When Lexi finds herself standing face-to-face with her cousin, Austin, who she believed to be dead, everything in her worlds turns upside down. Escaping Briar Creek and the vampires in it is only the first step that she must take to ensure her own safety. She still has many obstacles ahead of her and secrets to uncover before she can change her fate.
I enjoy the story's journey, even if the pace is slow. At least the plot is progressing, and I'm eager to see what happens to Lexi and Dan. Where did they end up to? Regarding the event's witness, was it Craig? He seems to be the only person we know of who was present.
However, character-wise, I still dislike Lexi. Her behaviour in the story remained the number one source of annoyance. I fail to see how Gabe accidentally turning someone into a vampire would pose a problem in their relationship (if they still have one), especially considering Lexi's actions when she suspected Gabe of infidelity. 🤬
Beyond Lexi and Dan's fate, I also want to find out what will become of Ben, Lexi's father. What is Veronica's next plan of action? Will Rhonda's role expand beyond a mere plot filler? On a brighter note, I'm rooting for Austin and Anna to get together.❤️
Read as box set of 1 - 4 I liked these books the sucked you in I enjoyed the twist and turns. they weren't what I expected out of a vampire series, but they are worth a read if you want something different.
What I liked: -Austin, Mary-Kate, and Gabe. I liked the secondary characters more than the main one and that’s never a good sign. I feel like this series should have been told from Austin or even Gabe’s point of view, and I can’t help but notice that Mary-Kate would have made a much more interesting heroine. Austin was more than just the stereotypical jock type, and I liked his relationship with Lexi. He was witty and just plain nice. Mary-Kate got judged quite a bit but I saw through the label of “slut” that Lexi plastered her with. Mary-Kate became one of my favorite characters, which is saying something since she gets almost zero development unless it deals with her being a “slut”. -The ending. The final chapter was by far the best part of the book. It was interesting and a huge surprise and part of me is tempted to read the fourth book just to find out what happens. This final chapter was pretty much the only part of the book that really held my attention, and seeing as it was only about two pages of the story, that’s probably not a good thing.
What I disliked: -Plot. I felt like not a lot happened in this book. The story doesn’t really go anywhere; it stays in the same place and the characters don’t really fight towards any specific goal. They just sit around talking or making out or planning, but nothing actually happens. And anything that does happen usually happens off screen and Lexi finds out about it later. These books are very boring, and they try way too hard to be a teen drama. -Lexi. I grew to really dislike Lexi in this book. In the first book, I thought she was an annoying, whiny hypocrite. Then in the second book she matured and she stopped slut-shaming other girls, and I started to like her. But with this book, she started whining and slut-shaming again. And her attitude towards cheating on Gabe really annoyed me and had me rolling my eyes a few times. -Writing style. The writing style is very mechanical. The characters don’t have any emotion to any of the things they do, and it’s almost like reading about robots that are incapable of feeling anything. The writing gets so boring and stale I had to take breaks while reading.
Overall, this was a pretty average book. This book was probably worth the dollar that I paid for it, but I definitely wouldn’t pay any more than that. Like I said before, it’s a pretty standard vampire romance novel, but it doesn’t actually feature any real romance. Something about this series intrigues me, and I hate to leave a series unfinished, so I’ll probably buy the next book in the series, but I would only recommend this to hardcore vampire fans that don’t mind spending a few dollars reading about boring, whiny characters. 2.0
Destined to Die is the third in an interesting new vampire series from sisters, Jayme and Jody Morse. I was excited to read this installement after the cliff hanger of the last book where Austin rescues Lexi and is shockingly alive. Lexi finds out Lexi and Gabe have been working together and Austin was turned right before his parents tried to kill him. Gabe has been having visions and in almost all of them end in Lexi's death at the hands of the vampires in Briar Creek. Lexi has been declared the suspect in a murder so she must hide in order not to be turned into authorities by the well-meaning public. In order to hide, Gabe and Austin take Lexi and enroll in Huntington High a Vampire Hunter school in the nearby town. Lexi finds out that the "Hunters" were a line of vampire hunters and she might be too. But also at Huntington is the slutty vamp that made Gabe and wants him back. After Lexi catches them in a compromising position, she seeks solace in the arms of an old flame.
The main reason I didn't give this 5 stars is I didn't understand why Lexi would just go to Craig. Craig is a character that I have never been able to believe as a love interest for me he is just sort of creepy. I can't explain it really but I don't see him and Lexi as a couple. Because of this ackwardness, part of the story is hard for me to fully get into. It seemed like Lexi just immediately turned to Craig instead of mourning her relationship with Gabe. She didn't really seem that upset about it--no sleepless crying nights. But I still enjoy the unique storyline. Briar Creek is a wonderful new paranormal vampire romance series that I would highly recommend.
As I read this series, I feel every book is just getting better and better. The action starts really quickly into it and doesn’t let up throughout the third book! This book started right where book 2 left off.
Lexi’s questions get answered in the book only to leave her with many other questions! She needs to find a way to escape Briar Creek and you won’t believe who it is to help her. She is having a hard time dealing with finding out who she can really trust and there are some very unlikely people who she can trust.
Lexi finds out that Austin was turned right before his parents tried to kill him. Gabe has been having a lot of visions and in most of them, he sees Lexi’s death at the hands of the vampires in Briar Creek.
As an attempt for Briar Creek to get Lexi back, she becomes the lead murder suspect. Since they don’t want the authorities to find Lexi, Gabe and Austin enroll at Huntington High which is a Vampire Hunter school in a town just outside of Briar Creek. This is when Lexi finds out she is a part of the “Hunters” through her bloodline. One person at this school Lexi doesn’t want to see is the slutty vampire who created Gabe. When Lexi finds the two of them in an interesting position, her heart breaks and she runs to an old flame of hers, Craig.
In this book, we learn more about the history behind Briar Creek.
I've finally figure out what has been bothering me lately about this series. These books are a combination of other series, T.V. shows and truly not very original (i.e. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Twilight, Vampire Academy etc.). Cliche after cliche is used and quite frankly I am just fed up.
Once again, Lexi if fluttering around between boys. First, it is Gabe, Gabe, Gabe then it is Craig. She justifies her actions by saying Gabe cheated on her. However, from book to book, the message is still the same, they do not trust each other. Also, I feel as though Lexi does not believe in herself and does not feel complete unless she has a man.
This storyline is so convoluted and illogical that it made my brain hurt. We are suppose to believe that a vampire who sires another vampire will always know where they are; yet, Gabe does not know Veronica is at Hamilton. Then, half of the people at Hamilton are vampires and it is a school for vampire slayers. Really?
I am so very tired of all of the references to Twilight, and other books/shows that I began to feel this was an effort to stall the series. Also, the teacher/student dating thing really creeped me out! In the end, I came to the conclusion that this series is just not for me. There are too many really great story lines out there for me to be reading something I do not like.
Now on to book three. I think it just gets better and better! The action starts almost immediately so get comfortable. In book three, you learn a few interesting things about Lexi and the ones who are trying to protect her. She must find a way to finally escape Briar Creek and you will not believe who is trying to help her! Lexi is scared to death and doesn’t know who she can trust. She finds herself having to trust some very unlikely people ( well, maybe just one or two….lol) but she may not have a choice.
We learn a bit more about the history of Briar Creek in this book and why Lexi has become so important to the vampires. As the blurb from Goodreads says…..Lexi is going to have to clear some more hurdles in order to try and change her fate. I am really looking forward for the next installment in this series!
I have always loved the character development throughout these books and you will not be disappointed!
After reuniting with her cousin Austin who she thought was dead, Lexi finds herself hiding out from the vampires of Briar Creek. But a big twist comes when the towns people locate their hiding place when looking for her father who she hasn't seen since the age of 7. When Lexi and her allies escape they turn to the one place the vampires should never find them...a high school that trains vampire hunters. Not only that but they find out that Lexi is descended from the strongest line of vampire hunters. This book has a lot going on in it but is very entertaining. I won't lie though, I often wanted to jump in through the pages and slap a couple of the characters for acting stupid. But I remember being a teen and know that it's just part of their nature.
well I have to say that I was hoping lexi would become a stronger character by now but I am still holding out hope. I am over her being all over guys all the time. she trusts anyone, then talks about how she cant trust anyone its a whirlwind sometimes. Lexi gets mad at Gabe jumps to conclusions pretty much after she herself is caught in a situation that could be misconstrued. She keeps questioning her love for Gabe and dating other people but is mad if he looks at another girl. And woo is she going to be mad when she learns about what he did when he was away.
I liked the book, BUT the romance ohh the romance. It just like fell apart in the end. And wat is soo funny is that the reason they broke up kinda.. is like a typical break up int he movies. Lexi should have know that wat she saw, wasnt wat it seems. But no she goes cryin and then goes with another guy. Thats the only thing I got upset about, but other then that it was good
I really like this series, even if the plot is kind of stuck in one place. The main character unfortunately got worse in this book, but the other ones made up for it. There was a sense of drama and mystery during the events of this book, and it was able to hold my attention, despite having a weak main character.
OMG!! Didnt see that ending coming just wow. Im uoset at Gabe for cheating. But 2 wrongs dont make a right. But i do think she deserve it. I think Bloody- Marry has something to do with all of this than she lets on.
I really love this series. You never know what's going to happen. The only problem I have is there are a lot if editing problems...punctuation, spelling, grammar problems. But the books are so creative that I can overlook that.
This book is better then the first and second. I loved it so much but I lost all my electronics so I wont be updating or reading anything until tomorrow. Anyway I am going to die. I have to wait one day to read this book. WTF! I hate cliffhangers it's true.
Okay, I just started this one and WTH....Austin??? more to come...
Alrighty, so I finished Destined to Die, and I have to say WTH? So, the town is still after Lexi and they hide out in a vamp hunter school... I have to think about this review...
typical love triangle. and basic story plot repeats. the firtst two books were page turners, this one not so much. and what was up with the ending? if it is a trilogy then don't leave us hanging.
Soo much relationship drama i kinda feel like I'm reading a soap... still good and it makes me just want to read the final book to see how it ends for all the main characters
Lexi seems to be getting smarter while Gabe is getting more unintelligent by the second. I think it's time Lexi obeys her hunting gene and starts killing these troublesome vampires.
