Primary Source presents Jason Schneiderman's most exuberant volume of poetry, as he plays with the literary canon and explores his own personal archive. Starting with rewritten lyrics that put Cole Porter's "You're the Top" squarely in po-biz, Schneiderman takes on everyone from Shakespeare to Ashbery, making stops along the personal and the political, and interrogating ideas of race, sexuality, and love. Playful and profound, Schneiderman's light touch is guaranteed to send tingles up your spine.
Fantastic new collection from Jason Schneiderman. In these poems, Jason displays his intellectual engagements with brio and heft as well as his human and humane experiences in the world. I loved this book.
Some good poems, but many fell flat for me. Schneiderman has returned to humor, which is a good thing, but, for me, most of the humor was merely clever. Most of section II could have been omitted and I would have liked the collection better. Many references to pop culture, with "The Buffy Sestina" suggesting to me that maybe he should go the Trinidad route in the future (though I can't imagine him doing that).
