I’m an author who had a somewhat unorthodox upbringing. I was raised in South America and the Middle East, and wrote my first stories as a teenager in Kuwait, where my sister and I proved it really is hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. I wrote my first novel in three months on a typewriter when I was 21, I used every romance cliché possible (including amnesia — need I say more?), and never rewrote anything, which is why it’s so much fun to pull it out occasionally when I need a good laugh. I wrote sporadically until my youngest child (who is now 18) was two, when I decided it was time to either actually start writing, or to stop saying I was a writer. So I took a class and started doing the scary things that writing requires. Now I’ve written about twelve novels and several children’s books.

This is a sweet romance, rated PG, about a young mail order bride who arrives in Minot, ND only to discover her groom is a runaway!

This was a quick read (ends at 83% with filler at the end) if you're looking for something to pass a rainy day or a commute. A little too tame for my tastes, but not a bad story by any means.

I enjoyed this mail-order bride story. Poor Violet arrives at the train station and has no groom waiting. I loved the way everything worked out, and the ending was very sweet. Throughout the book were quotes from journals and letters of different characters. It was a unique way to gain insight into the characters thoughts and feelings.

I have read the prequel to this series, but this is the first bride I've read about. This book contains a little bit about a few of the other brides. I'm definitely interested in reading their stories now, as well as the others in the series.

Fun Story!

This is another book in the American Mail Order Brides series. Again, the plotline is unique. The details about the town are accurate. The main characters are believable and endearing. The author has a snippet of thoughts which were written by different characters at the beginning of each chapter. It gives the book an interesting feeling as you read it. I recommend this enjoyable book.

Plenty of grooms to choose from

I love Violet's strong, determined personality. At least once she realizes what she wants. I also really enjoyed the relationships she develops along her journey to love. One of my favorite parts of this series is how the women keep in touch with one another. Every bride stays in contact with at least 2 or 3 of her former co-workers.

Wowza!

Violet had experienced a lot of disappointment in her short life, but nothing has prepared her for this "doom"! Can she ever find true love and a real family? This tale keeps you guessing! The journal entries were an interesting tidbit and added to the story quite a bit!

I thought it was ok, I'm not really into the will he/she won't he/she plot line. I am glad he came to his senses.

Great story...

I enjoyed this story, the author did a great job of telling of her characters in relationship to the mail order brides of the history of the west.

4/5 stars

Violet travels to North Dakota to become a mail-order bride after exchanging letters with her prospective groom who says he’s ready to settle down & has been working on a nice house for them to move into as soon as they marry.

But when Violet gets there, she finds out that her groom has run away! But confirmed bachelor, Daniel is there to help her out and puts her up with his sister and her husband. When he finds out that Violet won’t be leaving North Dakota, he offers to help her find a new husband.

But the more time that Daniel spends with Violet, he no longer wants to be a confirmed bachelor. He wants to court her and marry her. But when her groom returns, she’ll have to make a decision and so will Daniel.

This was my third read in this series, but I've read several of Heather's other books so I knew it would be a sweet, clean romance. Poor Violet is only 19 years old and travels all the way from Massachusetts to North Dakota as a mail-order-bride, only to find out her intended is a runaway groom! All is not lost as she is taken in by the Lund family. This is a quick read and can be finished in an afternoon.

Fantastic Story

What would you do if your groom didn't pick you up at the train? Violet luckily ran into another bachelor, unfortunately he wasn't looking for a mail order bride. He did his best to help her find her runaway groom and when that failed, he was willing to help he finds new groom. You need to read this and find out how that goes.

Good story. I liked the journal entries. I also liked the way Daniel recreated the train arrival and greeting his mail-order bride, although he was a "dolt" as his sister would say through much of the story...

This series was my first experience with multiple authors working together to write a series on a large scale. I enjoyed every book in the series and found several new authors that I hadn't read before.

Violet was awesome. Her original groom was a jerk but I was happy with her new guy. He just needed some work and he finally came around.
