I thought this was a good story idea. Very unusual for a bride to order the groom. I liked the main character and the hero is very lovable. The tension between these two is great. This is a clean romance that is well written. I thought it wrapped up nicely.
I think this book wants to be entertaining fiction, but the only entertainment to be had here is looking for the next ridiculous statement, anachronism, grammatical error, and impossible-to-forgive time-shifting. I think I can review this book by giving you some of the many examples of badly written prose.
It wasn't until I had read 55% that I got a clue as to the time frame (a "flapper" hat) and 85% until I had a more solid clue when we are told that she got into a car (not a carriage). And that Henry Ford had been selling them for two years.
The real question should be, why did I read to 85%? I knew by 20% that it was going to be a disaster. But then I had a thought, why don't I continue to read and make a list of all of the travesties of acceptable writing?
Naming people: The heroine's name is Eve; her father's name is Adam. Her twin sons are Lewis and Clark. She did mix it up a bit by also calling them Clark and Lewis so you get a little confused. And I will end this review with a couple of actual quotes. Remember it is 1922: (she so did not need...), (look again, Claire Bear...), and my personal favorite, ("You're like, the best writer, ever.) I am not making this up.
Unfortunately, this is the first book of a trilogy. I will not be reading the next two. I'm sure I need to wash my hair or clean the cat box or something... Once you read them maybe you can fill me in on the highlights.
The book is very well written, though there were a few errors in this kindle edition, it didn't take from the storyline. I liked the main characters, strong but willing to evolve as life happens. I want to know more about their lives. I know I will be looking for this authors books.
This is a wonderful story of a young mother who has been running her dads company since he passed and has to deal with the demands of a board who say a man must run the company. Do she must find a husband.
I wouldn't consider bits of the story, and some words used, to be historically accurate which is always a bummer when you're reading Historical Fiction.
Again, like the Amish romance I just read, I wanted to see what all the genre fuss was about with this mail order bride thing. Simple, straightforward story, a little bit of tension, denial-then-acceptance of love, and an HEA. An easy formula to follow and I'm thinking I should start writing some of these kind of novellas.
I loved this book. I appreciate so much that Ms. Sonja writes cleanly. Her stories are really excellent BUT she needs a new proof reader. There are too many errors for a professional author!
Straightforward and simple mail order romance story. Nothing racy, and a quick read. The editing could have been somewhat better with grammatical corrections.
Lady must marry to keep publishing company according to this historical novel. It got a three star from me because at least the book flowed quickly. I am not interested in reading more books like this one.
This was a sweet romantic mail order bride love story. Eve was so afraid of loving a man again that she nearly missed a chance for true love. Robert was so patient and loving that she grew to love him deeply.
