Colleen Shannon's ancestor signed the Texas Declaration of Independence and her West Texas roots give her the optimistic yet inquiring viewpoint that she tries to reflect in her books. She recently sold three Ranger series books to Lyrical Press. #16 Foster Justice debuted December 2014, and its stand alone sequel #17, Sinclair Justice, will be released in July 2015. The third series book will be released sometime in 2016, tentatively titled Austin Justice. They are her first published romantic suspense-- contemporaries about Texas Rangers.

"She, a pirate’s plaything? The Grenville blood bestowed by her noble ancestors fired in her veins. Never could she humiliate her name and herself in such a way."
This is a run-of-the-mill girl-meets-boy pirate story, and since the blurb seems to give most of it away I'm not going to bother with another recap.
I usually enjoy the older romances when I'm in the mood for a lighter read, but I still want some meat on the bones and not a lot of sugar coated fluff written with a heavy dose of cheese and purple prose wrapped up in way too many adjectives. Predictable plot, annoying foot-stomping heroine who constantly stomps those feet whilst walking over the hero. And my eyes - the purple prose!
"It seemed the Earth Herself had favored this loveliest of daughters with precious elements: hair of fire, skin of alabaster, eyes like oasis pools. Tory’s cheeks were tinged rosebud pink with her inner conflict. Her trembling bosom promised earthy delights to the all too human man who longed to rest his head there."
"Even as he told himself not to do so, he reached out to trace the pink velvet trim where it lay against the creamy silk globe. His male flesh ignored his will, standing to full attention in homage to her beauty."
"No, he might as well admit it—the lady hellion had worked him up into such a lather that he was fractious as a rutting stallion. After six weeks of tossing in his narrow bunk, he feared one look at her would be enough to make him cast honor, caution, and even pride to the winds and spread her beneath him where she belonged. . . .
You can find more like that in my status updates if you are a sucker for punishment, no need to make this tl;dr.
Except for readers who really like the boyfriend/girlfriend tropes and characters with a maturity level equal of a teenager, I'd suggest everyone else give this a pass.
Final comments, the Kindle edition is littered with what I assume are conversion errors and it's unfortunate no one checked for them before releasing this. I obtained this when it was a freebie, but I'd be a might ticked if I'd paid a penny more. 1 instead of I (a lot of times). Dropped letters in a word, i.e. bum instead of burn. Gill instead of girl. Tom instead of torn. You get the idea - see my status updates for further examples.

bit too much of the formula romance, girl is taken prisoner by a pirate, girl falls in love with pirate, girl finds out he is actually a gentleman who has been sent by her grandmother to rescue her, girl dislikes boring and predictable and longs for the excitement of their courtship, girl marries due to pregnancy, they eventually get their act together and admit they love each other. Probably a solid C grade but just too predictable to be an exciting read. Characters are larger than life and not even remotely believable.
