Annie’s Mysteries Unraveled #8

Double Strand Deception

Rate this book
When Kate Stevens and her good friend, Vivi Lawrence, are invited to a high society benefit in an exclusive part of Sage Hills, little do they know the mysterious events about to unfold.

The annual Piece de Resistance Gala, a costume ball capped by a big-ticket scavenger hunt and silent auction, will feature a crocheted one-of-a-kind gown created by Kate, a nationally known author and designer.

Kate attends the gala dressed as Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind, while Vivi, in her inimitable style, is disguised as Catwoman. The frivolity of the evening turns deadly serious the next day when priceless jewelry turns up missing, and Vivi is at the center of the criminal investigation.

Kate is confident her friend is innocent, and she sets out to solve the mystery before jail doors slam shut in Vivi's face. But every clue seems to lead down a Texas-size rabbit hole. Kate desperately looks for the real crook, even as the facts of the case point more and more toward Vivi.

Helping Kate is Peter Mathews, the dashing Fort Worth PD homicide detective who is also her "more than just a friend." But in a case that is outside his jurisdiction, Peter must walk a thin line while trying to keep Kate out of trouble.

Kate was too ditzy in this book, making too many rash, silly decisions. I didn't enjoy it as much as others in the series.

I found this and another in the series at a Thrift Shop. I love the fact that it is an easy read like you would take to the beach. It is a good clean wholesome story that I would recommend for anyone who loves to read or just into mysteries. I knew of Annie's.com because I also crochet but never knew they had series of books until I ran across these two.
