Seducing the Skeptic

Rate this book
Desperate to save her fellowship, theoretical physicist Janet Mason has 48 hours to build a better thesis when she tumbles into a strange fantasy world with demented birds, farmers shaped like frogs, and one hot, frustrating prince.

Cornered by angry beasts, Prince Keeven is moments away from death when Janet's sudden appearance creates a much-needed distraction. Finally, the gods have smiled upon his quest and sent an angel to fight by his side.

Janet is convinced she's gone insane. But the more time she spends fighting evil with the fascinating Prince, the faster she falls in love with madness.

Then Janet finds a way back, just as Keeven faces his worst enemy. They have one chance to save both worlds, but only if they sacrifice everything they've ever wanted.

Seducing The Skeptic by Kathy Lyons was a complete and total surprise. What I expected was a well written love story. What I got was a young lady stepping into her roommate's closet and ending up in a land of magic, green frog people and spacecraft. Of course Janet and Keeven's story is well written, as always with a Kathy Lyons book. This romp is fast paced and loaded with humor. I loved the characters in Seducing The Skeptic. There is plenty of drama and action that will keep the pages flipping. While I'm normally not a sci-fi/paranormal fan, I did enjoy this book and look forward to reading more from the talented Kathy Lyons in the future. Seducing The Skeptic is book 1 in the Accidental Angels Series, but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I won a copy of this book in a giveaway.

So good! Kathy Lyons is so fantastic & she certainly didn't disappoint. I only hope that she gets a chance to come back to this series at some point in the future.

Shades of Alice in Wonderland and the Chronicles of Narnia! Janet Mason is a frustrated PhD candidate needing an original doctoral thesis for her theorectical physicist resumé. Her professor doesn't accept her idea.
While looking for inspiration at her apartment, she decides to follow her father's example by working with her hands. She needs a hammer to hang up some picture frames, so she looks in her engineer roommate's closet. With a shimmer, she falls through the back of the closet into another world--a world of Queens, Princes, royal families and a Wizard and his enchanted henchmen (poor, abused men who turn into huge troll-like creatures. Also, in this world, women's main job is to birth babies, fathered by Angels or other royals. Janet, labelled an Angel by Keeven, is destined to churn out babies to protect this strange world.
Prince Keeven Gudtundsdor has made an oath to rescue a kidnapped princess held hostage by the evil wizard. In exchange for Janet's help in rescuing the princess, he promises to use his magic stones to send her back to her world.
OK, so we have a quest, a destined-to-be-unrequited romance between Keeven and Janet, and bags of little sharp-toothed carnivores.
Like the virtual games that Janet and her roommate used to play, Janet now has to use her intelligence and skills to survive the horrors of the new world.
Shocker! You'll never believe what the evil wizard's castle really is!

This was a lukewarm read for me. At least half of my problems with this story are absolutely due to personal tastes and preferences that make this book not quite right for me.

I really enjoyed the premise of the story and it started off really strong. I liked both the heroine and the hero. The pop culture/geekery references were funny, though I’m sure a few of them went over my head. The world-building felt a little uneven, thoroughly flushed out in some areas, sketchy in others. I didn’t care for the central conflict (), but that is absolutely a personal tastes/preference thing. I felt as though the author handled it well, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. The nameless villain character was completely undeveloped.

I am a huge fan of the author’s historical romances (written as Jade Lee), but the contemporary romances (written as Kathy Lyons) have always been hit and miss for me. This one was a miss, but only by a little.

Filled with science fiction and fantasy pop-culture references, Janet's accidental adventure into another world is pure delight that kept me laughing from beginning to end. Her growth into her own self-confidence and Keevan's awakening awareness of his ability to be both honorable and happy keeps the emotional currents flowing without angst. Even the undercurrent of male versus female options in Keevan's world is handled well, allowing the reader to commiserate with both sides of each argument while also chuckling at the heavy stereotyping pulled from older fantasy novels. My only regret is that there isn't another in the series yet.

Bottom line: A humorous, upbeat, adventure romance that reads like a gift to sci-fi and fantasy fans.

Note: I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for my honest review. The opinions are all mine.

An easy to read romp set in an alien universe. The book has a strong, independent female character. The man she falls for is a prince with a less than enlightened attitude. It was fun to see the way they interacted. There is a bittersweet edge to the story but there is an HEA ending (of sorts).

Giggles galore

I'm a science geek. Even have an advanced degree. I usually try to poke holes in the world building. I was just too busy laughing and wondering when and how the characters were going to save the day and get together. Thank you for the fun romp.

AUTHOR PROVIDED COPY FOR HONEST REVIEW...
Touching. Not gripping, can't put down, but a pretty good read. I liked the romantic aspect of it entwined with the fantasy. I didn't like some parts being a little too vague.
Overall? A good book.

This book was fun and silly. Like Alice in Wonderland with a sci-fi twist, and instead of a rabbit we get a hunky prince. Craziness issues. Fun, easy read.
