Parveen Shakir’s poetry holds an important place in Urdu literature. Her Shayari has a combination of indifference and deep sentiments. Her words speak of pain, love, and self-esteem. She highlighted women’s sentiments and self-reliance through her Shayari. In Parveen Shakir’s poetry, both sweetness and depth of words are found together. Her every word comes out of the heart and settles in the heart.
Her shayari, such as:
“Your words are scattered like fragrance, which you could not understand, how is that close one?”
Parveen Shakir’s poetry gives a glimpse of indifference, simplicity and deep thinking, which makes him a precious gem in Urdu literature.
The rare female poet who wrote for females. I loved so many shers and nazms from this collection , the Urdu at places was tough but it's good to learn and grow for the love of poetry . The poem specially deals with themes of seperation, heartbreaks and pain of life.
The book is a pioneer of 'New Age' in Urdu Shayari. Love has never been portrayed more delicately. Shakir's poems have folk-songs like simplicity and rhythm and the nicety and sophistication of classical music. I fell in love with her ghazals and nazms because of their innocent worldliness.
Woman- is the central point of her work. A broken, shattered by love and yet a self respecting woman. A sensitive yet courageous woman. With this woman as her voice, her shayari isn't a love song but a soft love lullaby. Irony is that this lullaby is a medium of awakening!
Whatever she writes is romantic and deeply sensual, still at no point it comes across as dreamy. Unlike most Pakistani poets, at no point Shakir gets involved with Sufism. Yes, she talks about love, memories, separation, dreams- whatever it is, it belongs to this world, this life.
Parveen Shakir was one of the best poets of 20th century. Unfortunately, we still don't have a complete collection of her works in Devnagari. Until the 'Collected Poems' is published, we'll have to make do with the 'Representative Poems'.
