Mr. Fix-it around the row-home and renovating what will one day be the book store he'll run with his future husband.
But Zane has to retire first,
he has to deal with the mole and the cartel before that can happen...
Oh, and they have to actually get married...

Who seriously thought that a man like Ty could retire?
When the shit hits the fan, Zane is going to need all the help he can get.
Not just his trusted partner, Ty, but everyone else who has ever had his back...

CAMEO APPERANCES
"This shit is getting on my nerves," Kelly finally said. "I liked it better when they showed us a picture, and we went in and killed it."

Nick raised an eyebrow.

"What? It was sort of fun."

"If it was only sort of fun, you were doing it wrong," Liam offered.

"I've decided I like you," Julian said as he passed through the living room to the kitchen.

Liam frowned as if that didn't sit right with him. "It took you this long?"

"I don't make rash decisions."
What would a finale be without a star-studded look back on all the people who love you... or hate you... or have tried to kill you... or all of the above?

Seriously, I can only think of three or four characters in the entire Cut & Run Universe who didn't show up in this book. And I'm going to warn you right now... Not everyone is going to make it out of this alive.

Friends turn against each other,
Buildings explode,
FBI, CIA, NIA,
Car chases,
Espionage,
Bullets fly,
Assassins,
Betrayal,
Cartels,
Lies...

and Ty and Zane are caught in the middle of this edge-of-your-seat-hold-your-breath-I-can't-believe-what-just-happened-holy-fuck-thrill-ride.

Side Note: Chester Motherfucking Grady had like two lines in this whole book, and he is now officially one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. I know I've mentioned in previous reviews that Abigail Roux has an amazing talent for writing intriguing secondary and tertiary characters... But man... Chester Grady. Love that old man! He really shines :)

I'm not afraid to pick favorites... I'm actually quite eager to share my various infatuations when it comes to books. I can stand before you and say that the Cut & Run series is one that I could re-read over and over and over again and never get tired of it. If I were stranded on an island and could only bring one series of books with me to pass the time - it would be the Cut & Run series. I wouldn't even hesitate. It is that fucking brilliant.

This book is a wonderful end to an amazing series. It took every thing I love about Cut & Run - The Action, intrigue, romance, sex, suspense, honor, humor, intelligence, and fantastic dialogue - and turned it up to eleven.

Well fucking done.

I'd also like to point out that Abigail Roux is really fucking sweet to her fans - she completely understands our love of the Cut & Run universe and has several badass Tumblr pages you should check out if you ever have series withdrawals:

I find the announcement by the publisher insulting to the loyal readers/reviewers of this series. Not releasing ARCs to blogs/reviewers that have supported this series and author from the start is one thing but to withhold a title, cover and blurb until release day is absurd. You don't find the Big Six publishing companies pulling gimmicks like this. It's reeks a ridiculous taunt as opposed to "surprise release" to me.

What a phenomenal ending to a phenomenal series.

I can’t really articulate what I'm feeling right now, but I’ll just say I loved EVERYTHING about this final instalment of Ty and Zane’s amazing journey.

I cried, I laughed, I swooned, I cringed, I panicked, and then I did it all again, over and over, until the final words on the last page had set in.

It was absolutely perfect.

Read #2: March 2025

Are we all collectively in shock when we think about how it’s been TEN YEARS (this week) since this final Ty and Zane book came out??!?! It feels like a second ago, honestly. Guys, we’re all getting so old now!!!! Wah!

But I digress…

Crash & Burn remains the best series finale I’ve ever read in a beloved long-running book series. I could sit here and (once again) gush over all the things I love about this story and these characters and how intensely it all ended, but I’ll keep it really simple…

Ty and Zane are the best book couple I have ever read and their story (as well as the story of their Sidewinder friends) is still, to this day, unmatched in my reader-obsessed heart and mind.

There simply isn’t a book couple OR series I love more than this one and that will likely remain true for the remainder of my days.

Period. No arguments. Just facts.

And I can’t wait to do it all again in a couple more years.

It really pains me to give this book only 2 stars, considering how much I love Ty and Zane and how much I loved most of their books. Unfortunately, while this was a bit better than Ball & Chain, it wasn't as good as the rest of the books in the series and it left me with a bad taste. The main problem? The same as the previous book: once again Ty and Zane feel like guest stars or supporting characters in a book that was supposed to be about them, that was supposed to give the series and their story closure. While fortunately the author didn't insist with pushing Kelly&Nick's relationship onto Ty and Zane's fans as she did in the previous book, she kept at it with Nick. Once again he was front and center, way more than Ty and Zane: he was the one with the more action, the more injuries, the one who was the hero, the one with the PTSD etc. I can't help but feeling that he became what Ty once was for the author. Unfortunately, while she might now feel strongly about him, I, as a reader of a series dedicated to Ty and Zane's story, found the use and abuse of Nick in this book to be wrong, annoying, disrespectful towards the readers who wanted to read about the supposed protagonists of this series. I've always liked Nick before, but with her pushing him in my face in the last two books, the author made me almost detest him. Which I'm sad about, because one of the scenes between him and Ty in this book was very touching and I loved it. But after a while I couldn't take it anymore of Nick here and Nick there while many of Ty and Zane's scenes happened off page.

I did love the moments between Ty and Zane: their relationship is now solid and strong and deep and it's beautiful to see them work together, both on their relationship and in the field.
I also loved to see characters that appeared from the previous books and it was nice to have the Sidewinder guys working all together again. I just wish the secondary characters had remained that, instead of taking over the story.

I will always be grateful to Abigail Roux (and Madeleine Urban) for this series, which was one of the first I read when I entered the world of m/m books. Ty and Zane will always be one of my favorite book couples ever. But I wish, I really wish, that Abigail Roux would (could?) have sticked with them for a little longer before moving on to another character (Nick) and another couple (Nick and Kelly). It's evident from the last two books that while she surely cares about Ty and Zane, it's Nick that is front and center in her mind now. I wish this hadn't ruined the end of a series that was so great untill that point.

If you haven't already noticed by name, I LOVE Ty & Zane. They were my first favourite m/m couple, so they are very dear to my heart. Knowing this was going to be the last book, had me wanting to jump right into this and wanting to stay away. I will admit I was a little scared I wouldn't like the final installment, considering the previous book was not my favourite. But I am so glad to say that that wasn't the case. I loved it!

As soon as I began the book, I couldn't help but smile. I had missed my Ty &Zane so damned much! It started off pretty darn sweet and über romantic, which made me completely melt. I just can't get enough of Ty and The story line in this one was actually an interesting one to me. Sure it was a bit crazy and over the top, which happens a lot in this series, but it was able to hold my attention. I didn't want to put the book down, but I had to slow myself down in order to savour this last book. It was really awesome seeing the entire cast of characters make an appearance. There was some great action in this one which I totally loved.

This book had a bit of everything it seemed. There was some very emotional moments that hurt my heart. I was very worried that this last book wouldn't be a Ty & Zane story and that Nick & Kelly would steal the show somehow like in the previous book. While Nick and Kelly show up, it was still very much Ty and Zane's book, something I was tremendously happy about. I didn't know what I was going to get in this last book, but I can say I was very happy with it. It was very bittersweet for me. I didn't want it to end at all but was very happy with the ending they got. I will always love my beautiful Ty & Zane and will definitely be re-reading this series again, and again. If you have yet to check out this series than you need to do it...now!

5 i'm gonna miss these dorks stars

"Ty, some roads to love aren't easy, and I've never been more thankful for being forced to fight for something. I started this journey with a partner I hated, and a man in the mirror I hated even more. The road took me from the streets of New York to the mountaintops of West Virginia, from the place I was born to the place I found a home. It forced me to let go of my past and face my future. And I had to be made blind before I could see. I promise to love you until I die."
"I promise to never leave you alone in the dark."

currently tired bc it's only the third day of my fall semester and it's already stressful af so i just gotta say Ty and Zane have been my escape the past few days and i couldn't be more grateful to have come across these two and being able to read their story. 🥺 so much shit has happened to them within these nine books and i swear, they really couldn't catch a break but i love them for staying by each other's side and fighting for their love - no matter what came their way. i genuinely have so much love and adoration for them. <3

OK BUT .

I should have known Ty and Zane would go out with a bang.

This series. There really are no words. Everything about it was perfect. I feel like Ty and Zane are a part of my life.

I waited so long to read this series. So long.

I was really missing out. But I am glad I waited until all of the books were out to read it.

I don't read long books. I don't read multiple books about the same couple. I certainly don't read nine books about the same couple.

This series was worth breaking every last one of my rules for.

All I can say to anyone on the fence....

I promise you won't regret it.

✅ Ty and Zane
✅ Romance
✅ Sidewinder together again
✅ Julian, Kelly, and Nick seem to have regained their senses and their original personality (you know what I mean if you read Cross & Crown)
✅ Julian and Preston are there
✅ Chester freaking Grady and his shovel stealing the show even though he has about 3 lines in the whole book.
✅ Pace and plot
✅ Action
✅ Lies, betrayals, double-crossing
❗️❗️ Trigger warnings: car chase, deaths, stabbing, shootings, explosions, drug cartel, blood, torture (off page), abduction

Second read: I LOVE THEM ALL SO MUCH. 😭😭 ❤️❤️❤️

It was still as good and addictive as the first time.
This is one epic and intense finale. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, even though I remembered most of it.

_______________________

Oh boy.

I am happy that Ty and Zane will finally have some time to breathe and enjoy their life together, but I am sad to say goodbye, and I will miss them. I will keep this review relatively short, as I have already expressed my love for Ty and Zane numerous times in my reviews of the previous books.

I liked the first book of the series and Ty and Zane, but I never thought I would fall in love so hard. They made their way into my heart, and I am happy to know I will be able to reread this series in a few months or years, or whenever I miss them too much. I also have the last Sidewinder spinoff book to read, so hopefully, I will see a little more of them.

Zane and Ty are back in Baltimore after Deuce’s wedding, and they are trying to remain inconspicuous and live a life where they are not shot at every other day. It’s going well so far, but they can’t forget the fact that they are still not sure who killed Richard Burns and why, there is still a mole in Zane’s team, and the cartel is also after him and determined to ruin him. So they need to investigate and find the mole while pretending to be oblivious and chill at home.

If there was one thing Ty and Zane knew how to do, it was abuse each other for fun.

Ty tried to retire and live a quiet life, and Zane tried to be a good Supervisor and remain off the field, but they both lamentably failed. After the big showdown from this book, though, I think both he and Zane realized that they are getting older, and maybe non-stop shootings and car chases are not ideal for them. I love that the author found a way for them to have a somewhat quiet life, with a side of mystery and action too, because we know that they wouldn’t have been able to have their HEA without some action every now and then.

“I love you, Tyler Grady,” he said. “And I’m too stubborn to let you die without me.”

There is so much happening in this book, and I am not only talking about action. While there is a ton of shooting, explosions, and fighting, there are also a lot of lies, scheming, double-crossing, and betrayals. It hurt to see Ty and Zane constantly being let down by people they trusted, and realizing that some of their closest friends and role models were not who they thought they were.

It was nice to, once again, see Team Sidewinder work together, and the author even brought Julian and Preston into the fray. Still, even though everyone was reunited for this final book, it remained Ty and Zane’s conclusion. It didn’t feel like they were relegated to the background at times like it did in Ball & Chain. It was all about making sure they could enjoy a safer and quieter life once this was all over.

❗️❗️ Take the time to read the author’s notes in a book! It is worth it because there are some gems hidden in there every once in a while. In this case, a secret epilogue!!!

Thank you, A Reader Obsessed, for pushing me toward this series. I will forever be grateful for it. 🥲

Oorhah.

Really enjoyed this one. Never a dull moment with these two. Sad to see the end of them. They have been my constant companions now for a few weeks ...

“I'll always find you, Zane”

I see some reviewers bemoaned the fact that there were too many side characters involved and not enough Ty and Zane. Not me. I loved meeting them. I especially loved Nick - it's the Irish in me!

“And the white knight never left the board without blood all over him.”

"Te amo."

TY GRADY

Sigh. I loved both of these guys but Ty's vulnerability got to me every time.

ZANE GARRETT

Title should be TRASH & TREASURE. This book is trashy yet I will treasure the TyZane memories.

THIS BOOK GOT TO BE WORTH THE TORTURE

I have the highest regard for the finale. No more repeat of book 8 please. More Ty and Zane; Less Kelly and lesser Nick.

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*I Miss Ty Already*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

Re-read: 01.10.2021
Ty is everything. He is the best character ever created. I love him and I miss him even though I just finished his series. Nine books just weren't enough. I love Zane too, I do, but nothing compares to my love for Ty. He owns me. That said, I'm still a bit disappointed that this was the end of the series. And lets not start on the ending of this book; it was so rushed. I also ended up skimming, especially Nick's POVs. I just wasn't interested in Nick. Just Ty. Ty and Zane. Mostly Ty. I love Ty.

First read review:
Since I was so disappointed with the last two books in the series, I'm not shocked or overly surprised that I didn't like this one all that much. I felt like Nick and Liam stole the show from the main characters Ty and Zane. I wanted this series to go out with a bang, and I just felt...nothing. Sure, the book had its moments, but in the end, after nine books, I'm very glad I'm done with it since it felt like Nick was pushed down my throat.
“And I had to be made blind before I could see.”

I wouldn't mind reading another book, though, if it focuses only on Ty and Zane, and only them. Because, the more Ty, the better. Let just say that I needed something more from this book. It was a good goodbye to the couple and I was not ready to say goodbye to Ty. Not like that, at least. I felt like there should have been something more here... Overall,I wanted more. What more, I have no idea. Perhaps I just wanted more Ty...
“I'll always find you, Zane”

Quick basic facts:

A great series deserves a great ending. I feel like I got that. I was satisfied. Mostly.

The only critique I have about it is that it tried to pull the heart strings a little too often. I mean, imagine that your whole family is brought to granny's bedside to say your final goodbyes. You have a tearful moment and she says that's she loves you and is proud of you. You're sad - devastated. She was the nice gran who made pies and stuff.

Then, she gets better. Hooray!

A month later, she takes a bad turn and you go back to the bedside and do the whole thing again. It's not quite as tearful this time, but still touching and sad.

She gets better again. Well, that's... good.

A month later, again. You are called to the bedside. You really had shit to do and it's getting expensive to travel to granny's bedside each month. The tearful goodbye isn't so tearful, but you don't want to regret anything so you go.
She gets better again. Huh. What's up with granny? Is she going to keep escaping death? Did she make a deal with the devil?

A month later, you get the call. You're expecting it. You tell those motherfuckers to tell granny that you'll see her in hell.

That's what happened in this book. Too many tearful, meaningful goodbyes and touching moments. It lost the magic after the first couple.

So, goodbye Ty and Zane. I love you both. I truly enjoyed my time with you. See you in hell.

I'm not spoiling a single, bloody thing .... only that if you ever want to immerse yourself in a series then pick this one. You won't regret it, promise. Ty and Zane are indeed precious to me, beyond precious really, because they were partly responsible as to why the m/m genre owns my soul. Of course I'm sad that this is it, but wouldn't have missed this turbulent ride for anything, and I know they'll always be there for me to reread again and again whenever I want to. And you never know, maybe one day ... one fine and precious day, Abigail might just return us back to them with a little snippet or something? ;) I will be always looking and hoping for that day......

P.S. Read on after all the acknowledgements and credits and information, read on after the story because that's probably what I loved the most about this book, loved the most about Ty and Zane.

UPDATE 6/10/16: IM SOBBING. I JUST FINISHED THIS BOOK. LIKE JUST NOW. I WAS TOO TERRIFIED TO READ THIS. I DONT WANT THIS TO END. I HOPE ABIGAIL ROUX WOULD RELEASE NOVELLAS ABOUT TY AND ZANE'S LIFE AFTER IT ALL ENDED. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL OF THEM. IM BAWLING MY EYES OUT RIGHT NOW. I NEED TO BE SEDATED.

I LITERALLY READ THIS SO FUCKING SLOWLY. THIS BOOK WAS AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER. I CAN NOT EVEN.

Although, I have to admit. There are things that I need to know...

Will they get married again?
What happens to the Sidewinder?
What happened to Julian Cross?

There's a lot of things that didn't add up. And I really want to know what happens. There are things that are left unsaid.

I feel like the ending is rushed. It's not enough. I do hope Abigail Roux would make an epilogue novella. PLS. IT. IS. NOT. ENOUGH.

UPDATE 6/7/16: YOU GUYS. I HAD THE BOOK ALREADY SINCE IT CAME OUT BUT I DONT HAVE ENOUGH COURAGE TO READ IT. BUT NOW... I STARTED TO READ IT. MY EMOTIONAL ASS CRIED WHEN I READ THE FIRST PAGE. WILL BE POSTING STUFF LIKE THIS U GUYS IM CRYING.

Reread September 2016

Original review:
This is a difficult review to write. For those who have been invested in this couple from the beginning, if you're like me, you feel like they're a part of you when you're reading their books. And, as a result, I'm sure many of us, the readers, have already decided how WE want the story to end. So of course some of us will be disappointed because WE didn't get exactly what we wanted. It's not like standalones where we live the couple for the first time as the book flows. No - this is a couple we've been with for years and have a strong connection with.

Does that mean the story didn't end how I personally would've wanted - yes, there were some things I would've wanted. But it's not about me. Or you. It's about Roux and her vision for Ty and Zane. So I told myself to read it in that context, and it was amazing!

I found myself absolutely LOVING/ADORING the first half. I got back what I lost a bit in B&C. I got Ty and Zane back. I got more of the relationship building and banter between them that made me fall in love in the first place.

The second half was much more action-filled, but I honestly expected that. There were so many story lines that needed wrapping up. The de la Vega cartel, the mole, the Liam/Nick angle. As the percentage on my Kindle was getting closer and closer to 100, I was panicking. There was so much action and so little time left for me to get my power ending!!

Was the action just as far-fetched as before? Yes - and if you're looking for a by-the-book government agency mystery, you've been reading the wrong series from the beginning. So, also, take it in that context. Of course it was unrealistic, but no less angsty and fun to see unfold.

I was a little disappointed that , but that didn't really bother me too much.

What I find a little confusing is how

I love quotes, and here are some of my favs: (I'll spoiler tag the ones as appropriate)

"If he was going to lose a chunk of himself in a sex-related accident, he definitely didn't want to watch."

"one of Ty's T-shirts, a gray one with stylized pink writing that read "The 3rd rule of fight club is have fun and try your best."

"I told him about the black market orchid thing when I first realized...well, that I was in love with you."

"And I had to be made blind before I could see."

"I just need you to know...I...I hate baseball."
"You shut your whore mouth!"

Bottom line, this is a couple that will stick with me forever, there will be multiple rereads, as there have already been, and this series is amazing.

Regardless if Roux wrapped it up how you wanted her to, this is a 5-star series, and I am sad that this will be the final Ty/Zane-centered book. I am sad, and the boys will always be in my heart.

P.S. Just found out there's a little snippet at the very end that I missed the first time. Go all the way to then end!

I LOVED IT!!!!! I love Ty and Zane (especially Zane) and this was a perfect send off for my boys.

It was HAWT.

It was sweet.

“Te amo."
"Je t'aime, mon chéri,
" Ty said brokenly.

It had lots of action. I love it when Zane is a badass, kicking ass and taking names. And lots of shit blows up.

(Have I mentioned how much I love it when shit blows up?)

Cut & Run was my first MM book and this series has a special place in my heart. I'm gonna miss having new adventures with Ty and Zane but I'm so happy with this ending.

Re-read 1st May - 3rd May 2018

I enjoyed this on the re-read, this has been a fabulous series and I absolutely love Ty & Zane.

Original review.

The end to a fantastic and unforgettable series.

I can't actually believe this is the end, the last time we'll read about Ty and Zane, they've been one of my reading highs for the last seven years and I'm sorry to see them go.
What can I say, I've loved this series and yes Ball & Chain wasn't quite the book I'd hoped for, just too much Nick and Kelly, too much plot and not enough humour and none of Ty's T.Shirts, yes I did complain about the lack of T.Shirts so I'm glad to see they're back, 'The 3rd rule of fight club is have fun and try your best' and one with 'a picture of a piñata that said, I'd hit that' I love Ty's shirts and like the books it's difficult to pick my favourite, maybe the scarecrow with 'Outstanding in his field' I don't know there's been so many.
My favourite book of the series I think has to be 'Armed & Dangerous' but it has some strong competition, it's a difficult call to make since this series has been so good especially early on, one thing keep reading right to the end, past the authors notes, acknowledgments and other books otherwise you'll miss the last bit.
While this book gives us Ty and Zane plus all the other crazy characters they class as family I have to say that since Madeleine Urban left this writing duo the focus has slowly shifted more towards the sidewinders, Nick in particular and that's not a good thing in my opinion at first I assumed it was just to introduce the sidewinders spin-offs but it's more than that the last few books have had too much Nick and not enough Ty and Zane and Ty and Zane are the main reason I read these books.
All the characters are back including one of my favourites so I was more than happy and I loved it when they're planning their wedding and Ty asks "Does Chester get to put a corsage on his shovel?"
Crash & Burn.....where do I start, if they're to get their HEA Ty and Zane need to uncover the identity of the mole, a traitor from their inner circle someone they trust but while they're on this journey of discovery they'll uncover secrets, betrayal, lies plus the meaning of true friendship.
This book isn't perfect the first love scene didn't feel quite right and I have questions about characters and medication but it's the last in the series so I'm saying goodbye Ty and Zane I'm going to miss you.

ah! art precedes promotional marketing after all. nice!

I imagine if I were an author and a reviewer used the horrible, awful, dreaded "meh" in reviewing my work I would want to throw myself off a bridge and take the reviewer with me. On second thought, just throw the reviewer off the bridge. "Meh", well fuck you!
Horrible, effective, little 3 letter word that says so much.

Crash & Burn was an amazing ending to the amazing Cut & Run series that brought much pleasure to thousands of readers,

I loved much of the series, I hated some and I never once had a " meh" moment and for that I am very grateful to the author(s). This extraordinary ride was forever reminding me that I was alive.

Art at it's best.

I don't really know what to say. This is the end of the series. The final book. I really wasn't ready for it and I'm really sad that this is the end of the series. It's been a long, painful journey and now it's over. It's just so hard to believe.

It feels like I've been waiting years for this book when it's really only been a year (which is still a long time!). Was it worth the wait? For me, yes. It's not exactly what I was expecting, but it kept me gripped and I couldn't put it down. I just couldn't. I needed to know what would happen next and I needed to get some happiness with all the shit going on. This book made me feel. It made me sort of emotional and it made me want more and more. I didn't want it to end and at the same time, I did want it to end. Some pretty heavy stuff went on and I honestly didn't know how things would all end.

I'm so glad I discovered this series back when I started reading m/m in 2012. It's been amazing to follow Ty and Zane and I've loved every minute of it. Sure there have been times I've wanted to scream at one of them. But I love them and I love their story.

Whatever kept them both happy.

The little bit at the very end made me so happy. It was perfect and light and it made me happy because everything had been so powerful up to that. I was glad it was there, though I almost missed it. So make sure you go to the very end people. And now I'm going to have to figure out what I'll do without this series. Hopefully we'll see them a lot in Nick and Kelly's series.

I read this yesterday and last night after I received notice it was available for downloading. CRASH AND BURN is a freaking mess and a half story wise and with respect to Zane and Ty, who once again felt like guest stars in the finale of THEIR series, the title is sadly very apt. As I mentioned in a comment to another reader's review, this series ran and ran well for a while on the formula of mystery/adventure combined with sex/romance. In CRASH AND BURN, however, the mystery/adventure component pulled way too much focus from the sex/romance, which had always been more appealing to me in the CUT AND RUN books. Plus, the mystery/adventure was so convoluted and absurd amounting to nothing more than retconning all the mentors Zane and Ty had in their law enforcement careers into psychotic puppeteers. Consequently, our smart heroes apparently were nothing more than marionettes all the time we've known them. Zane and Ty's sex and romantic life suffered as a result of this mystery/adventure taking up too many pages along with the author unnecessarily bringing back way too many characters - Nick in particular - to take part of this not-so-great mystery/adventure in CRASH AND BURN. This series was my gateway into the M/M genre and for a time, it set the bar for all the M/M books I read. It just saddens me how the quality of the CUT AND RUN series deteriorated over time and how I now in retrospect wish the books ended earlier when the stories and characters were still truly at their best. Nonetheless, it's been nice knowing these guys. Zane and Ty, you'll be missed. But your stories in the last few books of your series? Not so much.

A WONDERFUL WAY TO END THE SERIES.

At last, a happy ever after for our favorite badass motherfather agents that I fell in love with for the past couple of years. All I can say, that this was well done. I mostly liked everything happened in the book including the twists, revelations, and resolutions. There is a point though that the bickering and quarreling of the characters were tiring and quite repetitive. But overall, I COULD NOT ASK FOR MORE.

Ty & Zane. I will miss these amazing men. I loved all the parts they have in this book. And my pillow that I've been hugging tight while re-reading the entire series is a witness to that. XD

Cut & Run was the 2nd M/M Romance book I've ever read. Ty & Zane are one of those characters that I’ll probably never forget. These two (and all the other M/M Romance heroes I've read) are the ones that make me believe that I can have my happily ever after with the person that I want . I would like to say thank you to Ms. Abigail Roux, Ms. Madeleine Urban, and to the people behind the series for giving Ty & Zane to us. They’ll always be in my heart & soul. :D

5 STARS.
(Hope I can read about these boys again!)

By the way, please read up to the end of the book because there a little bonus for us readers there! Happy reading!

Another thing, if you want more of Ty & Zane and the rest of the Cut & Run universe, go to this and bookmark it!

Re-Read, 2024

Not to beat this to death but, I just kept reading and didn’t stop to review, so I’m here almost two months later trying to gather my thoughts.

This book was scary, scary, scary even knowing how it goes. The level of betrayal is such a crush, EVERY TIME. I was so anxious, again, while reading.

My first read, this was the last book. I guess there was something sort of comforting knowing there was still one more book to come. One more book that hopefully will fix all that is still a little broken. But, this is still really the last book for Ty & Zane and I think I still feel good with it. I love them with all I am and am still just so happy for where they end up. What a fucking ride.
*******
It’s over isn’t it? I am having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around that revelation. I know all good things must come to an end but…why?

This will be short and sweet. If you love this series as much as I do you really don’t need a lengthy review, you just need to know that I loved it.

This series will forever be one my most favorite ever. Ever.

Although I am greedy and would take more, want more and never would tire of these books, I will admit I feel completely satisfied with the end. The final book in the Cut & Run series incorporated everything that made this series brilliant. It was funny, exciting, shocking, emotional, romantic, sexy and at times devastating. I got what I needed and feel the boys got what they needed. Ty and Zane will forever be one of the best couples, ever.

I am seriously so sad it is over but so very happy with the outcome.

Read.

5 STARS

“If you can't kill it, hire it, right?”

Another blockbuster hit for Ty & Zane and the entire Sidewinder crew. Our boys were in rare form once again putting it all on the line to finally put an end to this vendetta and yes, to save their own skins.

To save time, here is the author’s opening synopsis:

I know there were some mixed reviews for this book, but honestly, I can’t see why. Unless of course they just didn't like some of the things that happened. But good and bad, that is life. And even our boys had to find a way to live with the unpleasant realities that were uncovered in this book.

“If there was one thing Ty and Zane knew how to do, it was abuse each other for fun.”

This one had me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails to the quick. There were some serious trust issues going on here… Lifelong friendships on the line. No one knowing who to trust. And the constant threat of death for trusting the wrong man.

There was also some incredible loyalty and sacrifice going on as well. These boys are true Marines… Semper fideles to the bitter end. No questions asked, no risk too great.

“You're not a thing in the dark," Kelly said under his breath.
"No." Nick clutched his fingers tighter. "But I can be."
Kelly stared at him for a long time, nodding, blue-gray eyes turning to quartz granite. "Then we'll be things in the dark together.”

And we got to know our boys just a little bit better. Owen and Digger, Nick and Kelly. Ty and now Zane too. The Sidewinder was a Force Recon to reckon with! Even Liam Bell… yes the notorious NIA agent who is still almost impossible to trust.

“Can I start calling you hubby?”
“Do it and die.”
“Snookums, then.”

I really loved all of the action in this book. It was a perfect way to end the series. Which I will miss terribly. I really want to thank Abigail Roux for keeping the series going so long. I have completely fallen in love with Ty and Zane, and all of the supporting characters as well. It was my first glimpse into the M/M genre, and I have to say I’m completely hooked.

Zane Garrett

“Ty…. Some roads to love aren’t easy, and I’ve never been more thankful for being forced to fight for something. I started this journey with a partner I hated, a man in the mirror I hated even more. The road took me from the streets of New York to the mountaintops of West Virginia, from the place I was born to the place I found a home. It forced me to let go of my past and face my future. AndI had to be made blind before I could see.”

Ty Grady

“I promise to never leave you alone in the dark.”

I cannot recommend these books enough. The writing is fabulous, the dialogue even better and the hot and sweaty sex… the best. I will cherish this series right along with all of my favorites!!! Now I must go cry in my coffee that the series has ended. But I’m happy with the where she left them…

I liked this read and as a final book for Ty & Zane I was pretty happy with it.

I will honestly say that I thought the previous book was a mess. This story somewhat fixed those plot holes and I found this storyline worked a lot more for me. We still had a lot of Sidewinder but it wasn't all about Nick and Kelly this time. This was firmly a Ty&Zane story which is all I want of any Cut & Run book. Ty & Zane are actually pretty awesome here.

About the story. There's a lot of location jumping and backtracking and for an experienced military team and operatives I question more than a few moments that happened but it kept the story moving so I went with it. All in all though great ending to the series. A satisfying ending for me.

ETA: Okay, I just found out from Susan's review that there's an epilogue tagged on the end of the read called Brick & Mortar. It's after all the author comments. I read those but no further not expecting more. It's a pretty sweet little add-on. Don't miss it!

There is nothing to explain:
Some people like avocado, some don't.

You enjoyed this final sequel to the series, I did not.

My goodbye to Ty and Zane I said in the book 7. All I need now-to forget the last two books as soon as possible. That's actually not a big deal.

If you want to know my thoughts - read clear skie's review. She nailed it.

A very short BR with my GR friend Melanie
Mel, let us do it again, but with another book!
