From USA Today bestselling author Jeana E. Mann comes this unconventional spicy story of star-crossed lovers who love to hate each other and their paths to redemption.
When I was eighteen, I married the son of a ruthless billionaire. Back then, he was a high school classmate and I was his cook's daughter. I had no idea our marriage could go so wrong so fast. Anger. Tears. Divorce and betrayal.
Today Sam is my new boss. Behind closed doors, we can't keep our hands off each other, but in the boardroom, there's a storm brewing. His father is determined to keep us apart and will go to any lengths to stop a reconciliation. I'm older and wiser now and not going to make the same mistakes. For this relationship to work, I've got to win Sam's trust and I'll go to any lengths to make it happen.Things are about to get messy.***This book was formerly titled Pretty Filthy Lies.

IF you lay it all out for a guy, prove that you were forced to leave him, apologize profusely, and he's still and ass to you then its time to move on.
At 90% in book one the truth was revealed BUT at 85% of book two the Hero is still playing hot and cold with the heroine. He's still saying he "can't trust her". By that point she has bent over backwards to prove herself, she has be honest with you (yet you continue to lie to her), and has helped YOU succeed.
Just as an FYI dude IF ->YOU don't defend her to your friends ->YOU don't speak up for her ->YOU have sex with her then insult her ->YOU keep secrets ...and yet YOU are still unable to trust her...Sir...that makes you a douchebag!
The heroine was the ideal doormat. Yes, she spoke up and did "play" with him some BUT for almost two books all she can do is feel sorry for herself and the situation. At some point have some pride and realize that IF after learning the truth he's still acting like an ass then you just need to move on.
Ultimately, the H and h did get their HEA but even at the end he was keeping stuff from her - like the fact that he's "broke" but has $10M in the bank (according to him his idea of broke is different than hers...HE told her, his financial advisor TOLD her, he stepped down from his position as CEO because of how badly he'd handled finances. Well, if having $10M in the bank is broke then I'm doing "broke" wrong....)
Finally...I want to talk about the h's mom. The h's mom repeatedly told her what a bad mistake she had made taking the money (book 1), told her how badly she messed up, AND didn't support the heroine when it came to the heroine taking the shit from the H...YET it was the money that the heroine took (the heroine never spent a dime of the money on herself..in fact she lived paycheck to paycheck in a small apartment) that allowed the mother to keep her job, allowed her to live without worry, allowed her to see the doctors that she needed to see, and allowed her to NOT be swimming in a sea of debt. It also paid for the heroine's brothers legal fees and kept him out of prison. However, neither of them were the least bit thankful. THAT is not the definition of a supportive family.
Eh, I didn't like this as much as the first one. Most of the excitement and tension was gone. The drama came from Sam not trusting Dakota, and he really acted like an ass about it, making her "earn" it back, like he's her dad or something. He would make her feel guilty for the possibility of leaving him in the future, like a fucking crazy person.
There were also some things that were brought up in the first book that weren't addressed in this one. Why did Dakota feel that the properties were familiar during the meeting with that other business guy? Whatever happened with Sam's dad? What was the point of the file about Dakota his dad gave him, when it contained nothing incriminating? Why the fuck is Sam dumb enough to think $10 million is broke?
Sam and Dakota's story in Pretty Filthy Lies picks up right where Pretty Broken Girl leaves off. Book two had much impact on these characters and the changes they each endure to find their way back to the love they once shared was an interesting journey. Trying to deny their feelings towards one another because of how they've changed since their marriage, Sam and Dakota find themselves at passionate odds. It's an enjoyable two books that held my attention for the duration. The epilogue of this alludes to a third in the series which will be interesting to read as well. I look forward to more titles from this author.
I'm really sad. I wanted to love this as much as the first book and I was just really frustrated. It was the same repetitive issues over and over and over. There were loose ends. Pretty much everyone he knew hated her. Did that change? Whatever happened to his POS father? It mentions kids on the last page and that he closed the computer window luckily before she saw it... ok why? Then boom the end. I was so excited because of the first book.

Book 1 and 2 in my opinion could have been made into one book. The storyline is still good. Think am in love with the way Jeana told the story of Sam and Dakota. Was definitely a beautiful read and worth recommending to those who love reading romance without explicit sex scenes. It looks like most romance books nowadays do some fifty shades mix but sometimes the storyline is what draws some of us.
“We’re not the same. I never wanted to hurt anyone.” I stared at my hands, clasped in my laps. “But you did hurt me,” he said in a cracked, husky voice. “You broke me, Dakota.”
The sequel to Pretty Broken Girl, Sam and Dakota keep trying to make amends, after all ten years of separation, a huge amount of hurt and people wanting to get in the way are not easy to deal with. The big question will be whether Sam will be able to forget the past and move on. He doesn't trust Dakota, in fact that will be the couple's biggest problem throughout the narrative. As much as she shows that she has changed, the shadow of her old decisions still hangs over them. And the couple's enemies are not few. Sam's father will be the worst of them, but Dahlia and even Sam's friends will be obstacles in their path. The chemistry between them remains absurdly hot. Dakota's insecurities will shake her confidence and Sam's sudden mood swings will make her question whether a permanent breakup is any better. Sam will be intense, controlling and at the same time reserved. What goes on in his head will be a mystery, but what cannot be denied is that as much as he tries to resist, he loves this woman intensely. With a beautiful ending, which perfectly crowns everything that these two went through, the book is another beautiful reading in the series. It won't be the end of their story, as there are other books.
This is book two of Sam and Dakota's story. It picks up right where we left off book one.
It was riveting from the first page to the last. It's like watching a telenovela... You can't help but invest feelings as you go along.
In this particular book, you'll wonder if Sam would ever truly accept and forgive Dakota. I know some mistakes will forever be ingrained in your mind and heart, and it's normal to protect yourself from being hurt... but if you want to be with that person and can't let go, there must be somewhere in the middle where you could meet, compromise and work things out... Accept the person with all that she is, flaws and all.
The push and pull was frustrating, and if it was me I'd probably give up to have self respect in spite of my faults. I mean how sorry can a person be? In this case Dakota had shown she truly was...
I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one, the second in the Pretty Broken series. This story is the second part of Dakota and Samuel's stories and attempts to bring a conclusion to it. I gave this a 4 stars or 8/10.
It was a joy to pick up and read, several books over the years have had that effect on me and this series is doing the same. I read this story in just over a day. I was that entranced by it, that I wanted to know how Dakota and Samuel's relationship was going to survive or come to an end.
As things that have happened in the past to both of them and all the lies that have been told come back to haunt them. Can they both learn to forgive one another and move on? With members of the family on both sides appearing to conspire against them, only they can decide what they have to do for the best for both of them.
Another great read and I already had the third in the series lined up to read after this one.
This is a continuation from the first book but I found book one more entertaining than this book. It was still a great read but it didn’t live up to the first one. Cam and Dakota have trouble establishing trust throughout this story. In the end their love for each other wins out jealousy and hatred thus giving them a second chance at happiness.
Dakota and Sam deserve one another. I don't think I cared for either. This story left me with a headache from unanswered questions.
1. Who broke into Dakota's apartment? 2. How is Crockett doing since rehab? 3. Since the epilogue skips years, how many kids do Dakota and Sam have? What business are they in together? Rockwell and Dakota's mom end up in a relationship? Maxwell Seaforth what happened with him? Dahlia?
I disliked Sam and Fran admitting to having sex. Esp. he didn't even like her when she was young.
It was all doubt doubt lust doubt jealousy lust doubt doubt lust doubt jealousy doubt lust doubt love (?) doubt love.
The whole rounding off to 3 stars was thank to the last 20% and that it had at least a decent writing.
So many partd for the angst but somehow the whole ‘love’ or romancing part was off page for that whole first 80%. I just wished they had more of those lovely and cute moments outside of the steamy parts.
Love, trust, mistakes, evil ex-father-in-law, yep this book has it all. I love books with a hea ending. Kota and Sam, after 10 years apart because of a "big mistake", finding away back to each other, and Sam learning to overcome his trust issues with Kota. Nothing like a little bit of jealousy to help them both realize they still truly love each other. I can't wait to read more books by Jeana.
What was written was good and it did finish the first book off nicely BUT was it worth the money? NO Too expensive for such a short story that cld have just been in the first book
Sam and Dakota. Let me see, what can I say? That I fell in love with both characters as soon as I picked the book up? Yep. That I could feel the chemistry between them? Yep. That I totally and completely understood where Sam was coming from during the entire book? Yep. That I completely understood where Dakota was at in her head? Yep.
There are things we do in life with all the best intentions that don't turn out well for anyone. And there are things we do 100% for someone else, and that selflessness doesn't pay off either. Dakota defines that. And Sam? He was born to a father who wanted the control, and that meant he wanted to choose everything Sam has ever done in his life. Free will? Nope, even if Sam thought he made his own life, it was proven ten years before that he did not make the choices in his life.
The story is a love story about two people who are miles apart when they meet again and who struggle mightily to get back to where they were, and to get by all of the negativity and mistakes that were made. I've now read, I think, this entire series and have to say there's only been one of the books that I couldn't get into 100%. This was not one of them.
Yes, Sam is hard to like at times in this book because he can't get over the hurt. But my thought about that, while I was reading, was I don't know if I could either. That a pretty bitter pill to swallow, and to still be in love with the person 10 years later makes it even tougher. I forgave him all of his nastiness understanding that, in real life, we act like assholes to the people we love the most.
Love, hate, deceit, lies and undeniable love and soul mates
The first 2 books of this series is about the lives of Dakota and Sam. They were high school sweethearts determine to go against his Father's disapproval. The marriage was perfect until his father made her a proposal she couldn't turn away. Ten years later their paths cross and all bets are off. Lies and deceit come out. Sam can't get past his anger, but their love for each other conflicts all they know. The story is unpredictable and back and forth. I had to keep reading to see if they could find trust in each other together! It is a must read! I loved every word. Now I am on to the next book in the series about the friends and family is Sam. I hope to read more snippets of Dakota and Sam!
I'm at a loss. I enjoyed the story but I started the first book not expecting or wanting to take on a series at this particular time. I would have preferred Dakota's and Sam's story to be tied up in a neat little bow. I don't like this sense of things left unanswered or unsaid, the epilogue confused me when I then read the blurbs for the next books in the series.
The story was enjoyable, their chemistry was undeniable and I felt sucked in to the relationship turmoil but the fact I wasn't in the head space to take on a series it affected my overall experience. It felt like it could have all been condensed into 1 book and left the rest of the series to other couples alone. I am intrigued as to filling in the gaps but.not enough to read the rest of the series at this time.
Picking up where Broken Girl left off, Sam and Dakota are back together but everything is no rosy. Sam is holding on to a lot of distrust and while he wants to make a go of it, he can't leave the past in the past.
This part of the story is all about trust and how hard it is to regain once you break it. Dakota has to do penance with Sam which, at times, has her coming across like a doormat but she is carrying her guilt like a shawl and holds on to it like Sam his distrust. There are some very sexy times between the two as they work things out as well as getting to know each other as they are now vs what they were before. Sams father, Maxwell, tries his hardest to cause more problems. Filthy Lies is more the continuing story of Sam and Dakota than their ending.
Sam & Dakota's story continues... and what a turbulent story it is. These two argue as though it's a national sport. Sam cannot bring himself to fully trust Dakota & she discovers a few secrets that Sam has been keeping from her. At times, I was quite confused as to where their relationship stood. Yes, they had sex occasionally but were they together. No, not really. The heat & attraction between this couple was mounting. How could they not work things out? The ending ties things up into a neat little package. There are more books in the series that explore the more secondary characters. Even though this couple was on again-off again, I did enjoy the book & the final outcome.
Holy mother of hotness, aggravation, and I have no idea what! I went straight down the rabbit hole of Kota and Sam, and I am still trying to crawl back out! I love these conflicted raw characters, and their off the charts chemistry. I was so caught up in the tug of war between them UGH. I may have had some choice words with my kindle. I mean, is the big bad CEO really holding her emotions hostage over some daddy issues? EVEN when he knows the truth? Pass me a drink! This one is a doozy! Luckily, the author weaved a tale where light is visible at the top of the rabbit hole, bringing the fabulous chaos I am invested in together magnificently! I am soo glad I found this set of books!
Prety Filthy Lies is the second installment to Dakota and Sam' story and picks exactky where book #1 left.
I was hoping for so much more from this book, but didn't get it and it was bittersweet for me because I wanted to enjoy the rest of their journey as I did their beginning.
I was expecting answers, resolutions, comprehension and redemption. This second book was pretty much more of the same, no evolution, no growing, no healing, just a vicious circle that rounded and rounded without getting anywhere. And...I got frustrated with the characters.....And....some things never made sense.
I was invested and it made me sad ending disappointed.
The first book was a real page turner and this one was the same. The simple storyline twists and you are totally immersed in the plot. good characters and dialogue. Now the negative, too short, second half rushed and I think it could have continued. Lots of unanswered questions, Sam's dad, the deal, his friend and her motivation, if kota was ever going to be forgiven, who broke in etc etc. I don't want it all wrapped up in a pretty bow but at least answer the plots. Would kota ever be accepted by Sam's friends and not constantly judged. Otherwise good.
Sam and Dakota are back. I will say when I finished the first book, I was like I need an epilogue!!! Then I seen book 2 and grabbed it up real quick.
Sam has a hard time with trusting Dakota after she broke his heart. Will he be able to learn to trust her again even with friends telling him he can't. Even his father is saying it.
Will Dakota be able to love the man he's become instead of the boy that he was? What if he isn't the man to make her happy?
Read it and find out what happens with these two!!
Sam and Dakota are at it again, with this one I felt a bit frustrated with Sam, I get it he doesn’t trust her but he knows what happened and that she didn’t do it for the money she did it for her family and for him, at eighteen you do believe a lot in what other people tell you, he himself believed his dad over the love of his life so there! Wasn’t he supposed to know her very well? He would have guessed that something was wrong. But all of this is what made the book good 😆 all the doubt the going back and forth the jealousy, at the end we get our HEA.
What happens when your father-in-law buys you off to get you out of his son's life. You take the money and ten years later your ex buys the company you work for to get back at you. What do you do??? Your ex still doesn't trust you. His goal is to destroy his father. But father dearest is at again and tries to bribe you again and sends all kinds documents to your ex and you find them. Where do you and your ex go from here? Is everything irreconcilable?
This is, for me, a stronger story than book 1, which I found somewhat frustrating due to the lack of communication between the main characters.
Here, there was more of that, but also, the depth of their connection, even when they weren't sure that they could get over what had happened, was palpable.
And the ending? Perfect for this couple.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
This book concludes the main story arc started in the first book with Dakota and Sam. I thoroughly enjoyed it for the same reasons I enjoyed the first one. The next one is about Beckett and Venetia, but the obe after that is about Sam and Dakota again. I think I'm going to be bad and skip to that one for now lol.
