Highly influenced by the work of Gerald Massey and Godfrey Higgins, Kuhn contended that the Bible derived its origins from other Pagan religions and much of Christian history was pre-extant as Egyptian mythology. He also proposed that the Bible was symbolic and did not depict real events, and argued that the leaders of the church started to misinterpret the bible at the end of the third century. Many authors including Tom Harpur and John G. Jackson were influenced by the works of Kuhn. Harpur even dedicated his best-selling 2004 book, "The Pagan Christ" to Kuhn, calling him "a man of immense learning and even greater courage" and "one of the single greatest geniuses of the twentieth century" [who] "towers above all others of recent memory in intellect and his understanding of the world's religions." Harpur notes that Kuhn gave nearly 2,000 public lectures which were lengthy, detailed and well-attended, but suggests that Kuhn's self-publishing may have resulted in a lack of attention to his work.
If you think the Christian bible is hard to understand this book helps to understand it. All religion is based on celestial allegory. All religion teaches the same thing. When you speak star myth you speak the language of God.
Did he get paid by the word? Lots of repetition but a very interesting premise.
So, we should all go back to worshiping the sun? This book was too esoteric for even me. I was excited to read this but I found it disappointing. I will not be reading anything else by this author.
The most compelling cross-examination of ancient scriptures from Egypt to Greece To Hebrew, Gnostic and finally the Christian tradition. Showing how it is all one story - the story in the incarnation - the dark night of the soul in Earth (death, underworld) and its subsequent evolution to everlasting life and light in Heaven. A must read for any bible scholars! Prepare to lose all notions of the historicity of the bible. It is sacred truth, not literal history these texts expound.
