A hailstorm of bombs has blasted the world into a nuclear winter. The survivors have now spent seven long years in the snow and ash scratching out a lonely, hard existence. Although comfortable in her safe and supplied bunker, Skylar Ross longed for more of a life than what she has. She thought she found it when she rescued Rex but the evil that followed him inside her home threatened the one person she holds most dear. Can she put aside her mistrust of others and give him and his people a second chance?
Rex Larson fell hard for Skylar and was excited about his group joining her in the safety of her bunker until he was betrayed by one of his own. Exiled back out into the cold, he prays that Skylar will change her mind.
Forced to flee the town when a deadly gang moves in, the survivors huddle in the cold hoping the gang won’t find them and for Skylar to change her mind. When the weather turns for the first time in seven years, they don’t know if it means the earth is starting to heal or if it’s just more ruin.
Theresa Shaver lives in South Central Alberta Canada. As an avid reader, I used to dream about writing and sharing my own stories with the world. Publishing was a far off and intimidating goal until Amazon opened the gates! I love that I get real feed back from my fans on my books instead of some guy behind a desk who studies market trends. I write to share my dreams with the world and now I can. My first series is a Young Adult Post-apocalypse story. I love writing about the growth of characters faced with such huge challenges and plan to continue future stories in wrecked worlds. It's a new do it yourself world in so many industries so never stop believing in your dreams and do it yourself!
I slipped right into the story like no time had passed between the first book and this one. I LOVE these characters! Very anxiously awaiting the next installment. Thumbs up!!
This book started okay. Then went all "everybody getting along because we're all good people" kind of sappy, but fine, I like a feel-good book. Then it turns to horror which is sometimes what is found in dystopian books, so okay. But then it has an awful cliffhanger ending that I hated and the rating went down fast.
And then to top it all off, the 3rd book in the series that was supposed to be published in the Summer of 2016 is nowhere as is the author - who has fallen off the face of the Earth for the last two years - she's not on her Facebook, Goodreads or her own website. Now, I'll feel awful if she had a serious illness or a horrible personal event but if it's not for a good reason, I'm a little upset. So 2-1/2 stars.
Great story, loved it as much as the first and read it in one sitting! The storyline stayed interesting the entire way through. I can't wait for the next book!
This one wasn't as good of a story as the first one. And there were still a LOT of spelling and grammatical errors. I'm still interested to see how the series ends, but I'm not as excited about it as I was after book 1.
I don't appreciate the way the author is having readers pay for this book. I've made two payments and still don't have the entire book - I will not be finishing this. Please leave 'in-app' purchases to the gamers.
Great story looking forward to the next book in the series. I read a lot of post apocalyptic book and this series rates at the top along with Ms Shavers Stranded series
Rain and Ruin (Endless Winter #2) — Theresa Shaver (Prologue + 28 chapters) January 13-15, 2020
This felt more like a set-up book…for what, I’m not sure. The reader is brought along for the ride that feels like it covers a lot more days than it does….maybe a week at the most. Now that Rex and Matty have been inside the man-cave, they want the rest of their family inside too. The whole book is about how Rex's and Sky's family become one, although the ending is literally a cliffhanger. Towards the end of the book, there are some intense and violent, if not perceived, icky parts.
Weakest book of the set yet. It was OK but mostly meh.
Carries on where the first novel left. The book itself doesn't cover a long period of time, which led to a shorter novel. The opening immediately raised suspicion about what might come in the future. I thought the end was not as good as the ending of the first novel.
Skylar breaks her own rule and saves two boys. It is Rex and his brother. She takes the whole group in to save them but bad things come with them. The story gets more complex in this book mainly due to teenagers and relationships. Watching how they grow and change is like being there. Shaver does an excellent job of understanding and conveying the human condition.
Great continuation to the saga. Love story between Skylar and Rex continues and jealousy ensues. Lance and Ethan continue to play strong father figures. Skylar struggles with the circumstances she's forced to endure. Love the ending can't wait for book three.
I loved these books but if this is all there is the ending sucks. It just stopped no resolution at all. If this is how the author ends all of their books thanks but no thanks
This is another one from an end of the world series, not as realistic as some I have read, but I like the characters better. It was entertaining at least.
I found it silly that the charactwrs are still making such rookie mistakes 7 years into the apocalypse but other then that the book was a quick easy read full of action.
The teenage angst continues. And while I would like to think in an ideal world it would be true, the adults willing to respect the authority and autonomy of a teenager when their survival is at stake seems unrealistic. The appearance of a new, major character at the end was very predictable. At least this was a short book
This was my first Apocalyptic novel and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed reading it! The characters are realistic along with a strong story line. I am so looking forward to reading all this author's novels!
The second book was just as good as the first! Very well done! The storyline has continued in its uniqueness, and it just continues to pull the reader in. My biggest complaint would be it's too short! Seriously, I read this in one evening. I no more than started and I felt like it was already over. The timeline issues from the first book are completely gone in this second book. There are still some grammar and spelling type issues, the biggest ones I saw were a few times where a word is intended to be used after another in a sentence and instead it's before and after. You can get what is meant in the sentence once you reread; it's just a little annoying and detracts from the story a bit.
Overall, I'm so glad I went ahead a got the second book. I definitely will be getting the third at some point. Hopefully soon.
This book focuses on the coming together of Skyler and Ben with the survivors from the nearby town and the beginnings of preparing for a new life outside the shelter. It ends with a new threat to the group which has me eager for the next installment in this very interesting series. Recommended.
I finished Ash & Smoke and immediately picked up Rain & Ruin. It was so good, I did not want to put it down. Just when you think that things are starting to improve another twist is thrown in to plan. I hope I don't have to wait too long for book 3. I am anxiously waiting to see what happens!
If you like books about what happens after a nuclear event -- this book is great. The main characters are teenagers dealing with typical teenaged things, but based on their lives post nuclear. Hard to picture life then, but enjoyed it and will recommend for my teenaged son.
Loved this one too, I can't say enough good things about Theresa Shaver s books. I have loved both series I have read . The only bad thing I can say is I hate waiting on the next one.
