The Assignment by M.S. Parker is the first book in the Hero: Special Forces Romance series. Unlike the majority of romance series this one does not change characters throughout but continues the story of the original couple along with cliffhangers leading from book to book so they do need to be read in order.

Special Forces soldier, Haze Welch  is the lead of this series. Haze has known nothing but serving his country and had no plans to leave the military but when he is injured saving a fellow soldier Haze finds he cannot return to duty. The soldier Haze saved is a member of a wealthy family and to honor Haze for his service his grandfather hires him for personal security for his granddaughter, Leighton.

Now I have much respect for our military so I was hoping that in exchange for this particular soldier's sacrifices he would find love with an amazing woman...wrong. Leighton is the reason this is a two star read for me as she is a spoiled, self-centered, brat of a socialite that was only concerned with her partying. Annoying. So needless to say I wasn't a fan of this one not liking half the couple in question so cliffhanger or not I will pass on the rest of the story.

Horrible

I almost NEVER leave reviews on bad books, seeing as they aren't really worth the time spent writing one. Well this, I HAD to. I don't want anyone else to be suckered into reading this book, if you can even call it that.

The main character, Leighton, ugh, please if I never have to read a book with suck a snotty spoiled self entitled slutty character again, I would be one happy person. All she did was have sex, get drunk, do drugs, allow her on-again / off-again boyfriend to cheat on her, COMPLAIN, take him back, have sex again for the attention, then whine that no one takes her seriously. The main male character was actually very well written. I like him, felt sorry for him, in a way. But please, who has a "mindless f***" and falls in love because of some connection. A connection that was NEVER truly described, so I was a bit confused.

I FORCED myself to complete this crap, as I had held a slight hope that perhaps the story line would eventually turn around and I would start to enjoy it, but no, 50% left to make that change turned into 18% left, and I realized then, I had wasted an hour and a half of my life that I will never get back. I won't lie, I had to skim over a few parts, that seemed to have been dragged out, purely to keep the word count up.

The "book" really isn't even long enough to really be called a book, more like an annoying cliff hanger novella. To be honest, it's not even worth reading the others in this 'series' for FREE on KU. I'm glad I did t waste my money on this embarrassment.

All these 4 or more star ratings are very hard for me to understand. People that rated that high must've never read a decent NOVEL in their life and got excited and the limited lackluster sex scenes. Ugh. I'm just beyond irritated now, I most definitely will NOT be reading at thing written by this author, and I use the term 'author' lightly.

I loved this book "Hero" by M.S. Parker. Haze is a special forces Sargeant on leave when he first meets the spoiled rich girl Leighton. She needed saving and her jerk of a boyfriend was no where to be found. Years later, fate brings them together after Haze saves her brother during an attack overseas. Haze has serious injuries which take him away his job and his life as he knew it.

""He came out of nowhere like a tank...The guerrilla who shot me, guy took him out with one shot. Lifted me like a duffel bag. I blacked out...The report says he save me from the explosion that killed two more men in my unit."

Leighton has put up with her cheating spoiled rich kid boyfriend for years now and when Haze appears back in her life, she is not sure what to make of it. She is too busy getting drunk and high and spending her inheritance to think too much about him.

""The drummer was now weilding his stool like a club and chasing the front man back and forth across the stage. All of that, I assmed was real. I was pretty sure the koala bear riding on the drummer's back, however, was just the drugs."

"The problem was, all I could think about was him, us, our bodies fitted tight together, my hollow thoughts filled by those dark brown eyes.."

"Hell, it was in writing, in Haze's ...job description to save me from my own irrational and unsafe thinking."

"She needed a purpose, a goal, but it wasn't up to me to help her find those things. It was up to me to make sure she was safe. That was it."

I just love the characters in this book, Leighton's cheating boyfriend and Paris are made for eachother, Haze tries to keep his feelings in check while Leighton does everything to make him crack. Grandfather is a wise man with a heart of gold when it comes to his grandkids.

Can't wait for the next chapter is this story, once you start this one make sure you have the time to finish it. You won't want to put it down!

This book was gifted by the author for an honest review.

Just when you think MS Parker's books cannot get any hotter she gives us Hero, just the cover alone is drool worthy, and once you dive into the story Haze will capture your heart and longings.

Haze has to be one of my favorites of MS Parker, I mean after all he is a man in uniform and who can resist that.

Leighton is a rich, privillage girl who has it all and wants to rid herself of the strings her grandfather has her on.

Leighton and Haze share one night of amazing, off the charts sex, only for him to leave her without even a goodbye, just some cab money and a note, this was after he saved her from drowning and spent the night with her to make sure she did not have a concussion. What are the odds that four years later Haze would save the life of Leighton's brother. Haze may have survived the attack but he is unable to return to active duty due to his injuries being permenate.

Four years they happen to meet again when Leighton's grandfather hires Haze as her bodygruard (he wants to help Haze after saving his grandson). Both Haze and Leighton think that the other does not remember the amzing noght they spent together, even though Haze has thought of no other women since Leighton, watch as the sexual tension between these two tops the charts.

When Haze has had enough of Leighton and wants to quit, the grandfather will not let him when he drops a bomb of information to Haze.

Cannot wait for book two I need it NOW please.

This is incredible M.S. Parker has honestly blown me away with this one. I was captivated right from the beginning and unable to put it down.

Hero had me glued to my e-reader the entire time. Leighton and Haze are two amazing characters that are incredibly complex with incredible chemistry. Leighton is definitely trying to fight her attraction to Haze but honestly it's a losing battle. Leighton initially meets our Hero when she gets injured at a party and he saves her for the first time. These two end up with one hot night together and never see each other again but can't seem to stop thinking about each other. I can't tell you how incredible this story is it literally grabs you and sucks you in. The storyline is so intriguing and emotionally charged it's like a supercharged roller-coaster. Just when you think you have it figured out M.S. Parker throws in this incredible twist and keeps you guessing all over again.

If this first book was any indication of how this series is going to go we are in for one hell of a ride. And I for one can't wait to see where it's going. M.S. Parker threw in this crazy twist at the end, she launched us off the proverbial cliff but glutton for punishment as we are it left us salivating for the next installment!

The story starts with Leighton. A rich spoilt girl. She has lost both her parents a year before. whilst partying with her best friend Paris. She gets knocked into the pool by her boyfriend Ricky. I don't like him at all. She gets rescued by the gorgeous Haze.
they spend one fantastic night of passion together. In the morning Haze has gone!

Fast forward four years Leighton's brother is injured in the line of duty. Only to be saved by the one and only Haze.

Leighton's grandfather is so grateful he pays for Haze to be treated at a private hospital. Both Leighton's brother Ian and Haze are honourably discharged from the military.

Haze is offered a job, to be a bodyguard/babysitter to Leighton by her grandfather.
Both of them over the years have not managed to forget that one night together.
This is where we see the bitchy side of Leighton. Haze tries to stay professional.
Not sure how M S Parker is going to go with this story.
All I will say is by the time the first book is finished. Leighton sees another side to Paris and Ricky!
Haze also knows he has to stay and protect Leighton. Book two is sure to have some fireworks in.

M.S Parker does it yet again! She never fails to amaze with yet another HOT series that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is the military based romance for Parker and she is right on.

When a one night hook up turns into an extended babysitting/body guard job for Blaze, he is more determined than ever to get back to active duty. His battlefield injury is what is holding him back. When he heroically saved a new recruit and nearly died at the same time, little did he know how dramatically his life would change.

Leighton has been in a downward spiral since her parent’s death. That one night when her Hero saved her life was magical, she cannot stop thinking about him. Until the day he shows up to be her new bodyguard. Her overprotective grandfather has gone too far this time and she will do everything to get him to quit.

I cannot wait until the next book to see where these two end up.

Hot damn!!! Haze is this hot army special force that will blow your socks or panties off!!!

He is your dream guy!! Want a MAN in uniform, this would be the perfect guy.

Leighton is this rich girl that lost her parents in a horrible accident and all she seems to be wanting and needing is someone to show they do love her and won't leave her. Haze would have been that guy til he left her after she feel in the pool and was suppose to look after her.

I could see where he was coming from. On leave and saving a girls life that he found he had a strong connection with and he wasn't even from LA. Odds of seeing her ever again? Not so much.

He brother saved by him later on after he joined the army brought them together.

I wish they would be just hook back up again soon haha. Don't want to spoil all the good parts but this book OMG!!! Is it December yet??? Come on book 3!!!

I would love to see/be inside M.S. Parker's brain to watch her creativity grow with each book.......she comes up with the most AMAZING stories!!! LOL

Haze - gorgeous military guy that gets hurt and sent home. He has a sometimes severe case of vertigo which will prevent him from returning to the military. He accepts a position to be a body guard with the hope that it'll prove he's okay and can eventually return to his career.

Leighton - rich girl who likes to be the party girl much to her grandfather's chagrin. She lives with her grandfather after the death of her parent and he just wants her protected.

Grandfather hires a babysitter/body guard for her....the nerve of him! Leighton is going to make sure this guy's life miserable!! Until she meets him.........

I look forward to reading the next book in this series, it's gonna be a good one!

I absolutely loved this book. The minute Haze saved Leighton I knew they had something special. With having to watch her to see if she had a concussion, Haze brought her back to his place since her no good sometimes boyfriend fled. Leighton wanted Haze and passion ignited only to have Haze leaving her without saying goodbye. With Haze being a special forces soldier he left Leighton and they haven't seen each other in 3 1/2 yrs and both play it off like that night meant nothing. Haze wanting to quit, her grandfather who hired Haze won't allow because now Leighton is danger. Will Haze be hero or will he leave Leighton alone? I am so excited to see what's happens next

All Leighton's money can't fill the hole in her heart that was created when her parents died. All she has left are a brother and grandfather. Leighton tries to keep her mind busy with LA parties, booze, drugs and shopping. She has a boyfriend who uses her and makes her feel worthless. When she almost drowns, it's a stranger who saves her and watches over her until he until he is sure she is safe. Four years later, in a twist of fate, their paths cross again. Which girl will Haze meet? The party girl or broken-hearted girl? Book 1 is only the beginning. I can't wait for M.S. Parker's book 2 of Hero.

Leighton has it all. Everything but her grandfather's respect; or so she thinks. This millionaire of a grandfather decides it's time to give her a bodyguard. One who saved her brother's life in the line of duty.

Hot, ex-special forces and a memory to Leighton from years ago, Haze is determined to be professional. Can he keep her safe? Will they pretend their night of passion didn't rate? Will she cut him any slack? Will Haze come clean? Will her grandfather figure it out? MS Parker's Hero: The Assignment was a fantastic read.

All Haze has ever wanted to do was to serve his country. That is exactly what he was doing until he was hurt on duty, then his world was turned upside down. At the same time Leighton was partying it up, not caring about what the next day holds just living in the moment. Her grandfather knew she needed to change her ways and as a result hired a bodyguard for her. Can Haze learn to live again as a civilian and will Leighton see that there is more to life than partying and drugs? This is a great first book in this new series. I loved every minute!

When Haze meets Leighton she is a spoiled brat. Seriously. Later when they reconnect she has been dealing with a cheater richie boyfriend for way too long and is partying her tail off to forget it. Trying not to care about anything. She and Haze had shared a night together after he saves her ages ago and now she doesn't know what to think of him. They are both fighting what they feel for each other. Then there's that whole twisty cliffhanger at the end. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I give Hero: The Assignment 4 hearts!

Wow!

So starting the story I was in the MS Parker zone. Had her signature style of writing. I fell in love with with Leighton. I fell in lust with Haze. Together their spark was amazing. (On a separate side note, I'd love to see a novela or stand alone about Leighton's brother, Ian).

The cliffhanger? OMG!!! The last 20% of the story is amazing!!! Things get gooooood!!

Ugh

I slogged through this moronic book, only to get to the end and realize this continues in another book. My life is too short to read about a trashy, self-absorbed, too rich girl, who has no purpose in life. I already live in LA, I don't need more exposure to "stardom".

Not for me

I really liked Haze, but couldn't stand the other characters at all. Juvenile and stupid. Sorry to write a bad review but this book could not keep my interest..didn't even get half way through it.

Haze Welch is everybody's type of hero. Strong, dedicated, loyal and did I mention sexy?
Leighton Machus is everyone's idea of spoiled rich party girl. Self absorbed, an air of entitlement, and devil may care attitude. These meet when Leighton falls in a pool and Haze jumps in to save her. One heated night together and he is gone when she wakes.

Four years later the unforgettable night they had together still haunts them both. After being injured while saving Leighton's brother, Haze and Ian are both sent home. Both are determined to get better and get back to their mission. Haze takes a job as Leighton's bodyguard. She is still stinging from the way he left and make his job immeasurably harder. What she does not know is that she is being threatened by an unknown stalker.
The tension between Haze and Leighton is palpable. Both sexual and emotional. Her grandfather just wants her to be safe and to grow up.
Haze just wants her safety and to claim her as his. Her friends just want whatever is best for themselves. Leighton has no real idea of what she wants. And it seems the stalker wants her dead.

Haze has known he would be military all the men in his family are. He is Special Forces and on an 18 month tour when he is injured saving another soldiers life. Due to his injuries he is not able to return to active duty. Knowing he won't be content riding a desk he takes a job in LA as a bodyguard for Leighton, hired by her Grandfather. Until they come face to face neither realize they have met once before. Haze is going to use the job to prove he is healed and can return to duty. Leighton sets out to party and live it up despite her shadow.

Haze is broody but oh so sexy. Leighton is definitely a spoiled little rich girl with friends who are even worse. I absolutely hated that she was always letting the boyfriends "indiscretions" slide. The open relationship was very one sided. I am hoping in the next book we will see some maturity start to develop. This was an easy read that kept my attention right to the last page. Can't wait to start the next in the series.

I loved the way the beginning of the book gives the backstory of the soldiers and how their everyday lives at the time started a connection for the future they couldn't possibly know would come full circle. Not only that, it also shows the emotional play of a vet who doesn't want to be "put out to pasture" but only do what they consider to be their patriotic duty. Leighton and Haze are so wonderfully matched in the way this story builds... by all appearances, irresponsible party girl vs straight laced honorable soldier with morals. I can't wait to start the next one to see how this plays out.

Loved this book I have read nearly all M S Parkers books but this one just got to me. Haze saves her from drowning then leaves her, several years later the special forces soldier saves a man while on duty which just happened to be the girls brother. He accepted a job as a bodyguard for the soldiers sister who was the same girl. It was very intriguing who was threatening her life never thinking it was who it was.

Self Indulgence at its best

One of the worst books i have ever read. A lot of shallow characters that use sex and drugs to get by. Ricky is a jerk, Paris is jealous, Leighton is lost and Hayes is damaged. Not much depth to the charts and as slow as molasses to get to point. I bet either Ricky or Paris is behind the kidnapping in Book 3. Money talks. Maybe Leighton will have her life kind of figured out and her legs a little less open for business.

Good story

I enjoy a good story. I don't like characters that are supposed to be grown but act like children. The hero and heroine are suppose to have this deep connection but act like kids instead of adults
