A Witch's Guide to Werewolves

Rate this book
It's Halloween time and Book & Candle is busier than ever. Rory Wiltz, newbie witch, is in over her head. To make matters worse she learns from her friend Scott that there've been wild animal attacks on the edge of town.

Taking a respite from her magic lessons with the always mysterious Hunter, Rory decides to check it out. When her pregnant sister comes to town to give birth, Rory is more determined than ever to find out who's really behind the attacks.

But it won't be easy: the local sheriff is not a fan and tells her to stay away from his case. With the help of her best friend Scott, fellow witch Hunter, and the sexy Detective Jack Morgan, Rory is determined to stop the attacks once and for all, but at what cost?

I've always been drawn to all things witchy and mysterious, so it's no surprise that my first book should be about a witch solving a murder! I'm the author of the Book & Candle cozy mystery series. The first three books, A Witch's Guide to Murder, A Witch's Guide to Werewolves, and A Witch's Guide to Hauntings, are available now!

I made it through the first three books of this series by shear will power. Though I enjoy the premise, I am opting out of the remaining four. I give Ms. Harper three stars because she did something I haven't, put pen to page and authored a few books. The character development, dialogue, over use of adverbs and catch phrases, among other things, drove me crazy and has me thinking she was teenager at the time of writing. It also had me wondering if she had an editor. I do hope she honed her skills over the years since this series was published. Happy to see she has enough of a following to garner some stars for her books.

These are cute, easy reads. Enjoyable without much effort or thought. She doesn't drag out situations for pages and pages like some authors do to the point it gets boring and irritating-she keeps things short and sweet. When your looking for a good read without having to think too much; like trying to keep up with the 20 different characters or 5 different plots lines some books may have, this is a good series for that. I'm glad I started these and will finish the rest of the series pretty quick.

A good story

This is another interesting story in the Book & Candle series. Rory's relationship with her magical mentor, Hunter, is showing some complexity; other characters (notably NOT Scott) and situations are realistically dimensional. The mystery is well thought out and a little sad. The irony of catching a character's proofing fails but not the author's own isn't lost on this reader; there's much room for improvement in THAT department.

Ugh.
Choppy writing, bad transitions, dialogue is not well written and the characters are really getting obnoxious with how they interact.
It was getting painful to read. I even skipped ahead just to see the resolution but couldn’t finish.

Ps- I accidentally posted this on book 2 and couldn’t delete.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

A Witch's Guide to Werewolves (A Book & Candle Mystery Book 2) was written by Aubrey Harper. Rory Wiltz is still adjusting to life as a witch. She takes lessons from her childhood friend, Hunter, while also working at the store she inherited from her grandmother. Meanwhile, her best friend Scott is also adjusting to his new life and is working as a writer for the local paper. A number animal attacks happened nearby, leading to both Rory and Scott to investigate. Just as things seem to from bad to worse, Rory's sister, Mindy and their mother show up.
Overall, the story line will hold your interest. There are more characters giving into the eye rolling trend. Along with a love triangle brewing in the background between Rory, Hunter, and detective Jack Morgan.

Nothing is going to jeopardise her unborn niece or nephew. Not if she can help it.

Awesome. Another great fun read. Halloween is a busy time for her at the shop but this is compounded by the arrival of her family especially her very pregnant sister. To make matters worse there have been savage, Deadly attacks on the inhabitants of her community. Fearing for her sister and the unborn baby she and her BFF start investigating the attacks. Even when the local sheriff does all he can to put blocks in their way. Can they still solve the case? Or will this be a case that ends in their demise? Great fun zany read that has great enteraining value. Fun slightly kooky characters just add to the fun.

Is romance lurking or are the werewolves howling?

Seems as if everything is going wrong for Rory. Her sister, her sisters husband and her mom all show up. Her sister was led there to have her baby born by her dreams. Bodies are piling up by what looks like animal attacks and Rory brother in law is not what he seems. Will Hunter finally get the kids he yearns for or will his sister ruin it all? A great second book in the series.

Pretty good

Really enjoy this new series. I like Rory even though she is always arguing with her best friend Scott. Werewolves what's next?

Enjoyable series

I've read the first two books in this series and it's cute. Light mystery mixed with paranormal elements. Aside from a couple of typos here and there, the technical aspects of the writing were solid . The storyline flowed nicely and the characters are interesting and 'normal ' very much like people you might know. There’s romantic references but nothing more than PG; just a light, enjoyable read.
