Susan Sternau has a long-standing interest in art and travel. She holds an MA in art history from Hunter College. She is the author of Art Nouveau: Spirit of the Belle Epoque, Art Deco: Flights of Artistic Fancy, Henri Matisse, and Museums: Masterpieces of Architecture.

Originally from the upper west side of Manhattan, she has now lived in California for twenty years. A recent trip to Easter Island inspired her newest book: Easter Island Sketchbook: An Artist’s Journey to the Mysterious Land of Giant Stone Statues (Sausalito Press, 2014), which she both wrote and illustrated.

Ms. Sternau is a painter, illustrator, and art teacher, with work in many private collections. Her most famous art students were Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. Her art is currently represented by the Galleries Studio 333 Caledonia and Downtown in Sausalito. Susan Sternau has illustrated a number of books including Laura Ingalls Wilder: A Family Collection, Irish Lore and Legends, and The Bells of Paroquia (a book of poetry by David Mazer).
