On the morning of 17th July 2009, proud first-time dad Matt Cunningham and his wife Alison have their world torn apart by the kind of news every parent their beloved eight-week old daughter will not live to see her first birthday. As disbelief and shock give way to unrelenting pressure, everything they hold dear comes under a marriage of barely two years, the bonds of family and friendship, their self perception, even their scraps of faith. As the inevitable approaches, will the redemptive power of love be enough to see them through?Written from the father’s point of view and peppered with dark humour, this beautiful heart-rending memoir, part love story, part cry of pain, lays bare what it really feels like to love against the clock, to be a dad, a husband, a man out of his depth in the ultimate family crisis.
Very, very readable. Tragic real life story of the all too short life of Molly Cunningham, told by her dad. So unusual to read this sort of book from a man's POV. Beautifully written, un-put-down-able.
I rated this book 5 stars would have been more if I could. I think this story is truly amazing as well as happy and heartbreaking all at the same time. It shows so much strength and love. As a parent myself I would honestly say I would have struggled so bad to have gone through what you guys have. I don't know whether I would have been able to cope. I am so sorry for your loss but I really loved your book and I admire you both xxxx
As an RN who has experienced the loss of patients and my own family members, I felt I was with Matt and Ali throughout their heart wrenching journey. The story was tender and touching without being maudlin, and joy shone through on every page. Yes, Matt, you will dance with Molly again.
Every parents nightmare to lose a child... but going through the journey together and having it told through a father's perspective seems especially poignant.... be ready for tears of both types
This is one of those books that totally draws you in from the start . I could not put it down . The way Matt writes puts you emotionally right there with them .
