Questions are answered and new mysteries introduced as Season One of Bookburners, the urban fantasy episodic series from Serial Box, comes to its thrilling conclusion.
With The Book of the Hand in their possession at last, Team Three can finally kick the Hand out of Sal's body. The only problem is, if she wants to save Perry, too, she'll have to bring him back from the Hand's dark dimension. That's a tall order, even with the help of Aaron—whatever he is. And meanwhile, Thuvani Shah and Team One are getting ready to move in on the renegades with guns blazing.
This episode is brought to you by team-writer Max Gladstone and is guaranteed to leave you on the edge of your seat, if not flat on the floor.
Battleground continues the 16-part Serial, Bookburners, presented by Serial Box. From a team of writers, this collaborative effort unfolds an epic urban fantasy narrative across an entire season in weekly installments.

--Ian Tregillis, author of The Mechanical and Bitter Seeds
"Bookburners is an exciting new take on urban fantasy. Love the premise, love the characters, love the unique (and sometimes wonderfully disturbing) spin on the dangers of magic!"
--Cassandra Rose Clarke, author of The Assassins Curse
"Bookburners has everything I want from episodic storytelling - strong writing, a rich premise, and memorable characters that will keep me coming back week after week."
--Mike Underwood, author of the Ree Reyes Geekomancy series
"Bookburners satisfies my craving for pulpy, demonic chaos with sharp writing, deliciously sinister magic, stellar black humor, and a kick-ass cast. The serialized story perfectly suits a sorcerer’s codex of baddies while the plucky Sal digs for deeper truths in her work with the Black Archives squad."

Bookburners Season One: Episode 16 (The Finale)...
Team 3 has been surrounded in their hideout & ordered to surrender to Team 1 & 2. Team 3 has a few things they need to do first, like get rid of a demon, so Liam, their resident techy has setup a whole slew of traps to keep them occupied --but will they be able to hold them off long enough to finish what they started?!...
Well that was the finale guys & Team 3 went out with a bang! One of my favorite parts was Liam's obstacle course played out alongside the Agatha Christie "And Then There Were None" dialogue. That was ingenious & so hilarious- I loved it! : ) All of the loose ends were wrapped up very nicely & Team 3 had the last laugh in the end.
I'm ready to move on to Season 2 now. It looks like it's going to start with a fresh slate since there weren't any big cliffhangers. There's also a whole new set of authors so I'm curious to see what they have in store for the Bookburners.
*I received Bookburners: The Complete Season One from NetGalley & Serial Box Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
I'm only posting a rating and review for the final episode because there's no entry for Bookburners as a whole, and it's a single story, not 16 separate stories. Which means my rating reflects the story as a whole, not just episode 16.
The early episodes really drew me in, but the middle felt a little weak -- I was reading more to get to the end than because it kept my attention. The end of episode 11 felt trite, and so, at the point where I was presumably supposed to feel the stakes had just jumped, I completely lost interest. It took me several tries and a few weeks to make it through episode 12 because I just didn't care any more. Once I did, I managed to read all the way through to the end; the final episode was solid, not exceptional, but good.
The authors are clearly leaving an opening for a season 2, but I don't know if I'll read it.
A very solid ending to a series (season?) that, on the whole, had a ton of quality to it and was a hella enjoyable ride. The cliffhanger wasn't a surprise, but was nevertheless satisfyingly written, and I'm totally in for S2, when it comes.
