Rachel: Bride of New Hampshire is 9th in the unprecedented 50-book American Mail-Order Brides series. Each are stand-alone books that may be read in any order.
RACHEL: BRIDE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE Thomas Buchanan feels deceived when the homely mail-order bride he asked for is a beauty—a fact she patently denies. Rachel West is reluctant to marry in the first place so a reprieve is good news. Can they work their way back from a bad beginning to find they belong together after all?
Diane Darcy loves to read and write lighthearted and funny books. She’s a member of the Heart of the West, and RWA. She was a finalist for Romance Writers of America's Golden Heart® Award. She’s written romantic comedies in several different genres; some historical, some contemporary, all lighthearted and fun. She makes her home in Utah with her family and dogs, and is hard at work on her next book.
Another fun addition to the series. I liked that this one was a little different, after Thomas sends for a wife he turns her away the second she arrives because she is too pretty. He specifically asked for a homely wife. The rest of the book is him realizing his mistake and trying to win her back. I'm a big fan of Diane Darcy, it was actually through stalking following her that I found out about this whole series, so I was really looking forward to her book. I liked Rachel and Thomas and was happy to see their story unfold.

This book in the American Mail Order Brides series is about a woman who lost trust in men and lost her job when the factory burned. The man wants a wife who is homely, quite off-putting to most women. The author writes with a clear style and creates a good believable story. I just wish she wrote more stories about the townspeople. It's a shame to create a wonderful setting and interesting characters and never tell the stories of the secondary characters.
I love how Miss Rachel West's temperament matches her fiery red hair. Even more so, I love how the handsome, wounded Mr. Buchanan has no idea what to think about or do with her. Sir Lancelot is an added bonus. I love the development of Rachel and Thomas's relationship and the fun meddling of those around them. This is a wonderful, welcome addition to the series.

Warm and interesting read. I've enjoyed this series. Onto the next one.
I enjoyed this one a lot, the cat helped the storyline a lot too! I really impressed that all of the authors managed to make this series so much fun to read!
I really enjoyed this one! Rachel and Thomas were well suited and I enjoyed how the story was written. I also love that there is an ugly cat! I’ve never read this author before, but I hope to read more of her books in the future.
I truly enjoyed this story. The author has done a great job of telling her story. The story of adventure, romance, and suspense is a well laid out tale.
Rachel and Thomas. Another cute historical romance in the American Mail-Order Bride Series. Enjoyed reading it though some parts just took too long. Good book though. Can't wait to read book #10.
I truly loved the story. Both characters had issues they needed to deal with before they realized how much they loved each other. Both were stubborn, admitted to themselves, but not each other that they were falling in love. To go from mail order bride,to governess to clerk in a store and finally to being a bride.
Rachel: Bride of New Hampshire (American Mail-Order Bride #9) By: Diane Darcy 4/5 stars
Rachel never wanted to have to depend on a man to live and doesn’t want her last chance to be marriage. She has major trust issues with men. But after the fire at the Brown Textiles Mill and all job options were exhausted, she reluctantly decided to answer a groom’s letter, even though she doesn’t meet one specific requirement.
Thomas Buchanan specifically wanted a homely bride for a couple of reasons. Due to the betrayal of his first wife, he wanted a woman who would feel lucky to be married to him and one who wouldn’t turn another man’s eye. When he sees that his mail-order bride deceived him, he refuses to marry her.
But Thomas employs Rachel as his daughter’s governess, until he can find a different wife. But during their time together, they realize that they have an attraction. There are many ups and downs in their working relationship as well as their possible romantic relationship.
Even though the author wrote a story that I'm sure entertained others, this just didn't work for me. She didn't want to be a mail order bride, but did so out of necessity. He requested an "ugly" woman for his wife-to-be, something which I found distasteful, because his reasoning was that if she was ugly, she wouldn't leave him for another man. I just couldn't find anything redeeming about their "romance". 2 stars for what I did read - I could not finish this one.
Rachel is another of the factory workers who is out of a job after the fire and out of options in general. Going to New Hampshire as a mail order bride provides her with many options including not getting married.
I am reading these in order. The author did a good job in continuity with the other stories. It definitely is a different twist in the mail order bride story.
I've read a couple of other books by Diane Darcy so I looked forward to reading her book in this series. This story is a little different than the others I've read so far. Rachel doesn't want to be a mail-order-bride, but has no other options, and her groom doesn't really want to marry again, so he asks for a "homely" bride. These two people have one misunderstanding/miscommunication after another before they finally unlock their hearts to let love in again.
This is a nice twist on the mail-order bride idea. Thomas sends for an "ugly" bride, and no one is interested in his letter. The only option for Rachel, she sets out to meet him. Thomas refuses her because she's way too attractive. And then regrets it. Ah, that's a good beginning to working it out.
Rating 4 stars--maybe even 4.5. I am kind of intrigued by the idea of 50 mail order brides--one for every state in the union. I happened upon this because I like Diane Darcy's stories so I decided to give it a chance. It is a sweet, clean romance and I really liked the characters. I enjoyed the love story! Now I need to go find out what happened with Violet.
This book tells the story of a bride and groom who have both suffered betrayal and have a hard time trusting one another. There are also several misunderstandings that provide obstacles on their path to true love. This is a delightful contribution to this 50 book series. Plus, it took place in New Hampshire.
I really enjoyed this story. I liked seeing how Rachel and Thomas developed a love and trust for each other. The side characters also made the story enjoyable. Everyone needs a behind the scenes matchmaker.
Rachel is a reluctant bride who finds a reluctant groom at the end of her journey. You can only guess things eventually work out. They keep going back and forth figuring it out. I have enjoyed all the mail order brides stories so far.
This series was my first experience with multiple authors working together to write a series on a large scale. I enjoyed every book in the series and found several new authors that I hadn't read before.
This was just not a favorite story of mine in the series. Rachel was wishy washy and her groom was a JERK. I just did not enjoy the characters in this book.
