This was such a neat little book! And I guess I am the first person in the history of Goodreads to review it!

I think I found this book on a “free books” shelf in seminary. It caught my eye because Abraham has always been such a complex character to me. I want to love him. I want to view him as the man of faith that the NT lauds him as. But it’s hard. It’s hard for me to see past all of his MANY flaws to the man of faith and seeker of God that he was.

Getz helped me view Abraham in a more charitable light. Sure, he made some stupid mistakes. But he learned. And his walk with God was always an upward trend. I do not envy some of the decisions and risks that God called Abraham to make. Any pilgrim on the journey of faith today can learn a lot from Abraham’s radical trust in God despite all the obstacles that stood in the way to that trust.

This book makes the life of Abraham tangible and practical for Christians living thousands of years removed from this great saint. Whether this book or another, I believe walking alongside Abraham and journeying with him as he learned many lessons of faith would do much good for modern believers such as you and me!
