Gabrielle: Bride of Vermont is fourteenth in the unprecedented 50-book American Mail-Order Brides series.
Heartbreak and tragedy forced Gabrielle Petersen to seek a husband, even though she wouldn't pretend to be capable of loving him. She'll even move to Texas, which is a long way from home.
Boone Dillingham may be a perfect match for Gabrielle since his heart belongs to a woman he'll never lay eyes on again.
This is an inspirational, sweet, western, historical romance.
About EMILY CLAIRE… I live in Arlington, Texas, with my husband and four children. Loving them is my first priority. We homeschool two of our children, and my goodness, that’s quite an experience! After proofreading for friend and USA Today bestselling author Kirsten Osbourne, she said to me, “You're going to write a book.” It wasn't a question, it was a statement. “I don't write books. I proof them,” I said, rolling my eyes. She proceeded to strongly encourage me to “just do it.” I’m so glad she did! What an adventure to write and share what’s in my heart and mind. Why write? I considered what was important to me. I'm a Christian. I've struggled. I've received so much grace in my life and have learned a few things about changing and healing along the way. I love to laugh, but sometimes I cry. Life is about feeling and experiencing! I wanted to share it. But I certainly wasn't interested in writing about myself and I wanted to make it enjoyable. REAL. LIFE. STORIES. My desire is to share "G" rated (“sweet”) stories about people facing the ups and downs that life throws at them. I prefer settings that reflect a simpler pace and lives with less chaos, but the solutions to life’s puzzles are remarkably the same whether they occurred in 1890 or 2015. I’m honored when I hear from my readers that they’ve laughed, or cried, or contemplated deeper meanings and have been touched by my words. Besides writing, I enjoy proofreading for other authors. I also provide administrative support for a friend's therapy center for children with autism and other behavioral issues. I have children on the spectrum, so it’s a privilege to serve others in this area. I’d love to hear from you! I truly enjoyed this book. Gabrielle accepted Boone's letter as a mail order bride because he was her last chance. She would be on the streets otherwise. He sent a letter because he was lonely and she fit all his specification. They both wanted a marriage in name only. This is a story of what happens when you give love a chance. I also lo ed that it was inspirational.
I'm reading these in order and this one has been my least favorite. I found myself annoyed by the characters and their insistence on a platonic marriage. Plus, where was Vermont?
This next installment in the American Mail Order Brides series is part of the original group as the heroine, Gabrielle, is roommates with Roberta the manager of the girls affected by the Brown Textile Factory fire. Although it starts in Vermont, it shifts to Texas. The storyline is interesting in that both main characters want a celibate marriage. It looks like the story leads to several other stories in this town in Texas. I look forward to reading those stories! Also, this author has some very inspirational prayers and thoughts. It develops naturally through the story and makes the story beautiful and enjoyable.
Loved this book too! I loved that he was a saddle maker, leather tooling has been passed down in my family for 5 generations, I still have the stamping tools from my great grandfather! This was a very good storyline though I was hoping that it would have more to do with Vermont instead of where she came from.
Gabrielle and Boone's story is very sweet, and I really enjoyed the slow build of their relationship. It was also sweet to see them both grow and change as their relationship progresses. One of my favorites parts of this series is how all of the girls continue to communicate with one another.
This one was just… okay. The premise had potential and the ideas behind the story were decent, but the execution fell flat for me. The plot never fully drew me in, and the characters lacked the depth or spark to make me truly invested in their journey.
It wasn’t a bad read, but it didn’t leave much of an impression either.
A true marriage cannot work unless it has trust! Once both Gabrielle and Bone started truly conversing with each other then they started their true marriage. Love only works when both are being real with each other.
This was a great story. It fell together nicely. It started out as a sad story and progresses to where i loved the ending especially. God sure does work miracles.
After the textile mill fire and the lack of employment to be found Gabrielle contacted her mother, and when she learned that her step-father had left the home permanently, she decided to move back home with her mother in Vermont. However, things were not well and Gabrielle eventually had to become a mail-order bride.
Gabrielle had very strict stipulations in what she was looking for in a husband. She didn’t want to have a physical closeness or consummation of the marriage. She was willing to cook, clean, do chores and help out on the ranch and offer companionship, but not a physical relationship.
Boone had lived a lonely life raising his son after the death of his first wife. After his son left home, he realized how lonely he was and believed that having a wife for companionship would be the way to go. He didn’t need a physical relationship to fulfill his needs and preferred not to have one since he was still in love with his deceased wife.
I really did enjoy this story, though sometimes, it felt like they were hanging onto their beliefs for far too long and not openly communicating and actually moving forward in their relationship. I got tired of the back & forth. I really did like all of these characters.
Each bringing emotional baggage into their relationship, Gabrielle and Boone first have a lot in common with their joint desire for a marriage in name only. They each grow closer to the other than they originally intended, but the past keeps interfering. An almost family tragedy and renewal of faith helps them decide their future in this sweet Christian romance.
Rating 2.5. This was a simple mail-order bride story that seemed almost novella length to me. My problem with the story was (a) I did not believe Gabriella's sudden change of heart once her mother died and (b) I never bought the premise of two people seeking a business relationship--not because these ideas are inherently unbelieveable but because the story did not being me to believe.
This story seems to help me recognise the ways God helped us see what we are really thinking and what is actually happening. Once each Gabrielle and her man could see past their fear and anger they both saw things differently. Then they could love each other. I loved the story.
Always a blessing to read about old and new friends. Excellent job with outstanding characters who have been well loved and yet have such devastating happenings in their lives. Wow, just wow.
Good story of forgiveness and redemption. I like the unusual twist of their marriage in the beginning. Kind of bothered me that the title says Bride of Vermont and should be bride of Texas since that's where she went to be married... Not a real biggie.
This series was my first experience with multiple authors working together to write a series on a large scale. I enjoyed every book in the series and found several new authors that I hadn't read before.
