USA Today best selling author Maureen Child is the author of more than ninety romance novels and novellas. Maureen is a five time nominee for the prestigious Rita award from Romance Writers of America.
One of her novels, A Pocketful Of Paradise, was made into a CBS-TV movie called The Soul Collector, starring Melissa Gilbert, Bruce Greenwood and Ossie Davis.
Over the years, she’s written under lots of different names and she prefers the term ‘pseudonym’ to ‘alias’. As Ann Carberry, she wrote western historical romances. As Kathleen Kane, she wrote not only Americana romances, but western paranormal romances as well. As Sarah Hart, she wrote one really spectacular western paranormal that is still one of her favorites. And once, Ann Carberry even wrote a Victorian historical which she absolutely loved doing.

Under her own name, Maureen writes short contemporary novels for Silhouette Desire—books she loves to write because of their fast pace and condensed story telling. Maureen is also writing funny, contemporary paranormal romances for NAL and darker paranormal stories for Silhouette Nocturne.

Maureen writes paranormal romance novels under the pesudonym of Regan Hastings

A SEAL's Surrender is the fourth book in the series. I'm a fan of Maureen Child, so I was expecting a sweet and poignant tale of love, and I was right!

Chance Barrett Connelly is the recently discovered son of Grant Connelly, one of the other set of twins. While on medical leave, he'd used the chance to meet his relatives. And there he met Jennifer, a beautiful widow with a sick eighteen-month-old daughter, Sarah. For many years, he'd done his best to be forgettable. He'd never had a relationship that had lasted more than a week. He'd hadn't wanted a woman at home for him. Hadn't wanted to have to worry about anyone but himself. But ever since meeting Jennifer, he felt peace, and like that, it was where he meant to be. She and daughter Sarah get so deep under his skin he wants them for his own, but he is still a Navy Seal, and soon he will go back. And Jennifer didn't want to get involved with a guy in the service. She was hurt when her late husband, a cop, was shot dead. Chance can tell that she's scared. But he can't just get her and Sarah out of his mind or his heart. Now he has to find a way to make them his.

Chance Connelly was such a perfect man. He was the epitome of a hero... at least for me. I mean, there's something about a big, tough, protective man who'd accept kids who are not his own into his life with such complete openness and love. How sweet is that?

Jennifer is still hurting from her husband's death. He was killed in the line of duty. She was left alone and pregnant with their daughter Sarah. And now, her precious daughter was sick and in need of an operation when she met Chance. He offered her his shoulder and listened to her problems. And before the night ends, Jennifer knows that she and her daughter's lives will never be the same again. Not when Chance is determined to be with her. At first, she tried to push him away because she didn't want to get involved with anyone right now, and not with a man so much like her late husband. But with Chance's determination, Jenifer finally gave in.

I liked both Chance and Jennifer. They were perfect for each other, but I got angry with Jen near the end. I understand that she was afraid, but it wasn't a cool thing to do that to Chance.. but I'm glad she apologized and pursued him in the end. Plus, the sex scene between them was off the charts!

Overall, A SEAL's Surrender was a sweet-heart-melting read that had a good dose of steam.

i can relate to this book...i was a single mum with a horrible past and put a big guard up with my heart and i met my hubby through a dating site GAMBLE I KNOW RIGHT, he works for the british army, his away alot... anyway after one meeting....we fell inlove and when he met my daughter...they hit it off,... he treats her like she was his own blood and they get on so well such a strong bond,.. now we are due to me married in summer time..i admit it was not an easy start of our relationship so many things against us, others might not believe some others story as to them it sounds far fetch..and if it never happened to me i would too think its very far fetched story,..but the thing is i have gone through this in a way and i know how quickly it is to fall inlove to a stranger, that one look his given me and i know for sure i was done for and he was the one. this two characters are just someone you can fall inlove with...

This book seemed a little absurd to me. The guy meets the heroine & instantly wants to help her and her child. I mean, maybe it's possible, but being that spontaneous can't be a good thing. It's one thing to help a stranger change a tire, but to become as deeply involved in a near-stranger's life as the hero did.... way too cheesy and overly dramatic. This is why I don't like contemporary romance. If the author's not careful, it turns into a soap opera.
