Alluring but barren, omega is an unfortunate affliction Skye is trying to outrun. He gets away with it for several years, fleeing to a new city whenever the wolves get too close, but his survival mechanism creates a terrible, unforeseen result. By dodging and ducking every rogue alpha to approach him, the one that finally keeps up is the size of a truck. Liam is not a wolf to be disrespected, and Skye is all too aware of his place in the pack. Natural selection has never been kind to him.
But, strangely, Liam sort of is.
Trouble is a novella of about 26,000 words and part one of an eleven part series. Now available as one book.
I was actually sort of surprised by this one, as I kind of enjoyed reading it. Too bad that didn't last. After reading some of the second one, I've decided not to try reading the rest. It's a serial, so don't think you're gonna get an ending here, and from what I've seen, there won't be an ending for quite a while. I just can't imagine it. This is a fairly simplistic tale, and the idea of dragging it out over the course of who-knows-how-many installments just sounds extremely tiring.
I gave this serial a try because it's conveniently available through KU. Each book is more of an episode than a full arc, so I'm putting all my thoughts in a single place.
The first book is alright. Skye is an Omega on the run, and Liam is an Alpha warrior sent to figure out what's causing so many rouge werewolves to leave trails of carnage (hint: Skye). I liked how gentle Liam is in dealing with Skye who's suffered so much abuse that he's a panicking mess.
The second book, however, is where I DNF'd. Liam is far too insecure and out of sync with Skye's needs. As one of my friends puts it, "A dom has to dom." But Liam is a reluctant dom who, in a valiant effort to not be rapey, forces Skye to make all the first moves. Which, okay, but Skye is in heat and I don't read Alpha/Omega books for the slow burn.
Additionally, I'm not a fan of the misogynistic tone throughout both books. The offhand comments about every woman Liam and Skye meet along their road trip is very... ugh. It's bad enough we have a world in which Omegas (who are always men) are treated like garbage because they are "barren," thus unable to meet werewolf society's goal of continuing genetic lines. You don't have to drag the women down in the process.
*shaking my head* 2 stars for a decently interesting start that ultimately sputters into boredom and annoyance
I know there’s another volume already available but this felt too short — like the story was cut off before it reached its natural conclusion (it was first published as a serial from what I gather).
That being said, the world building (and spin on omegaverse) was very intriguing! I didn’t hate the writing style but I didn’t love it either, it was a little closer to purple prose than I typically enjoy.
There’s no spice in this so don’t go in expecting that. In fact, one of the MCs has a lot of past trauma so sex is the furthest thing from their mind
Expect - Forced proximity (+ only one bed) - Age gap - Past trauma
This is written better than most, edited better than most and much more well thought of than most. There is a problem though and that is its main character, Skye: as soon as he is caught, he loses it. Every trace of the self-determining, strong-willed loner evaporates into a submissive idiot too afraid to breathe. He is not coping waiting for an opportunity to be free again, he just surrenders and that ends the story before it can begin. That this is just a very short first (free) instalment in a series of very short (but quite expensive) instalments does not help any.
This is a very solid alpha omega story with good world building, and compelling enough that I went straight to buy and read the second and third of the series. Both MCs are extremely appealing with flaws that give them dimension, and the psychological development feels realistic, with an absence of insta-love.
On this negative side, this is one of a series, and so far at 3 installments the story is nowhere near done. Each episode is just that - an episode, with a smallish narrative arc and no conclusion. When this is finished, and if it's then offered as one volume, this could very well be a five-star read.
3.75 stars. Underdog on the run, paranormal shifter style. The writing is somewhat rough around the edges, but I was caught up in the story regardless. First short episode of 12, and I can't wait to continue the story!
This freebie was tiring. Skye changed from wanting to run, wanting freedom and be as strong and smart he was until he meet Liam he just …submissed? Became idiotic. Just ugh, I had high hopes for this werewolf M/M romance but my hopes were crushed. I did not like Liam at all either; Sourpuss.
Excellent characterization. The author puts you right into their heads, especially Skye. You can feel his desperation and fear as he tries to figure Liam out. The tension is palpable as you're thinking will they/won't they. The physical journey they're on mirrors the emotion journey going on. Be aware that this is a serial; this is not a standalone story. I can't wait for the next part to come out!
Grazie, ma no grazie.
Tanto più che ho letto su Goodreads che la seconda parte di questa epopea è di molto inferiore alla prima e che i personaggi vengono snaturati, quindi per me la cosa finisce qui - al massimo ci sono sempre le fanfiction su AO3.
This is the first book in the :Omega Trouble M.M Wolf Shifter Romance Trilogy
This was a pretty decent read I liked both main characters I liked slow burn book's opposed to the Alpha as Omega jumping right into the Insta love thing in my opinion it's not realistic . The only thing that I did have a problem with was Skye 's constant back and forth I get that he has been horrible mistreated by his lack and especially his step-dad but dang he really tried my nerves . Anyway looking forward to getting to read about more of these two and their love story .
At first I wasn’t sure about this story, but it grabbed me and I couldn’t put it down. At first I thought Liam was the bad guy and Skye the naive victim, but that was not really the case. Liam and Skye are just both lost individuals trying to make it on their own without causing trouble. Both have ideas of what life should be, without being pursued or pushed into others preconceived roles. I look forward to reading more about them.
An interesting story of shifter wolves, or about a special omega wolf. I like the bit rough style of writing here. Perhaps the shifting of time lines was sometimes confusing? As the story was reaching its exciting top, it just - - ended. Suddenly. Not in a middle of sentence but almost. Not funny. It would be fair to reader that every story had some kind of end..
Book just drops off. There’s no ending or even really a cliff hanger. The Author just kind of stops. Not recommended. You keep waiting for something to happen and nothing does. It’s like they started a book and after three chapters just sent it in. Could’ve been a really good book if there was actually a book.
I got to 50% and realised that nothing much was really happening. Got to 79% and the book ended on a cliffy. I love Omega stories especially with big strapping Alphas chasing someone in Heat. Unfortunately I'm not the type of reader who enjoys having to read multiple books just to find the HEA for one couple.
Okay, so I wanted to try Eileen Glass. This title was free, so here we go. It read fine, but a bit long. Then I read the reviews and noticed, that it's a serial with a dozen more installments in store for which I have no time at all. Nor am I that into alpha-omega-werevolves stories.
So no rating, since having read only 29 % of part 1 of 12? Not possible, not fair.
I don't really know what to think about this. I can't figure out if I like Sky or not. Liam is an other matter. I really like him and that is why I give this episode 2 stars and even might read the next episode if I come across it.
As the introduction, is very well written but I feel that something is missing. There's not really a set direction of the world because all the set up isn't there. I don't get the Omega verse here
It's interesting for starting but I wish there's more of the alpha/omega interactions later on in the series. So far, this book definitely pick my interest so I definitely won't mind reading the next one soon.
Rounded up to 3 but I'm disappointed where the story ended. It's another one of those, join my mailing list to get the rest free gimmicks - gimmicks I do not like. Don't think I'm going to fall for it this time.
Not saying that it was bad but I think I waned it to go faster and not be as confusing with the beginning chapters. Along with that it was hard for me to understand which he didn’t want to happen versus what was actually happening.
Short and cute, but nothing great. This is also because it is short, so it feels like a part of a book, a leaves too many questions and things in the air for the reader to truly get into the story. But the couple seems nice enough.
This is a great start to a series. I will be reading more from this author. I would have given it a 5 but it super short and more anxiety than relationship.
