This book pretty much picks off right where book 1 ended, with Rebecca in the PIT. After the stunts she and her friends pulled, you'd think there would be lots of action, right? Well..... you'd be wrong. You get page after page of Rebecca's guilt, self- doubt, and just blah. I kept waiting for something to happen, and was kept waiting until the end, when things finally picked back up. There was more romance in this book and even had a wedding. Don't know if I'm reading book 3.

Delightful craft. Expanding world. Flawed but growing characters. These phrases well summarize Rite of Revelation by Sarah Negovetich.

When I started reading this second installment in the Acceptance series, I wasn’t clear what the title, Rite of Revelation, meant especially in the context of the series. It becomes clear at the end and that revelation is what will move the narrative forward into the final book. It was definitely appropriately titled.

Sarah Negovetich’s craft again delighted me for her prose are crisp and dialogue efficient. It’s clear she’s studied craft and I appreciate her mastery... Read full review on my blog at http://blog.lrwlee.com/2016/02/18/rev...

At the end of Rite of Rejection we leave our gang of rejects banding together to break through the acceptance ceremony to explain to everyone what the machine really is and what lies the Cardinal has been pushing. That is it. We don't know what happens after that. Now we know. The Cardinal is none to pleased with the message and plans to kill everyone involved to solidify his plans to expand. However, things have changed and with unexpected help Rebecca and her friends escape the PIT. Now they have a chance at a life, but it isn't without difficulties.

So this book dives right in you don't miss a beat. Things look pretty bleak for the group. When I read the first book when it came out I thought it was a stand alone with an open, interpret for yourself ending, which left me wanting more but I did have my own theories on how things worked. I was wrong. Very wrong. We get right down to the bad. Things are looking bleak but then an accomplice breaks them out and they make their break from the PIT for good. Not everything goes smoothly and there are complications, as with any prison break you would assume. Then we have the whole after the escape part and what that means for them now. This was a pretty dynamic story and as I read I was beyond excited to know that it continued as it was so much better than what I came up with on my own.

Going along we also learn more about the world. The United Territories and the outside, the freeman. This also brought into play more characters to get to know. Not only did our core group of characters grow and develop as they adjusted and adapted to their new life but we also go to know new characters. Some family and some that grew to be. I really enjoyed meeting Liam and Ana and the others. I particularly enjoyed Patrice's sharp tongue, even when I wanted to strangle her for being a snob I could kind of see her point and it was rather funny.

In the previous book Rebecca and her friends had no real hope of living past the day. They stood up against the Cardinal to let others know the truth and stand up for what is right. Now, they have something worth living for, something worth dying for. Just like the first book this one makes you question things along side them and really think. I really enjoyed this part and I cannot wait to find out what happens next because that ending…I just had some feels at the end of that and I can't say more.

Last year, I had the pleasure of reading Rite of Rejection and finding a new author to add to my ever growing list of favorites. But after devouring the story, I had questions in the end and needed to know more – more about what happened after the speech – more about Rebecca, Daniel and Eric - just MORE. Thankfully, Ms. Negovetich heard the pleas of her readers and has given us Rite of Revelation, and for this reader, I am ecstatic beyond words!

So, was Rite of Revelation everything I wanted it to be? Why, yes…yes it was, plus so much more! In Rite of Rejection, the story left off with Rebecca giving her speech across the hacked airwaves, and even though it left me with a feeling of hope for the people, there really was no closure. I mean, did they escape? Did life get better? Did the Cardinal finally get what he had coming? In this second installment of the Acceptance series, the author took the story to heights I didn't see coming and I loved it! This is a story of hope, love, the desire to belong and the desire to change the seemingly impossible. It is also a story of believing in yourself and doing what you feel is right despite what others might feel is wrong. Most importantly of all, this is a story of the desire for something better, and along the way finding out that it was right in front of you staring you in the face.

From the start, the story grabbed my attention and held it until the very last page. I loved all the characters, and really enjoyed witnessing their growth as they dealt with everything life was dishing out. I became completely immersed in the world that the author has created and at times found myself holding my breath because things grew intense at times. The writing flows almost effortlessly and the story line is one that is easy to believe. My only disappointment is now I have to wait for the next book to be released.

If you are looking for a great read that is uniquely different and impossible to put down, then this series is one you will definitely need to check out especially if you like Young Adult Dsytopian fiction.

I received a free copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the sequel to Rite of Rejection, and thus the second book in a YA dystopian series about a world where young people are being introduced into society at a huge ball that also sorts them with their partners they are supposed to marry. We follow the protagonist, sixteen-year-old Rebecca, who is looking forward to being a proper member of society, but the machine that is supposed to choose a partner for her rejects her, and she is being transported away as a criminal. She forms an alliance with other prisoners about a risky escape plan, and thus things unfold.

I remember the first book as being a refreshing read, a really good dystopian, despite the similarities this world has to other big dystopian series such as the Matched trilogy by Ally Condie. Now when I saw book two up on NetGalley I had to request it because I had been looking forward to this book, but I must say I was honestly disappointed.

Everything that had been refreshing about the first book, the heist-like plans the group made, the loveable characters, the engaging writing, wasn't really there for me in this book. Okay, the writing was still mostly engaging, but there were several parts that really dragged for me, and the characters were more annoying than anything else. I just think that the author took a really generic road with this book, and I am sad about it. Typically, we have a heavy focus on the romance where it should not be at all, because there are much bigger things going on, and the romance would not be a priority for the people involved as much as it is. Also, several decisions the characters make are just crazy and I can't understand why they were made. All in all, it was a rather disappointing sequel for me here.

If you're into dystopian romance though, I would still suggest you give this series a try as long as you haven't read that much YA dystopian - because for me, one of the annoying things was how generic the story was because I'm sad that one of my favourite genres is so repetitive lately.

The Rite of Revelation by Sarah Negovetich is the second book in the Acceptance series, following Rite of Rejection. While these two books have almost identical ending paragraphs, the content of the book is different. Rebecca has grown. Along her journey she makes many decisions, some good, some bad. But she stood for her beliefs and others stood with her. The reason she was put in the pit becomes more and more obvious, they put her in because she is a leader and that threatened them.
The journey in this book is well described. I really like the town of Allmore and although I never thought I would say it, I felt sorry for Eric. Without giving more spoilers away, this is a great second book, it didn't have the second book syndrome as some do. And while you could read it as a stand alone, I would definitely recommend reading Rite of Rejection first.

The 2nd installment of Sarah Negovetich's Acceptance series, Rite of Revelation, proved to be just as good as the 1st!

Rite of Revelation picks up right where Rite of Rejection ended. The Cardinal wanted Rebecca to issue an apology for breaking into the Acceptance ceremony & broadcast, but she refuses to do so. This leads to chaos and riots and all hell breaks loose.

Eventually, Rebecca and Daniel do escape and find their way to some semblance of freedom. But of course, freedom never comes without a price. Some friends die, some friends are left behind, and some enemies are never truly gone.

The characters go through numerous changes in this book. I think one of the biggest things they all have to learn is forgiveness and trust, both of which are hard to do when you've been truly hurt and wronged by someone. Their little "family" has some issues to work through, and their group has to content with other groups outside the Cardinal's control who also have the same forgiveness and trust issues.

Rite of Revelation was a little slower paced than the first book, but I still enjoyed it just as much. This one was definitely more about the characters, although there were still several big scenes in the book that will make the next (and possibly final?) book in the series the big showdown. And without giving too much away, there were several tearjerker scenes in this book too.

If you enjoyed Rite of Rejection, I think you'll love Rite of Revelation too!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest reivew.

RITE OF REVELATION by Sarah Negovetich is the second book in the Acceptance trilogy. Readers follow Rebecca Collins shortly after the first book ends, and she hacks into the Acceptance ceremony camera feed. She and Daniel are now attempting to escape the Pit before they get killed by the Cardinal. They join forces with Eric, Elizabeth, and some other Pit members to begin a new life in freedom.

Like many YA dystopian books, Rebecca and her found family find themselves shocked and amazed when they discover not everyone in the world is under the Cardinal's rule. I enjoyed following the group as they become members of a new community, and attempt to restart there lives from there. Of course, things cannot go according to plan and drama ensues.

Overall, this is a solid second book in a trilogy. While it follows the tropes set out by many other books in its genre, I still am reading to find out what's going to happen with these characters. If I'm able to get the third book from my library, I will certainly complete the series.

I thought that this was a great sequel. It picked up right where book one left off. At this point I am so invested in these characters and what happens to them. While I was able to see one event in the book coming from pretty early on, something happened that I wasn't expecting at all and I am still not happy with it. I will be picking up the final book soon because I just need to see what happens and where these characters end up.

I want to move to Allmore

I'm a huge fan of these characters and the world the author built. This is a really fun read! It makes you feel love, humor, anger, sadness and hope, sometimes all at once. You'll want to pack up your burlap sack and move to Allmore to join in.

My Thoughts:

In a bookish world gone crazy, it takes a whole lot for a debut series to stand out above the crowd. For a while now, nay-sayers have been howling that "dystopian is dead", pushing people away from the genre in fear of no original content. To this people I say, ARE YOU CRAZY? Woah. Flashback to one year ago when I got my hands on, and devoured, the first installment of this series, Rite of Rejection. I was absolutely astounded. Blown away to the point where a book I read at the very end of 2014 became one of my favorite books all year. Crazy right?

How could Rite of Revelation ever hope to live up?

Book one ended us on a humongous cliff hanger. Probably one of the biggest ones I've seen in the genre, but boy did it pay off! While I will admit that I was slightly disappointed that book two doesn't pick right up where book one left off (can't say why for spoiler reasons), Negovetich more than makes up for it with the incredible twists and turns we see right from the first pages of Revelation. It's a fast-paced non-stop plot that keeps you moving until the very end. There is not a lull in this story at all. Action packed sequences of turmoil and heartbreak will forever change your views on revolution from the eyes of Rebecca and the gang.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Revelation was Negovetich's methods of developing her characters. We still follow the same gang (now with a few new additions), but each and every character trait we discovered in book one is magnified tenfold. We can really see each character's tragic flaw in such full detail that makes their development at times much like a disaster, so hard to watch, but so hard to look away. Negovetich really upped the ante this time with her characters. Emotions are explored, uncertain futures are tried, and we find our characters facing the toughest decisions of their entire life. Sure, life in the PIT was awful, but is the outside world any better? Can a rag-tag group of outcasts really hope to make a difference?

I don't know about other readers, but the biggest themes I got out of Revelation were the theme of forgiveness and redemption. Acceptance is key in the lives of Rebecca and the gang, but the ability to forgive those who have done them wrong, their society, their world in an effort to move forward. Not only forgiveness, but their individual character's respective journeys towards redemption is such an emotional crutch in this series. That takes strength the likes of which most novels never scratch the surface. I think that's quite possibly the reason this series is so close to my heart. It is so much more than a 'surface' level story. There is a lot at stake her, but on the forefront and the background for all the characters involved.

Negovetich really brought her A-game with the setting in book one. As I previously have noted, her setting of the PIT was one of the most well-written settings I have read. While book two took us away from the PIT, we still see some incredible writing on Negovetich's part. The descriptions alone are enough to have you smelling the pine of the forests and feeling the thick tension in each dramatic scene. I am really excited to see what Negovetich can do with the next installment of the series which will take our gang to new places with new adventures on the search for justice in revolution.

Original, thought-provoking, and exceeding all expectations, Negovetich soars with Rite of Revelation. An action-packed sequel that will keep you on the edge of your seat, begging for book three!

As you can clearly see, I absolutely loved each and every second of this second adventure with Negovetich and her beautifully crafted tale of dystopian amazingness. Rite of Revelation was everything I wanted and more. It should come as absolutely no surprise that I am granting this incredible novel a well-deserved 5-star review! I highly recommend this read to all fans of dystopian, young adult, or sci-fi fiction. You will not be disappointed. Add this series to your TBR today!

Review on my blog, The Fictional Reader

I read and reviewed the first book in this series, Rite of Rejection, quite a while ago. In fact, my review went up on November 9th 2014. So it’s been a while! When I saw the sequel on Netgalley, I hesitated. Should I request it? I did enjoy the first book, but my reading tastes and preferences have changed much over the past 1.5 years. But I wanted to give it a try, see if I would still enjoy it.

I’ll start by saying that this book inspired mixed feelings in me. I did enjoy the first half. It was action packed, interesting and new. You got to see the main characters in a different way, to see the repercussions of their actions against the Cardinal in book 1. When I finished the first book, it left me with a feeling of “WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?” because it was such a great ending. And while the first half of this book was to my liking, the second part was not.

First of all, I had so much trouble keeping track of time. At a certain moment, a month had passed and it took me a few pages to realize that. I thought it was just the next morning! Sometimes irregular jumps in time, especially unannounced, can leave the reader confused.

Characters

I think this is where most of my problems with this book stem from. In the first book, I quite enjoyed reading about each character. I said in that review that each character intrigued me, especially Rebecca. That was not the case in this book. I am still interested in most of the characters, but not Rebecca. Or Daniel.

I especially didn’t like Rebecca in this book. She just feels like she is the only person who can save the world for about 80% of this book. And that just bothers me. Girl, you’re not doing any of this alone. Another aspect she developed in this book, and that I severely disliked, is that she always feels like she is the only one feeling something. For example, there is a funeral in this book. And she destroys property, screaming that she is the only one grieving. While she had only known the person who died for like a month, and others have known said person for years. Who are you to dictate how people can grieve? GET A GRIP.

Lastly, the cheesiness. It was so real. There was a certain line similar to “I didn’t think I deserved happiness. But thanks to you I now know I can live my life and be happy”. That’s not a direct quote, but you get the gist. Please save me from this sentence. Another quote that bothered me was the following:

He won’t meet […]’s hard-mouthed glare and at least has the decency to look embarrassed.

Let me give you some context here. The person who should be embarrassed according to Rebecca did the following: he told the girl he’s dating that maybe they should get married when he comes back. The person who glares is the girl’s brother. Why should he be embarrassed? I DON’T UNDERSTAND! Why is it something he should be ashamed of?

My impression

Like I said, the first half of the book saved this read for me. That part was intriguing, action packed and gripping. For the second half, I spent a lot of my time rolling my eyes. I’m not surprised I didn’t love this as much, because my reading tastes have changed so much in 1.5 years.

I also thought this would be a duology. Surprise, it’s not. There will be a third book, going from the ending. I really wish it would’ve been a duology. It could have been much more powerful that way, in my opinion.

If you like dystopian novels, I’d tell you to give this series a go. You might really enjoy it! I definitely liked the first book, and am okay with this one.

**I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review**

4 stars

When Rebecca and Daniel decided to come forward with the truth about the Acceptance ceremony and how the Cardinal only uses it weed out those that don’t fit mold of the perfect citizens – to try and create a perfect society – they never foresaw the lack of change. But they did expect for the Cardinal to want to punish them for their disobedience. For Rebecca, that meant a “public” apology via a new video saying that she way wrong – while Daniel was severely beaten and used as leverage to force Rebecca to read the prepared speech. But Eric the prisoner turned guard that Rebecca had convinced herself she could be happy with as long as she was free during the beginning of their time together in the PIT – back before he betrayed her and her friends escape attempt that ended up leaving one of them dead – comes in to Rebecca and Daniel’s rescue. The three are able to escape the PIT, along with Eric’s sister Elizabeth, Daniel’s sister Patrice, Constance, and her husband Thomas. The road to freedom isn’t an easy one for the group – especially as the Cardinal has it bad for punishing Rebecca for her stunt while in the PIT.

When everything they have ever been taught comes into question and they end up meeting up with actual settlers that have been able to live outside the Territories for years without the Cardinal’s “protection”, the group is in awe. They begin to cultivate new friendships and start feeling like they belong somewhere. However, when a member of their village becomes deathly ill, Rebecca sees it as her penance for so many people dying in the PIT after her escape to get the medication needed to help – even if it means she has to personally go back to the Territories to find it. While no one thinks it safe for her to go herself, she makes sure that no stone is unturned while searching for the rare medication – even heading to a neighboring village with whom they have unresolved issues with to find it. With much toil and pain, while they finally do find the medication, it ends up all for not as their friend was too far gone in her sickness and her illness ends up claiming her life. And not only is the village faced with the loss of a cherished member, it is also discovered that the Cardinal has started sending out troops out to look for Rebecca specifically. With all her guilt still brewing over those that have fallen due to helping her, Rebecca is first in line to run a rescue attempt when the same neighboring village with whom they are at turmoil with is attacked. Life for Rebecca was never meant to be so difficult, but she is always first in line to help a fellow person in need.

I am still amazed at how strong Rebecca stays throughout her journey. Even when life gives her lemons, she picks them up and throws them right back at it! She is loyal, caring, genuine, and never backs down from a fight over those she cares about. I just loved the first book, and this one certainly lived up to my expectations for the second book in the series. Ms. Negovetich does a great job of showing that no matter the conditions, family isn’t where you live, or even the conditions in which you live, but HOW you live with those that you love and care about – something Rebecca is an expert at. I am really looking forward to finding out more about the Cardinal and just who he is, and why he is the way he is…hopefully that will come in the next book (hint, hint)!

I received an ARC to give an honest review.
Wow is all I truly say with this book. If you haven't read book one Rite of Rejection I highly suggest you start reading it so you can understand what is going to be happening in Rite of Revelation.
So Rebecca and her friends pretty much got in trouble with their little stint of broadcasting during the Acceptance. You just know that the Cardinal is not going to let them leave he has to make an example of them. So when Rebecca and her friends escape you know that is going to make the Cardinal even more mad than he already is. As Rebecca and her friends run through the wilderness they come across a small village and they learn there are other villages out there that are in hiding from the Cardinal as well. Will Rebecca and her friends finally be safe from danger? Can they all finally have a semi normal life? We see Rebecca grow more in this story especially when she has to make big decisions. Though through out the story you just are waiting to see if the Cardinal will ever find Rebecca and what will happen to those that try to protect her? At the end of this book I already was seeing a possible book three being written by this author. In this story we get more of the villages and how they work, also we see how Rebecca and her friends are surviving not being in the PIT. There is so much within this story that I loved that I feel I would give too much away. If you are looking for a book that has some action, love, a great story line, likable characters then pick up this book.
Not much more I can say except get this book if you like defiance, survival, friendship, some action and more.

Sarah's back! Well, her character, Rebecca is, as told by Sarah! It's a God send. After a disappointing cliffhanger ending in the first book, Sarah brings Rebecca and co. back to continue the story. Thus picking up shortly after the last book, this one continues Rebecca's tale of life in the PIT. Sarah writes Rebecca's tale in first person, so Rebecca walks readers through her life of living in the PIT after having hacked the Cardinal's feed during the most recent Acceptance Ceremony that just last year sent her to the PIT. Rebecca is learning to use her very reason for being put in the PIT by the Cardinal to challenge the Cardinal. I am pleased to see her growth as a character and in her journey against the evil Cardinal.
This newest journey takes us beyond what I would have expected for her Rebecca and her friends. Sarah's strength as a writer has also grown. Her characters are becoming more dimensional and the plot takes a life that doesn't feel too predictable. Granted one twist I saw coming from the beginning of the scene, but it is to be expected in Rebecca's world. While I was disappointed in predicting the scene, the scene was handled as I would expect for Rebecca and co. I would have been more disappointed if the scene hadn't happened. However, the rest of the book wasn't as predictable. I found this recent book to be more alluring than the first showing how Sarah has grown as a writer. Considering she wasn't even planning for this book, I am glad she listened to her fans and dug deeper to tell Rebecca's story more. With this kind of growth as a storyteller, I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the Acceptance Series.

Although the title implies a big revelation, I'm not sure that it pulls off the power of it's promise. The only real reveal is expected from the beginning which came as no real surprise. I really loved the Pony Express idea. I would have liked to see more of the information that Daniel's skill could have provided in building it's success. The book flows smoothly from the ending of Rite of Rejection to the end. There aren't any true twists or moments that take your breath away. Also, the idea that Rebecca's gift trumps everyone else's is just not believable. She didn't make any plans or take any actions that other people would/could come up with. Yes, her gift of perseverance & maybe in oration (if built more) could have pushed her forward more into the realm of being extra special but that didn't come about here. I would have like to see more development of the charaters than what we already saw in book 1. There were some great lines here that stood out to me with my favorite being, "Maybe forgiving you is easier than trying to hold onto all the anger". Again, only minor editing errors. Finally, after the 1st book, with it's development & action, I felt a bit let down. However, I'm hoping for more answers & drama to come in the next book. :-)

My star ratings include these 5 elements:

1~great story line
2~engaging characters
3~use of word building
4~being well edited or narrated
5~the ending

I have been waiting for this book.....and it was well worth the wait.

I fell in love with these characters from the very beginning, their struggles to survive, their drive to go against the odds....makes for a very exciting read.

Escaping execution, with the help of Eric (who would have thought??) Rebecca and the others are on the run to find safety. They discover there is so much more out in the world, outside of the Cardinal's power, but will they ever be safe?

Did I say I loved this book? The dystopian genre is my favorite...I'm sorry, it just is.

This story begins with adrenaline that never gives. It's also filled with emotion on so many levels. I had my heart broken with sadness, Totally frustrated with betrayal, and disgusted with loss, that I was on an emotional roller coaster. It has twists and turns all throughout the fast paced storyline, I just never wanted it to end....but it did....with a cliff hanger ...HUGE cliff hanger...so that only means...YEAH!! Another book to come and I can not wait!!

Wow! What a great book. It was like being on the best rollercoaster ride ever! It is also such a great love story. Love stories actually. All of the characters are so wonderful. I love how Rebecca is strong and smart and independent and yet, soft and still feminine. I just love the new characters in this book also. I love the fact that that I picked this book up and basically read it until I was finished because I couldn't wait to see what happened next. And speaking of what happens next.....I can't wait for Book 3!

I thought this book was fabulous, as is the author. It definitely feels like the story keeps going, like there was no break in the story. It starts with just as much tension and action as it ended with and it jumps right into the meat of the story. I love how the author really uses her skills to put you in the story and make you tense up right along with the characters. This series is a definite read, if you haven't already!

Rite of Revelation - Acceptance BK 2

Although this book is not quite as action packed as the first book, is not without its moments. The non-action moments I find to be necessary for the natural progression of the characters. I look forward to reading book 3.

Very interesting premise. It felt a bit like Matched by Allie Condie in the plot. I enjoyed both books. I do feel like I missed something not reading the first book of the series.

This book, while not quite as fast paced as the first in the trilogy was a quick, easy, interesting read! I like that the author continues to avoid YA cliches.
