It’s okay

As it’s titled it’s a 14 day guide for phase one of the DASH diet. It’s very American centric and while it gives unit conversions at the end of the book it doesn’t offer any substitute ingredients for outside the USA.

The 14 day starter menu is labour intensive so isn’t suitable for someone who works full-time even if you take a packed lunch. Do diet creators know that a cooked breakfast with the family before work/school is something you only see on television? Apparently not.

Lots of expensive dishes and ingredients too, so if you’re on a budget you’ll find it hard to follow. Some ingredients you’ll not use except for that particular recipe. I have no idea how to substitute an acorn squash in my country. I googled it. It’s not a pumpkin, it’s not a zucchini, apparently it’s something in between.

Overall, it’s yet another diet book. So think of it more as guidelines… actually the only guidelines you have are a list of acceptable foods, a meal plan and recipes. Other than a calorie aim and a sodium aim - that’s it. Come to think of it, if you don’t follow the meal plan as gospel it’s kinda vague about the whole thing. It a very short book.
