In 1877 the Wenghold sisters inherited an overwhelming debt with their father’s passing. An uncle they’ve never met offers a solution—come help on his Kansas cattle ranch. The oldest sister, Robin, agrees to go.
Ty Morgan has suffered through a year of misery after being jilted by the town beauty a few months before their wedding. But a tornado whirls an unexpected breath of hope into his heart when he rescues Robin, his neighbor’s newly arrived niece, and a small boy who was orphaned by the storm.
Robin’s crippled leg prevents her from being a real help to Uncle John, but she seems to be exactly who Ty needs to heal his broken heart. Until his former fiancée returns and a mysterious, elusive stranger casts worry over the entire community.
A woman determined to honor her obligations, a man entangled in a long ago-made commitment, an orphaned child in need of security . . . Can God guide these three souls to peace and fulfillment together?
A wonderful story set in the beautiful Flint Hills. All the characters were enjoyable (even though Anna was quite a selfish beast)! I look forward to reading the next story in the series.
It is interesting to note that for readers of novels, the characters we fall in love with are not those we see with our eyes. We fall in love with them because the author has breathed life into them through the words that are carefully written to evoke a sense of believability in the imagination of the reader. We have no pictures to go off of and it is a movie created in our minds based on what the authors decides to use in their novels.
For Julane Hiebert, she has introduced us to Robin Wenghold, in her debut novel, Robin in the Brides of a Feather Series. Fans of western, romance, and historical genres' will absolutely LOVE this novel, tempered with a bit of Christian principles, namely forgiveness and unconditional love as well as honesty and commitment. Robin finds herself headed west from Chicago to Kansas to settle in with her Uncle John in hopes of earning enough money to send for her sisters to join her since the death of her father leaving them in a financial mountain of debt. What she gets is more than she ever bargained for. She believes she is there to help manage his cattle ranch with helping with the womanly chores, cleaning, cooking and laundry. Yet Uncle John can manage those perfectly. He was hoping to find an extra pair of hands to help manage the ranching duties like his previous wife used to do.
Robin is left in a quandary about what to do. Her physical limitations of walking with a limp prevents her from doing most anything requiring walking, or using her legs. She had hoped for a much different outcome. Her Uncle expected the same and feels that by advertising for a potential husband for Robin might be the solution for them both. She would be married and solve her financial issues and with them living on the ranch, he gets two birds with one stone. Only thing is, Robin isn't in agreement with that. She left one man in Chicago who wanted to do just that, but she is only willing to marry for love, not for convenience. On the arrival to the ranch she is caught in a storm that leaves her with more problems, a young boy who watched his mother die and the man, Ty Morgan who rescues them both. Could he be the answer to all their problems?
I received Robin by Julane Hiebert compliments of Wings of Hope Publishing and Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review aside from a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest and personal evaluation. Since this is the first book in the series, not all of the questions are answered by the time you finish. I believe those will continue with each subsequent novel. However, I did love the relationships that develop first with Robin and Uncle John and then with Robin and Jacob, the young orphan. I love that despite the challenges facing her physically, Robin is undaunted in her ability to succeed. That makes this a winner in my opinion and thus worthy of 4.5 out of 5 stars.
This was a totally new author to me. I'd never heard of Julane Hiebert before. The publisher also was new to me. So I didn't know what to expect when I opened up and started to read Robin. Let me tell you now, this is a wonderful book. I loved it!
Robin is so sweet, but behind her sweet exterior is both a heart of gold and a stubborn streak a mile long. Robin has a leg that is crippled so she walks with a limp. She is supposed to be helping her uncle with his farm to work off the debt her recently deceased father left behind. She is the oldest of three sisters and the other two have remained behind.
When she arrives in the town her uncle's farm is near she's met by no uncle. She waits for him to arrive only to be caught up in a tornado. Welcome to the west! She's rescued by a handsome rancher who happens to be her uncle's neighbor. The two of them head to her uncle's ranch and find an abandoned young boy along the way. Robin is determined to protect and love him. Will her uncle accept an extra mouth to feed?
Uncle John and Jacob(the young boy) get off to an interesting start but are soon fast friends. Meanwhile, what is going on between the handsome Ty(neighbor) and Robin? Poor Robin feels she must prove her worth so she's not sent packing. She tries to do all the barn chores by herself. This definitely made me laugh! I'm a farm girl myself. Well farm wife I guess I should say. I know what's involved with the farm chores and I know if you're not used to them they can be quite intimidating and well body exhausting!
I loved meeting Robin and following her story. Things get super complicating with bad guys and old flames showing up for both Ty and Robin. Then there's a wagon accident and what about little Jacob's family? So much going on. Great mystery and slight suspense while all the while weaving in a great romance.
I highly recommend this book and hope you'll take the time to read it. It also gives you a peek into the next book to come in the series. My mom and I both read Robin and cannot wait to get our hands on Lark and Wren which are the other two books to be released in the series. Based on Robin's two sisters of course, the three little birds.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and not influenced in anyway.
My laundry is still piled up by the washer, my husband had leftovers for dinner, and I stayed up so late coffee was all I could think about, except for Robin, the cause of it all. I’m blaming debut author Julane Hiebert for these little mishaps, but I’m grateful to her from the bottom of my heart for obeying God’s calling to write Robin, the first book in the Brides of a Feather Series.
Reading Robin is like looking at a beautifully woven tapestry of the Kansas Flint Hills. The description of the area is captivating, instilling in the reader’s heart the love of the prairie living in the heart of her characters.
Reading Robin is like watching a mystery unfold before your eyes with no idea how it will end. It is like listening to real conversations from real people with beating hearts and deep-felt emotions. It is like experiencing the fluttering of sweet romance as Robin and Ty surrender their hearts to one another.
Robin is all these things, but even more powerful is the development of the relationships between the characters and God. Each of us, no matter what rung we stand upon of the spiritual growth ladder, experience situations, thoughts and even changes of heart that spur us on toward a higher plane. Ty, Robin, Uncle John, William, Anna, even little Jacob each draw closer to God in their own way through their experiences within these pages, and do so in a manner that readers can feel within their own heart.
I closed the covers of Robin with regret that the book had ended, but also with anticipation for what is to come. I have now met Robin’s sisters, Lark and Wren, and am so looking forward to reading their stories in the coming months. My thanks and admiration to Julane Hiebert for penning a most entertaining, romantic and insightful story of the Kansas Flint Hills.
My Review: Robin Wenghold has been crippled since birth. Everyone has laughed at her and she's tired of it. So when her uncle writes her and her two sisters about needing help, she jumps on a train to Kansas hoping to prove herself and hopefully help pay off her deceased father's debt. Upon arrival she believes that Kansas has something against her; first, her uncle never coming to pick her up; then, a tornado. But all seems well when a very handsome Ty Morgan arrives to get her and deliver her to her uncle.
Ty Morgan finally has made it to a breaking point in his life, a year after his love left him. Robin seems to be a breath of fresh air and he even finds himself drawn to her. On the wagon ride over to the Wenghold ranch, they happen upon an orphan boy, whose mother is dead not that far away. Ty leaves the boy in Robin's care, but wishes for nothing more than to find the boy's father. Everyday he visits Robin and the boy and everyday he seems to want nothing more than to be with them. But one sunday, something unbelievable happens, his old love shows up once more, telling everyone their engagement is back on.
Will Ty ever decide who he truly loves and who he can't live without? Is the boys father closer than it truly seems?
Robin is book one in the Brides of a Feather series. This book had many awesome aspects. I really enjoyed this book and I hope to read the other books in this series.
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.
Robin is a delightful prairie romance. Robin is the oldest of three sisters who lose their parents. She travels to Kansas to live with her Uncle John on his ranch The Feather. When neighbor Ty Morgan picks up Robin at the train station, they get caught in a Kansas twister. Robin finds that life on the prairie is much harder than she expected, but she also finds some unexpected gifts in the people she meets. I just couldn't help rooting for Robin! She has a handicap that makes it hard for her to do a lot of work, but she tries hard to fit in at her new home and helps everyone and brings a much-needed gentle touch to the men on the ranch. The romance was sweet and unhurried and unfolded nicely through the story. One of the things I liked most about this story was that it wasn't just a romance, but had several fun characters who all played a part in the story, on the ranch and in the little town. It makes me want to read the next book in the series to find out what happens to them!
This story, set in the 1877, captivated me from the beginning. The characters were "real" and most were loveable. Those who weren't, I still appreciated. Julane's story was easy to follow and kept me interested all the way through. I purchased the kindle version of Lark, the next in the series, as soon as I finished Robin and continued reading. I love this writer's style and recommend her books.
I truly enjoyed this sweet story and the characters. A friend shared this with me and I'm glad she did. For readers of Christian Romance, be sure to check this one out. Two more books are coming out in 2016 in the series and will be on my list of books to read. Enjoy.
This was my first book by Julane Hiebert, I really enjoyed it!
The characters were well written, likable and the plot was interesting. The only thing that I would complain about would be that to me, the ending seemed to draw out for longer than what was needed.
