Ride #4

Ryker

Rate this book
More than a decade ago, I walked away from Hawthorne Nevada and the only boy I ever loved.

When Piper Owens returns home to care for her father and to try to pick up the pieces following her mother’s death, she needs that boy more than ever.

But Ryker Black isn’t a boy anymore and he’s not interested in reliving the past.

Now a patched member of the Knight’s Motorcycle Club, Ryker has a building threat from another club to worry about.

As Piper fights to rebuild her family's dream and to overcome her loss, can Ryker put aside past hurt in order to build a future?

This is the story of Piper and Ryker. The fourth installment in the Ride Series

Ryker can be read as a stand-alone but it's recommended that you read the other three books in the series first.

* Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

I don’t like second chances and separation that’s too freaking long. I understood though why the heroine broke up with the Hero and the rest of the story when they finally got back together was very sweet. H was a manwhore when they broke up and I’m glad that the h actually dated and slept with other men too during the separation.

When they met again, Ryker (H) was all over Piper (h) and he really pursued her. No cheating since then and Ryker pushed away other women who came on to him. I’m also glad that Piper had a normal life (not abused or some tragic event)

Going into this, I thought this was going to be my favorite of the series. A second chance, loved-you-since-childhood, mc club romance in a series I've been really appreciating and invested in? Should be a slam dunk.

But alas, this ended up being my least favorite of the series. For several reasons. But a death knell moment for the overall enjoyment was when Piper threw down on the club girl.

description

So dumb.
So unwarranted for where they were in their relationship at that moment.
So incongruent with her character.

But anyway, a three star means I still really enjoyed it. I just didn't love it. Still super decent except for the aforementioned moment.

Ryker and Piper - The best book in the series so far. ’s second chance romance felt genuine. The time spent establishing their earlier relationship really gave an emotional depth to their romance that I loved. Plus there’s some genuine danger, and yes it’s a bit damsel in distress-y, but I can deal with it.

General Thoughts on Series
I was cleaning out my kindle (dealing with my TBR list, or as I like to call it, The Mountain) reinforces that I may be a bookhoarder, but on occasion I find some hidden gems on there. I’d gotten the first three books of this series just sitting there, and once I start, I’m compelled to keep going.

I think I’d recommend this series for those who are way into the romance, and just want a touch of the MC life. To paraphrase Wedding Crashers,

“I'm sure you'd love to be free, maybe go out and meet some biker guy that can … make you feel dangerous but also safe.”

THAT’s this series in a nutshell. Yes, there’s some questionable women and some danger, but overall, it’s a comfort kind of read. The WTF-ery level is a 2, at most. The downsides are that alot of the action that leads to the danger, the actual MC stuff, happens off-page because it’s strictly first person POV from the individual heroines. But if that doesn’t bug you and you mostly want some sweet loving with some tattooed bikers, you may enjoy this.

3*** another okay MC book stars...

Even if my rating doesn't make it look like it, I did thoroughly enjoy this second chance book. This is the fourth book in the series, but it was the first book I read by this author. It is a standalone, and you don't feel like you are missing BIG things by not reading the other books before this one.

I'm not a big second chance love person. I tend to avoid those books because I get annoyed by the plot; however, I think this one was done right and it helped me because there was an added element of being an MC book.

Honestly, the story was sweet, the characters were great but it didn't hold up to my SUPER HIGH standards for MC books (blame Tillie Cole, she put them there). I need a MC story that is gritty, dark, dirty, and sexy. This book was not those things. Which is fine for anyone else.

The story had some danger, but it was always in the background.. kinda. The sex was glazed over in three sentences or ignored completely. I think my main problem is it didn't FEEL like an MC book.

At the beginning of this book, I contemplated buying the others in the series to catch up on all the characters. By the end, I decided against it. I am interested in Jill's story. I MAY read that one; we will see.

Ryker and Piper’s story was a fantastic read a lost love and a second chance at happiness, and these two characters deserved it.

Piper walked away from Ryker when they were teenagers knowing he would give up his dreams for hers, not wanting him to miss out on the life that he wanted to live she let him go, never thinking he would cut her from his life so completely. It’s been years since they last talked and she still misses the friendship and the man he was. They were inseparable as children. Piper is back in Hawthorne after her mother’s death to look after her father and make a life for herself, hoping to regain a friendship with Ryker. But he still hasn’t forgiven her for leaving can he ever get over her leaving and give her another chance or should she give up on him completely?

Ryker was destroyed the day Piper walked away, he cut her from his life completely but now she is back in town and as much as he wants to ignore her the love he had has never gone. Now a member of The Knights he has spent the past few years taking advantage of the biker life. But now Piper is home can they reignite what they once had and with the threat of rival M.C hanging over the club’s head can he keep her safe?

With everything that these two characters have suffered through in their childhood they really deserved to find their perfect ending.

4.5 Piper and Ryker Stars

This is such an enjoyable MC romance series.
Book 4 focuses on Piper and Ryker. We have met Ryker in the earlier books and he is Axel's younger brother ( Axel) . He's the biker who is the more laid back , fun uncle and is a bit of a player. Piper and Ryker were friends from the age of 8. They evolved from friends to something more until Piper left. She had her reasons but Ryker never really knew what they were and he thought she was never coming back. When she does return, she gets a frosty reception as all those hurt feelings come bubbling to the surface but soon , all the chemistry they always had wins out and we see a much different side to Ryker. It was great to see the passion and the realisation that Piper absolutely owns his heart.

This novel works as a standalone but it is better to have read the books in order as you get a feel for the dynamics between the group and the sub plot with the rival MC.

Great secondary characters, some decent drama and a gorgeous second chance love story.

HEA? Yes, with a great epilogue.
Cheating? No
Be aware, death of a parent from cancer & theme of child neglect are in this book.

Piper Owens left home in Hawthorne Nevada to give the love of her life Ryker Black a chance to find his own path. Since she could remember it has always been Piper and Ryker but when she returns home he is anything but friendly. Piper regrets her past mistake and wants to find a new normalcy but in order to do that will Ryker be able to forgive her?

This was outstanding. Ryker you want to kick a few times because he is so angry with Piper and once you get to the bottom of her reasonings you get it. Ryker was always a bit of mystery to me in the other books so having his story come full circle was fantastic. Amazing read.

I’m not usually a fan of the second chance romance trope. I only like this type of book if the reason for the original separation was because of things outside of the couple’s control. If it’s because of some silly communication issue I tend to curl my lip up and roll my eyes. Needless to say, I went into Ryker with a slight trepidation but I love The Ride Series so I dove in anyways.

In one way my fears about this book were justified, since I didn’t like the reason why Piper left and it made no sense to me.

Putting the whole reason why she left issue aside, I ended up liking Piper. She was in a tough situation trying to get her Dad out of his obvious depression and getting the family business back up and running. She handled it as best she could, and kept on going, no matter how tough things got – trigger warning.View Spoiler »

Ryker I ended up loving. He was the typical alpha badass biker hero, and I adored that about him. I especially liked the fact he didn’t leave her swinging for long over a decision she made years before when she was practically a kid. Truth be told, with this type of second chance romance trope, I always wonder why the person left didn’t fight harder for the love of their life, which is probably one of the reasons this type of scenario doesn’t usually work for me. They both have to own up to their issues for me to believe in their reconciliation.

There is lots of action in this book and the women of the club are once again the ones in the crosshairs. You’d think the bad guys of the world would figure out that maybe messing with the Knight’s women isn’t a healthy idea.

I enjoyed seeing the couples from past books. Megan O’Brien does a great job of giving us plenty of time with our favorite characters without distracting us from the main characters’ story. She seamlessly works them into the current story giving us insight into their continuing stories and I love that about this series. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the Knights MC next.

A sweet biker-lite second chance romance. I'm so glad the author kept the angst on the low down and allowed the characters to behave like adults and also kept the push and pull virtually right out of the equation.

Loved it.

4.5 stars, again losing that 5th star for fading to black on some of the passionate bits - why do that??!!

Other than that I really love this series.

Not a bad story. I liked it but felt more could have come from it. I really didn't feel the big issue with the other biker club was played out well into this story. I wanted to see more threat and action. Not Ryker keeping her under lock and key and riding off to take care of it- which doesn't allow us as the reader to see what happens- then he comes home and life goes on.

There where a few things that bothered me though. First off, she did not go into detail on how they stopped the other club overnight! And Second it was a little boring in places.

In saying that this was a very enjoyable read and I'm excited for Cal and Jill's Story which is next up.

Ryker by Megan O'Brien was probably my favourite of this series. A second chance with your first love is always romantic. An all around light read, this not being as did dramatic as the previous three, save for one scene. The angst was definitely lower this time around and I didn't mind at all. Think I'm done with the MC front for now, but I did enjoy meeting all the hotties O'Brien created.

What a ride!

I’ve been re-reading this series again to try remember what happened before starting Max, the second generation book but for the life of me I must have forgotten to read Ryker and Cal’s stories the first time! I absolutely loved that Ryker ends up with his childhood sweetheart, Piper! They are absolutely amazing together but also how they support each other through the hard times, ensuring this second chance at love and a relationship will work out better than the first time:)

Great read and loved the epilogue!

Loved Piper and Ry as a couple but maybe I should have taken a breather before diving straight into their story. I’ve read 3 books from the Ride series over a couple of days.

Loved the epilogue and there’s a part of me that wished we could have lived through the five years of bliss between the last chapter and the epilogue.

Adding Cal and Jill’s book to my wish/must read next list!

I have to be honest. I love these series. But this one is probably the least I liked. First I'm not much into second chances. I agree, they can be sometimes one of the best stories ever. But here...

I can take the fact, that she/he needed to leave him/her in the past. But I need the reason to be important. Not some weak excuses. I hate them. And Pipers reason to leave Ryker is feeble one. At least for me. Not good enough. That I would be like 'Oh. It's not right. But I understand her/him.' I completely didn't understood Pipers reasonings.

And Pipers reactions to him after she come back.... Honestly, I was annoyed with her. Yes, feelings can't just switch off when you feel to do it. But Piper was to washy for my liking. You move on. Or you fight work what you are breathing get for, to the last breath. And she was not here, not there. Piper was insecure and lost. Maybe partly that got to do with her loss and consequences after it. But I still wished she chosen one path to go.

But that they separated for so long, wasn't only on her shoulders. Ryker has a touch in it, too. He let his pride to control his actions, instead of fighting for what was his. I have no doubt that if he followed her and fought, they would have rode another road.

And after these years, Pipers back and he was holding himself back. Ryker still wants Piper. You can see that. There's no doubt for me. But his pride/past is still holding him from stepping into the future. He was like 'I want her. But I don't want her. But I want her.' If you know what I mean.

So, you could imagine my joy when they finally, freakn finally got themselves in hand. And become an item. It was beautiful. And finally I got what I was looking for in the story. Connection. Love. Togetherness. Family.

This is not only about second chances love story. There's danger lurking for the club and theirs family. And I'm not sure how much damage will be done to them, before war will be over and peace come into the club.

Ride of the 3.5 stars.

I returned to this book after a couple weeks detour and I loved it. I enjoyed the other books, but I think this one and Cole are tied for my favorite. Though, I do hope that Cal and Julie have their stories told.

I loved the 'meant to be' plot device that surrounded Ryker and Piper. Friends since they were younger, drama separated them and then they find their way back to one another. I love love love that we didn't have to watch their romance build. They grew up loving and protecting each other.

The story continues with Ryker & Piper, and for some reason I just lost interest and it never really grabbed me. This might be self induced and I am just in a book funk, but I didn't feel the chemistry or anything between the two H/h. The story line was decent, nothing new or exciting, but the ending/epilogue was really good and the reason for the 3 stars instead of 2.
