When Carrie steps off the stagecoach into Colorado Territory, she realizes the truth: she’s come to the middle of nowhere to marry a man she’s never met. Miles Donovan is strong, solemn and strict—the husband she needs to start her life anew. Amid the dangerous wilderness, he promises to take her in hand and train her to be a good wife to him. But when her past catches up to her, Carrie is ready to run again. It’s up to Miles to help her face her fears, and teach her how to love.
Set in the 1860s Wild West, the Rocky Mountain Bride Series follows the lives of mail order brides and the strong frontier men who take them in hand.
"Rocky Mountain Bride" is the story of Carrie and Donovan, and is another domestic discipline story. Carrie comes to the Rocky mountain as a mail order bride for Donovan, and how the innocent lady ends up married to him while under a firm hand is the story. I was a little bit annoyed by Carrie initially. I understand about how INSANELy innocent she was- but she kept commiting one mistake after another due to her childish sturbborness and getting spanks (I mean don't you ever learn woman!) Her outrage over "Christian values" was funny though. The story then progressed of them settling in their daily routine, her learning how to run the house while commiting occasional errors, meeting Esther, learning truth about Lyle all the while waiting for her "secret" to be exposed. The last half has a lot of drama but ends in a sweet HEA. Safe 3.5/5
This book was a gift from the author with no review required.
This story grabbed me from the first page which hasn't happened all that often recently, and I very much enjoyed the experience. Both Carrie and Miles were likable people who made it easy to root for their happy ever after. I had been somewhat concerned that this would lean more toward the pure domestic discipline genre, but in fact had several erotic scenes which were very well written - as was the entire book.
There were times Carrie did things that seemed rather ridiculous, but her heart was in the right place even if her judgement was shaky. There was one section that never quite made sense to me. Frankly it just struck me as out of place in the story, but it's a minor quibble in an otherwise very enjoyable book.
This is the second book in the series and is another discipline heavily laden story. I'm stuck reading these now as I bought the boxset....will I never learn to turn a blind eye to a pretty cover and cheesy blurb....
Carrie arrives to wed Miles Donovan after a short correspondence with her brother via Dr Shepherd and arrives as a new bride and very new to homesteading. Initially, Miles finds the need to discipline Carrie over nearly every thing that occurs from morning, noon to night. The second half of the story seems to be one long punishment, it was often harsh and my frustration at his heavy hand of 'kindness ' to her constant tears and smarting arse just drained me of the will to live.....my spirit was definitely broken.....
However, the story includes Jonathan and Esther and also Lyle, who was in the first book, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on in the next story with his quest.
It does end on a HFN and everyone in the woodshed is smiling....finally!
Another bride in the series to find her love of a special man and beautiful country. When Carrie arrives in the Colorado Territory to meet her mail order groom, she is faced with a stern, yet kind man in Miles Donovan. When Carrie makes many mistakes while learning her new role as a wife and settling in as a responsible caretaker for her husband and the many animals and chores needed to live in isolation on the ranch. Miles, being a stern but fair husband, takes on his role as her guide and disciplinarian when Carrie makes quite a few errors. Carrie takes her spankings and promises to do better next time but inevitably makes more trouble for herself. In a true Lee Savino story, we read about new experiences, adventure, love, affection and corrections to a naughty behind. I appreciate that when I read The End, I have gotten the Happily Ever After I look for in every book I read.
There's a mystery that runs almost through the entire story as to why Carrie traveled all the way from Boston to the Colorado Territory in order to marry Miles Donovan. It's eluded to frequently, including giving Carrie horrible nightmares. It really did give me a WTF? Moment until I put myself back into the 1860s mindset for it to be plausible. Miles is the epitome of 'don't judge a book by its cover' with his quiet, stern, formidable personality. So much so Carrie is warned by two people shortly after she gets off the stage. We get to see Esther and Jonathon several times as well as the friendship circle grows just a bit bigger. And of course, there's plenty of domestic discipline to keep things spiced up. I've so enjoyed this second book of the "Rocky Mountain Discipline" series.
Every time I read a book about “domestic discipline,” I spend the whole time wondering why I do it to myself. The book was written well but that’s basically all I can say as a positive. It’s formulaic. Stern alpha man who is good at everything plus young woman who doesn’t use the brain she was born with. I’m not attracted to domestic violence of any kind, so I’m not going to be reading any more from this author but if you like infantile women being whacked with belts, this one’s for you.
Forgiveness is a long road. But leads to healing.", February 21, 2016 By Nanette
This review is from: Rocky Mountain Bride (Rocky Mountain Bride Series Book 2) (Kindle Edition) Miles Donovan seeks a woman in good health, who is willing to journey West to marry him and join him on his homestead.
Carrie Winters accepts his proposal. She also agrees to obey him and if need be, taught a lesson. Her chores overwhelm her as Miles disciplines come in the form of spankings. "Miles? Are you taming me? Aye Carrie, it doesn't take that long. But it lasts a lifetime." She feels pleasure but doesn't want Miles to think she is a harlot or a whore. She's reluctant to reveal her past but Miles remains supportive nonetheless. "Oh, sweetheart. You are good, and pure. You're my bride. Anything between us is right."
Miles also reconciles his relationship with Lyle, a man who he calls his brother. As neighbors they had a business relationship that went sour. "Forgiveness is a long road. But leads to healing."
As more drama unfolds, Miles is right by Carrie's side. "You came to me like sun breaking over the mountains. I'll never let you go. Never. Not even if every star falls from the sky will I allow you to run. I love you, Carrie Donovan."
Ms. Savino's storytelling is all-consuming. She has an amazing ability of making her characters come alive. The frank conversations between Miles and Carrie are enlightening and heartwarming at the same time. This is the second book in the Rocky Mountain series. As a loyal fan, I am looking forward to Lyles story next in Rocky Mountain Rose.
NEW BEGINNINGS FOR A FUTURE The series continues with a new bride, Carrie for a rancher, Miles Donovan. Carrie’s brother was friends with Rev. Shepherd and together they made the match. Carrie comes with secrets that are hindering her marriage and believing she can give and receive love. Lies and deceit from a male church member have caused the church in her hometown to shun her and call her a harlot. Carrie is so naïve and innocent, she has no knowledge of a relationship between a man and woman, so she believes she is a harlot. Miles believes a man is head of the household and that the wife will submit and Carrie agrees to that. They face many rocky roads with harsh punishments, but when trouble comes calling; will Miles believe and support his wife? How far will a man go for the woman he loves? The plot kept me captivated; the mystery kept the story in suspense, the dialog is open and the cast of characters entertaining. I look forward to more stories in this series.
This book captivates you from the very start! Carrie, a young woman running from a shameful secret, travels across country to meet Miles, her betrothed. Even though the setting is the American West, the characters and scenes are so believable. You find yourself rooting for this young couple. The D/s elements are very real and add to the beauty of Carrie and Miles's love story. Plus, it was great to revisit Esther. I am looking forward to learning more about *both* Wilder brothers (especially Lyle) and even Martin. I can just picture the future friendships and joint mischief of our heroines of Royal Gorge.
5 stars What a great book. I loved Carrie and Miles. It is a mail order bride tale. Carrie is a woman shunned by the church for something she didn't do. Miles is looking for a good christian woman to be his bride. Along with all the secrets and learning curve, Carrie learns the hard way to trust this man and put her life in her hands. It is a story of redemption. It is a story of forgiveness. There are graphical sex scenes after marriage. There are also spankings with hand, and belt and paddle and switch. All of the corrections were well deserved. It has a happy ending. I really didn't think I would like the story, but I was wrong. I loved it.
Rocky Mountain Bride by Lee Savino is an entertaining read. Ms Savino has given us a well written book. Miles and Carrie's story is a mail order bride type tale. The characters in Rocky Mountain Bride are well developed and lovable. Ms Savino has loaded this book with plenty of suspense, action, humor and sexy bits. There is quite a bit of spanking going on, so this book may not be for everyone. Rocky Mountain Bride is book 2 in the Rocky Mountain Brides Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I received a copy of this book for review purposes.
This one wasn't bad. It did kind of drag out but it was an interesting read. I can see how people in other reviews would call it abuse but I think they're forgetting that it takes place in the 1860s and back then it was up to the husband to take care of his wife and that everything was deadly back then. His reminders were frequent but not unfair and she was a city girl who knew nothing of life on the frontier. Mile and Carrie were perfect for each other and I loved how this book showed the rocky moments in not only their life but also in their marriage and how they overcame it and progressed.
After I finished this story, I found my thoughts returning to it, but not in a good way…
Miles repeatedly stated that his greatest concern was Carrie’s safety and welfare, but he in no way lived up to his declarations when he restrained the movement of Carrie’s arms. He was not an honorable man when he left her alone with a lack of mobility that put her at a real risk for injury while completing her chores. Much worse, in their isolated cabin he made her incredibly vulnerable to physical assault during his absence (they’d just had strangers at the door for goodness sake!). He even threatened to hobble her which would have prevented her from fleeing danger.
A well written story about an eastern girl who becomes the bride of a rancher in an isolated area of Colorado. The main characters are both likeable and the development of their relationship is believable. The story shows some understanding of the hardships faced by people occupying the west in the 1860s. The love between them is not overly graphic, and the punishments that Carrie receives are severe but given in a considerate manner. Some characters from the first book in the series, Rocky Mountain Dawn, make their appearance in this story – but the story is completely stand-alone.
This is the story of Miles. He has the Reverend (Johnathan from the first book) write an advertisement for a wife. Carrie answers and comes to be his wife. There are some trials and tribulations, but everything works out eventually. Miles is pretty strict with Carrie and there are many punishments. But, all of them are deserved. I am enjoying this series and I give this story 4 stars.
This review is based on an copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest opinion.
3.5
I can honestly say that none of the books in this series end in a cliffhanger. Each novel can stand on its own. I can prove it lol, I started with #6 and worked my way forward. The author seems to be a big supporter in corporal punishment amongst spouses.
This book was a joy to read. I love westerns and this book captured all that I love about the era. Loved watching the H/h find their happiness and of course all the steam in between. Carrie was sweet and strong and Miles' quiet way endeared him to me. Cant wait for more from this series.
I so enjoyed this story! My heart hurt for Carrie and I was so happy that Miles was just the man she needed. Their journey to love was special and I found myself cheering them on. I hope the next story is for Mr. Wilder :)
I don't quite know how it happened but I've read all of the books in this series except for this & Rocky Mountain Rose so I was really looking forward to filling the gaps that I had. This story didn't disappoint. I found Miles quite harsh to begin with & it took me a while to warm to him but by the end I was well & truly a fan, although I did think it was overall a slower paced book. I loved the harshness tempered with tenderness that Miles has for Carrie & found the trust that Carrie ultimately places in Miles very sweet. I'm looking forward to reading Rocky Mountain Rose & continuing Lyle's story.
