It had only taken a month for Liam Malloy to fall in love with Ebony Devane during the summer before their senior year of high school, but fifteen years for him to do anything about it. Yet when they meet again at the state fair, he doesn't waste any time letting Ebony know they belong together. Ebony had been prepared for Liam to be her "one who got away", but she hadn't expected him to boomerang back into her life wanting to pick up right where they'd left off. Though Ebony has beaten many odds to forge her own personal success, she is still the daughter of a teenage single mother while Liam is still the son of a prominent Charleston family. And as his father's mayoral race enters its final leg, the political intrigue has far-reaching consequences no one could have foreseen. Can a summer love withstand the fall years later, or will past relationships shatter it all?
Savannah J. Frierson is a USA TODAY best-selling and award-winning author penning diverse romance and mainstream fiction full of genuine characters, authentic stories, and passionate feeling.
Having read most of Savannah J Friersons's books, I thought I knew what to expect. Southerners from families who are decidedly not politically correct (probably from the Carolinas), Sunday Baptists, schmaltz , randomly raunchy sex scenes, and a fun supporting cast. I got that but in a really... disappointing package. This read like a pulled to publish SJF fan fiction. I didn't DNF but I think I should have.
As teenagers Liam and Ebony thought that what they felt for each other was special. It took them 15 years and a chance meeting to figure out what they had was worth fighting for. What I loved about this story the most that no matter the obstacle that they came up against, Liam and Ebony never questioned their love for each other. This couple definitely came upon so secrets that, had they not loved and trusted each other completely, would have torn the apart. I think my favorite part of the book was when Liam was forced to choose between what he could have with Ebony, and what he already had with his family. He didn't hesitate when he chose a future with Ebony. The side characters also found themselves in some difficult situations, which made this story that much more enjoyable. I really enjoyed Liam and Ebony's journey to finding their way back to each other. I give this book 4.5 stars.
Five star read.I first heard about this book at a FB event and was anxiously awaiting a copy. I have read this author before and was hoping for a great story. I was not disappointed at all. This author write about life and experiences in it's realest form. This is a book of a whole cast of characters on their path to self-discovery and forgiveness. Ebony "Bony" and Liam met over 15 years ago and found each other again. I love me some Saffron and all the supporting characters with the exception of two LOL. I read it in a day and half because life keep getting in the way. Way to go......Until next time, I recommend
This story was good because of the premise and the secondary characters. The premise of the story of Liam and Ebony was good; lost loves and all of that. They met at a summer camp 1 year before their senior year of high school and never forgot one another. She gave him her virginity and kept it for him the last 15 years. Ebony was his true love that he never forgot. They see each other at a carnival and it was a whirlwind romance. That was okay, but the real story is what happened between her mother Saffron and Pierre, the man that was brought in to destroy Liam's father's competition in the mayoral race in Charleston. That story within the story was spicy and made the story worth reading. :) The twists and turns sustained in their story was like *BIG INHALE!* Not knowing how their story would end because a reader really didn't know was the icing in the proverbial cake. Otherwise, the story was saccharin in nature besides the bedroom scenes. (Though I must admit, I liked the reality that the hero wasn't the energizer bunny; he needed time to recoup in between sessions. LOL)
Not my favorite from the author. I struggled through this one. It picked up after a slow start but I am more partial towards Being Plumville. That book reigns supreme still. I wished Liam and Ebony's summer camp was more developed and their reunion at the fair. It seemed rushed and not developed as well. Who kisses someone 15 years later like that? Just not believable... how'd Ebony have a fiancé but still only had Liam as her only partner--again far-fetched.
I really enjoyed this book...started a little slow...but moved along quite elegantly...so beautiful and poignant.....so tasty and good...I could almost taste the shrimp and grits...like low country South Carolina....could see Charleston in the words...and Liam is one of the most romantic male characters I have ever come across....such a good soul...loved Ebony from the day they met...the other supporting characters makes the story wholesome and entertaining...Saffron and Pierre needs a book of their own...what a storyline...Savannah can just let that write itself....wow
A wonderful story, that dealt with interracial relationships realistically
A wonderful story, that dealt with interracial relationships realistically, truthfully. The characters were well developed and the love the displayed for one another was mirrored in the story, I love that Liam loved Ebony enough to show his parents that they could not dictate who he should have in his life because they were bigots. A wonderful story with strong characters that relate to what's happening in our times right now.
I found this to be a pleasant story with just the right amount of twists and turns and humor to make it very interesting and enjoyable.
Liam and Ebony met at summer camp as teenagers and fell in love. They went their separate ways, never really forgetting each other. When they ran into each other, fifteen years later, it was as if they never left.
This was a great book. All the twists and turn unfolded showed how your supporting family is not always the ones with your DNA. I absolutely love Ebony and Liam's relationship and how their love manifested itself 15 years after their initial meeting. I was glad to see how this book embraced diversity and how different families can be formed. Love does conquer all.
This book has so many layers, so many deep characters that could make the characters live on in many more books. Beverly Jenkins has that gift, sharing lives across more than one person's book life. I will look for a young Saffron, or a young Papa Walt! Thanks.
Frierson's continues her theme of forbidden relationships and family secrets, but this time the story is set in the midst of a mudslinging southern political campaign. I love that southern politics are always depicted in the same light as Robert Penn Warren's All The Kings Men. It always makes for a juicy story, dripping with secrets.
I lost track of all the ways the protagonists were connected to each other..kept reading because I was intrigued. Not the best book by this author. Too many secrets to be believable, but suspending disbelief anything can happen...
Yes I would recommend this book it's ghetto it's real and it's humorous it reminds me of my family we gotta lot hot messes going on but I loved to death and we got each other back I loved loved this book .you go Savannah!!!!!!!
