The MIMS Consultation Guide is a clinical reference book from the publishers of MIMS and GP magazine.
This resource provides more than 260 pages of quick-reference material, organised into A-Z sections covering all aspects of a typical patient consultation.
Written by Buckinghamshire GP Dr Raj Thakkar and reviewed by Worcestershire GP Dr Katrina Ford, ensuring a practical, patient-centred approach to the challenges of daily practice.
The guide is divided into three well-defined signs and symptoms, investigations and diseases. The signs and symptoms chapter can be used as a rapid reference guide to all of the possible differential diagnoses, which are also covered in depth in the diseases chapter.
The investigations chapter provides accessible information on all of the tests you might need to request and guidance on interpreting their results.
The diseases chapter outlines clinical features, investigations and management of diseases, genetic conditions and syndromes seen in daily practice.
The chapters may be used independently or in conjunction with each other when managing patients on the ward or in the GP surgery.
There is a list of abbreviations and acronyms at the beginning of the book and the appendices include clinical tools, such as algorithms and scores, ECGs, a section on emergencies, for example life-support algorithms, and a palliative care section. The guide is aimed at GPs, GPs in training, foundations doctors, nurses, pharmacists and medical students.
