Original, creative, thought-provoking and compelling. Never read anything quite like this; lots of back and forth, past to present and everything else in between - I'm amazed at how this author's mind works. Will definitely read more of his work.
I read this book in 2016 and loved it very much, even though I have never heard of this author before. I'm planning to read it again at some point. Definitely recommend this set.
I occasionally read the books that Facebook tells me I’ll like. This was one of them, and Facebook was right. I enjoyed the whole series. Very cool time-travel-only-not-really premise, interesting characters, and it’s a completed series so the story is all wrapped up in an omnibus. Normally I wouldn’t actually commit to a trilogy by an author I don’t know, but halfway through the book I returned the first volume (thank you, Kindle Unlimited) and downloaded the whole thing. Most of the time, it seems like free books are worth what you pay for them. In this case, it’s a steal.
The story moved through multiple timelines so it was a bit confusing at times, but when you consider that the story itself is about time...freezing time, traveling through time, etc. then it makes sense. Maybe more defined chapter titles would help but I'm not sure, since there were so many different things going on. It would sure make an interesting movie though.
Basically, there's a guy who comes into a town and ends up taking over in a non-direct way. He gets people to do his bidding. The townspeople are basically prisoners because they can't leave town without being killed by horrible mythical creatures just beyond the town's perimeter. There is a lot of metaphysical stuff happening and some fairly horrific deaths to contend with. Meanwhile, the same people (or a number of them anyway) are playing out a totally different life in another time...think of it as threads of time; each separate, but sometimes they cross. There are trees that move around, certain items that hold special powers, scary creatures, a murdered, a woman out for revenge...you get it all.
Ultimately, the story is sort of about that guy who came into the town, also about some other players who somewhat control him, also about the handful of townspeople who travel on these various threads of time. Confused yet? I was, but I still enjoyed the trilogy.
It's a weird read that I found entertaining and looked forward to the resolution. But with that said, not every timeline can have a happy ending, now can it? You'll have to read it and decide for yourself.
I've never read anything by this author, and I've never read a book like these. They are wonderful, exciting, and interesting. Those words are so lame; they really don't come close to describing how incredible this series is. Each chapter leaves one with a sense of wonder and anticipation that just rolls on and on with the story. It's like rolling down the best grassy hill in the universe as a 9 year old. It's always amazing, no matter how many times you climb back up to do it again, and you never roll down in quite the same way or place twice. I am counting this among my favorite series list. No matter what genre you like to read, you'll like this series because it's got all of them and they are each interwoven in the best possible way.
This is a huge story! Not just in terms of length but of concept. I doubt I have the ability to describe the properly but this trilogy was enthralling. The first book took the most effort to get into as the world inside it is being defined and the parameters are set for the rest of the series. The 2nd and 3rd books build upon all that came before and the result is an amazing saga. I would love to see this trilogy made into a movie trilogy. It could be at least as intense as "The Matrix" trilogy.
This was brilliant. All 3 books are excellent as stand alone stories, but when read together are simply brilliant.
The book starts with Frank being released from prison to search for his brother. On his release he finds things have changed in Rook Mountain. This is the start of his personal battle with a stranger called Zed, who is seemingly aiming to destroy his home town.
I absolutely loved this series and will definitely be checking out more by the author.
Regulation 19 was ok, a novel concept with little in the way of interesting turns. A Place Without Shadows starts out weird, gets weirder and then just lost me. I was gone. I had no desire to even explore The Broken Clock. The villain is never well defined, the hero is too well defined, and the mystery just isn't compelling. I picked it up because I like time travel books, I put it down because I like literature.
The entire trilogy is fantastic! It’s unique and interesting. The main characters were well defined enough to either love them or hate them. I’m a huge King fan so I have pretty high standards with regards to my “supernatural” reading😆. If it caught your interest enough to read the reviews you have got to read this Trilogy!!!
A great read. Couldn't put it down until I finished.
Would have been a 5 star review but this book needs a serious proofreader. The mistakes made reading what could be a great book (I think it is up there with The Stand and Swan Song) a bit frustrating.
But don't let that stop you, if you are a fan of the Apocalyptic genre, this is right up there.
Reading the entire trilogy at one time was a bit much. I think I would have enjoyed it much more if I had taken a break in between stories. That being said, I really liked it quite a bit. As I read it, I could visualize the people and the worlds that were built. It reminded me of a Stephen King book.
The premise was refreshing. Characters well fleshed out and engaging. I tore through the set of three volumes with no abatement of my enjoyment. I am very glad there are more stories of this world to come!!
This trilogy grabs you by the throat and takes you on a thrill ride right till the end! Well written with vivid characters and descriptions reading it was like watching a movie in your head loved it
Well developed, unique characters. Our world, but not, in a way that makes perfect sense. Story holds your attention, never a dull moment. Couldn't put it down.
Phew 3 books in one that's a lot of book to through but it didn't feel like it,they flowed from one to another and made an immensely satisfying read. There was science fiction, murder, romance and an ending that hinted of a further book or two ,definitely recommend.
Really different for me even so I enjoyed the 3 book series. Complex to wrap ones head around the time jumping. The author did a good job keeping all the details in order. There were plenty of mystery and surprises to keep you involved.
I devoured this trilogy in 24 hours. There was no way I wanted to stop without knowing the end. The author amazingly turned a very convoluted timeline into a story that encompassed and explained various storylines without going dry or becoming confusing.
When you read a lot you will occasionally SEE the plot forming and become aware of the book. This did not happen with this story... Every thing was magical and flowed easily... It has an unpredictable story line and characters you cared about
Enjoyed the book up to the ending felt it was all a bit rushed with no great conclusion. Character development was great and am a fan of the author but it just missed the mark on this one. Very complex story line with different Timezone. Still interesting from a creative standpoint
