Traiven’s Pass, the first book of the Trimont Trilogy, shares its story through intimate, multi, first person perspective whose immediate hooking pace captures and thrills. This medieval, real-to-life fantasy brings mystery, adventure, and romance all together into an unforgettable novel of intrigue.
Twenty-six years ago King Cordell vanished. A year later the heroic Trimont lineage abruptly ended. The years following were years of peace under the rule of Lord Breemore as Steward King, yet… lines of clarity have blurred, attitudes have shifted, thoughts have changed, and the past forgotten. By the few who do remember, remembrance is now to the endangerment and mockery of their own lives.
Lydia, a young woman ridiculed for her family’s distrust of Lord Breemore’s rule, is desperate to hold fast the truth. However, this choice may ask more of her than ever could have been imagined and perhaps endured.
Galen, born and raised in a remote village, is unaware of the greater happenings of the Kingdom but burns for a chance to prove himself to his father, who has only turned cold rejecting eyes toward him. When the opportunity of a tournament comes by the hand of Lord Breemore, Galen finds himself on a course he never expected nor intended.
A story so compelling, it is best left told by the characters themselves.
Enter into its secrets, become entangled in the romance, and suffer over the sacrifice. Step inside Lydia’s heart, Lord Breemore’s treachery, Galen’s dreams, and Danek’s passions as the conflict between forgotten Truth and silk woven deception begins…
I met Jessica Marinos this year and she is a very sweet young lady. My sister read her book first and very much enjoyed it, so I was quite eager to delve into it myself and I was quite pleased to find it very enjoyable.
What I Liked: I was pulled into the storyline from the very beginning. I liked all of the characters I was supposed to like. I think my favorite was Lydia Tavish, though. I felt for her as she went through so many trials. Galen was a close second. I became quite amused at myself because I kept getting frustrated with him because it was taking him a while to understand Lydia's point of view. But, I kept reminding myself that he had very little experience with the steward king and I needed to give Galen a chance. :) I liked him more and more as the book progressed. Although I'm hoping that he will make the right decision in the next book.
A couple other favorite characters were Lydia's family, and Lady Vala along with Meklon. Lady Vala's quiet strength was very inspiring and I enjoyed the couple short chapters from her point of view and look forward to reading more about her in the future.
It was really neat to see both Lydia and Galen grow and the different lessons they learn along the way. It was fun to see how all of the elements of this story came together. Several surprises were mixed in, as well.
What I Didn't Like: I can't think of anything that I didn't like about this story. I do wish the second book was available now, but I do know that the author is working on the second one. I definitely can't wait to find out what happens to these characters!
I give this book 5 stars for the strong story, well-developed characters, and the faith of the main characters.
No! No, no, no, no, no. Just NO!!! You CANNOT end a book like that and expect me to just wait who knows how long for the next book! This book did not end on any good notes but one and I am not happy!
This book was amazing! I highly recommend this to everyone! The only thing I didn't like is the cliff hanger at the end. If you know me, you know that I HATE cliff-hangers, so........that is the only thing frustrating me right now.
But guys, if you haven't read this book yet, you REALLY NEED to. It is amazing!!! Everything about this book was just SO.STICKEN.AMAZING!!!!!
One other thing, I am really annoyed with Galen right now. He is so niave and stupid yet so sweet and amazing at the same time. He really just needs to get his pretty little head out of the clouds and come to accpet a few things.
Anyway, before I start ranting on a few things I just want to say that you MUST read this book because it is amazing. I promise you, you will LOVE it!!!
This is one of the best books I have ever read! I would recommend this to anyone 14+ only because of the romance! You immediately fall in love with the characters! You want to just hug Galen and Lydia! And when I found out Galen is a Trimont I was so happy! Amazing work, amazing author, and I can't wait for the sequel!

"The choice of every man, for every moment, is what foundation he will stand upon. 'There are only two foundations for you to trust...yourself or the ageless Book of Truth, where the bedrock of the heart is found. The ground of self is a soggy marshland that causes a man to sink. The selfless words of The Book of Truth are a rock which will cause a man to not only stand, but to rise.'"
Traiven's Pass by Jessica Marinos is a debut novel and also the first book in the "Trimont Trilogy". It is set in medieval times in a land where the king is missing, but a steward king is ruling the land. There are knights and peasants. There is mystery, intrigue, romance, and adventure, and through all of that, there is good and evil at work.
I struggled through reading the first four chapters of Traiven's Pass because it is told in first person, which I don't usually enjoy. However, it wasn't just the fact that it is told in first person, but that the first person Point of View changes from character to character, although each chapter is told from a different character's first person Point of View. However, after getting through the first four chapters, there were more chapters told from the same character's first person Point of View--the character's didn't change so often.
Because the story is told so well, and Ms. Marinos did such an excellent job of creating well-developed characters, after chapter four, the first person Point of View character switching ceased to bother me. I became so caught up in the characters' lives and the story that it was quite difficult to put the book down. Ms. Marinos did an excellent job creating and describing her world without overdoing it, and she is quite masterful at weaving back story throughout the story and not simply dumping paragraphs of information from the back story in the middle of an important scene.
Ms. Marinos did such an excellent job showing her character's emotions that I felt them with them. I have to say that my heart broke over Sir Danek, as I understood his character and so hoped that he could soften. I love Lydia and felt all of her joys and pains throughout the book. Galen has spent his life in a small town and has a lot to learn. I loved the children of Trimont and Meklon and Lady Vala and Rose. I could go on and on. Even after putting the book down, I would think about the characters and the struggles they were going through. They became real, living, breathing people to me, and I can't wait to read more about them.
It was also wonderful to read a novel all the way through without finding grammatical and typographical errors. This book was obviously, painstakingly well edited.
This is the best debut novel I've read in quite a while. It will remain a favorite of mine for years to come. I cannot wait for the next installment of the "Trimont Trilogy".
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves medieval stories, and though, I rarely give a book five stars, in my opinion, Traiven's Pass definitely deserves five stars!
This book is great. I have read it twice, I enjoyed it so much. This masterpiece has been very carefully crafted. You can tell the author took great care and effort to create this book. It's a page turner that keeps you engaged. I actually care about the characters. They feel real. I even prayed for one of the characters one time, then had to remind myself it's just a fictional character.
The book is totally clean and has great values. Christians and non Christians would like this.
Buy this one. You won't regret it, unless you like dumpy books. I am super stoked for the next book.
My demographic is late 20s male. I know people from 13-84 that love this book. I can't recommend it enough. Jessica Marinos should get more notice for this wonderful work of fiction.
I noticed that she also has a YouTube channel to help young authors. She has excellent tips and other info on how to become a more solid writer.
Buy buy buy! It's amazing! Totally not rubbish. It's the opposite of rubbish, treasureish!
I began to reads this novel a few days before Christmas, I was able to read through chapter six before putting it down to make the four hour trip to family in Alabama. I remember speaking with my wife about the book with such detail she felt as though I was in the story. My wife asked how could I recall so much detail, I said that this writing drew me in. I thought that it had been, and then again thought had I ever read such a gripping story? Perhaps but I couldn't think of one in recent years. I thought that Miss Marinos wrote with such passion and thought. I remarked to my wife that this story is both elegant and powerful, suspenseful and captivating. I awoke at three AM Christmas morning and had finished it by 2 PM when our family gathered for our Christmas celebration, that is how captivating and riveting this story is. I am looking forward to reading the continued story in book two.
Spending time in a good book is like siping a nice cup of warm coco while curling up beside a roaring hearth. It's an experience not easily forgotten......one that warms you slowly to the core of your being.
This is exactly the experience that awaits you from the capable hands and mind of the creative genius Jessica Marinos in her captivating tale of Traiven's Pass. In these treasured pages you will find exemplary dialogue between her characters and breathtaking descriptions as you move seamlessly from one picturesque scene to the next.
This is a book set in a medieval-like time period where you can easily find yourself rooting for and behind the characters and the decisions they make. This book is full of unexpected twists and turns making you wonder if truth or deception will have victory over the hearts and lives of the people of Traiven's Pass.
Definitely worth purchasing for any lover of good fiction!
When you think of wanting the perfect book to read on a cold rainy day while sitting in front of a cozy fireplace, this is the book! Not to say it wouldn’t be good any day or any location, because it would. The cast of characters are so skillfully crafted and original that they give power to the plot. The author’s description is capturing(ly) quaint. She has infused such a rich setting with engaging description which allows the reader to see into the characters' world. This book immediately draws the reader in as the author unfolds this marvelous story.
It is usually hard for me to find a good book, but I really enjoyed this one. It did take me a few chapters to get into it but once I did, each chapter would only get better and suck me even further in. I feel that the author actually took the time to put thought and effort into the characters which I feel is often lacking in books these days.
Incredible book series! I highly recommend them. Me and my sisters love these books a ton and they are amazingly written I read it easily in a day. Jessica Marinos you did an fantastic job, thank you!
Marinos has a way to paint an ambiance of a scene and place you there as the character. She was able to emotionally tie me to the characters more so than a lot of other books I've read, and the friend's I've told have also raved about them.
This book was fantastic. I met Ms Marianos at Teach Them Diligently a while ago, and it took me forever to get to reading the book. Once I finally did though, I was hooked!!
This is one of the best books that I have ever read. The details and the way that Jessica writes her characters literally gives them life in the readers mind. I remember crying at the book multiple times because of the way I had grown so found of my “friendship” with the characters.
This is no doubt the best book I've ever read, and I don't enjoy reading too much because the majority of books I read aren't very good and lack good character development, flow, and an intriguing story line. This book, among the few I've read, is the best. You couldn't ask for more developed characters and an intricate yet easy to follow plot. I was instantly connected with the characters and interested in their affairs and lives. Even the antagonists, which in most stories are underdeveloped and distant, are well developed and have vital influence on all the character's lives. The writing is fabulous and creative, and doesn't make me cringe at all with cliches. I wish I could forget what this book was about so that I can read it over and over again (which I still will). Everyone needs to read this book; it might even change your life. You won't regret it!
