Wonderful book. The story seems a little slow at first as there is a lot of technical information about steamships. However, there is enough plot and intrigue in this story to make an interesting read time and again.

It is a slow read for the first few chapters. The author provides extensive detail to physical surroundings and character backstory. As the plot moves forward, there are moments during which the author stops to provide extensive details again. The author also writes in accents and pronunciations that can make it difficult to read in spots.
Overall, it is a good story and interesting plot.

Great naval yarn starring a likable young officer who’s fun to root for. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. Lots of great action scenes! I would have given it 5 stars, except there is some sexist and racist content that shouldn’t go unacknowledged.

Sort of the Forrest Gump of the early civil war navy, but enjoyable reading
