Do you have laryngitis of the soul? Do you feel like your voice – who you really are without all the roles of mother, sister, daughter, wife, friend – is silent, or is such a tiny little whisper that you can barely even hear it under the cacophony of other people's voices and demands?
If so, you aren't alone. Most women say that they have lost their voice, lost their dreams, lost themselves, after years of living for other people. But there's still something inside of them longing to be heard. They want to live life louder, without having to conform to the expectations of other people's dreams and goals and priorities. Somehow they woke up and found themselves in a life they didn't realize they were creating, and something in the pit of their stomach says that it may already be too late.
It isn't too late. But first, you have to figure out what it is you really want. You have to figure out who you are at the core, after the other stuff has been peeled away. And that's what authenticity is all about: Defining you and your life on your terms. It's not an easy process, but it is a simple one, and that's what this book is all about. In its pages, life coach, speaker, and author Lain Ehmann will lead you on a process of finding out what that little voice is really saying, and in the process of listening, you just might find the secret to the life of your dreams.
Something prompted you to pick up this book to begin with. That little voice won't yell or scream or throw a temper tantrum to make you listen. Instead, it will just go back to its corner and silence itself, until one day you can't hear it anymore.

This is an awesome book. One that I filled with lots of highlights and bookmarks on my nook. I will definitely keep coming back to this advice for awhile. It's a simple yet profound wake up call I think. It's the permission I've always sought to really be myself, but in a way that doesn't compromise my values. I love the encouraging, but not over-the-top bullcrappy infomercial language it uses.
This book basically recommends finding out what makes you tick, sing, and even soar. It reminded me I am happiest when creating things and further digging through my soul, figuring out who I am and what's truly important to me. I really recommend this book to anyone, it's a short, easy, inspiring read.
Inspiring, to the point, great advice and resources. Lain Ehmann explains "authenticity" and offers practical ways, suggestions, plans to achieve a life being "the real me." Genuine, honest, enjoyable read.
I love Lain's clear written message about living the life you want, supported by her own life experiences. She challenges the reader in a serious but fun way. Many times I smiled because of recognition. If you want to start live your life being you instead of someone else, you have to read this book.
I am almost always reading at least ten books at a time, and every now and then one comes along and catches my attention all the way from beginning to end while I leave all the rest go. This book did that for me. Once I found it, I just read it all the way through. I have no idea how I found it, think I was looking for a book on setting priorities, and somehow found it in an internet search. Glad I did, it’s really good. For some reason, it’s written specifically for women, but that doesn’t matter at all - the content works for all genders. One star off because there are links to pages on her website to get worksheets, etc... and the links are all pretty much non functional. Even if you go to her current website, non of the content mentioned in the book is available there. That was disappointing. Other than that, this book is very good and highly recommended.
This book just scratches the surface of self discovery and working on finding your purpose in life. The chapters are short and the message is brief. There is no new information, and some advice is either out dated, anecdotal, or isn't researched. Is great for an afternoon read to get a fire lit under you, but lacks the substance to keep it going. Worth reading in conjunction with other self help, but not a strong stand alone book
I have read, listened to and participated in numerous self-help books, podcasts and courses. My bookcase at home is full of motivational books - I call it my "shelf-help" (a little self-improvement humour there). Even so, I love getting inspired and taking action when I find more information. This book was an unexpected insipirational gem. So easy to read, funny in places, poignant in places and with some really great messages. Two main things jumped out at me - being authentic (yes we have heard it before, but not like this) and linking your highest values to your goals (again, heard it before, but it is really sinking in this time). The only thing I was a bit confused about was how I could implement all these great ideas in 15 minutes per day. This is a great quick read for anyone who needs to boost their life (that would be most of us!).
I appreciated the intent of this short book but felt it lacked the direction I was craving. The idea of being authentic and not cowering to the demands of others is sound advice but very little in terms of how to accomplish this was offered.
Quick but insightful read. I've read Brene Brown on a similar topic (authenticity) but I prefer Lain's terminology. I like the practical info about values.
