A reasonably good murder/suspense tale. Worth reading, but nothing really special.

Meh. It isn't the worst beach read, but it isn't even particularly great. You can tell the author has a passion for baseball, and less of a passion for drama, character development, and plot. The main male character is a douche man-child who should not be anybody's love interest ever. The supporting female characters are interesting, but sketchily developed. I have no idea if R. J. Kaiser is male or female, but I'd actually guess female, because the female characters feel like real women you'd know. But I'd also guess that Kaiser is a bit older and has been deeply conditioned by years of other mystery/suspense novels to think she needed a Jack Reacher hero to succeed.

I can't make a decision on this book. I know I'm usually kind of vague in my reviews...and it's not helpful when I can even tell you whether I liked it or not. I think part of it is I'm trying to find a good detective series I can enjoy and this nearly fits the bill. It's not a homerun (pun intended), but it wasn't so horrible that I wouldn't be open to reading more by this author. Pick it up & let me know how it stacks up for you...and if you have a good detective/mystery author that you would suggest. :)
