The Centre interested itself in the problems of the sedentarization of nomadic and semi-nomadic groups which constitute a fairly large number of population in the Arab States. Planning for sedentarization and attracting tribal groups to settle in modernized communities is being increasingly given due consideration as a legitimate endeavour in developing Arab communities.
In April 1964, the International Labour Organization held a "Technical Meeting on Problems of Nomadism and Sedentarization" in Geneva, to which ASFEC was requested to contribute in the light of its exploratory studies in this area, and from its experiences in working with rural communities.
This paper, inter alia, represents, as stated in its full title, Reflections on Training Village Community Workers and Its Applicability to Tribal Communities. It is felt that its publication in the series of ASFEC Occasional Papers would be useful to many readers interested in the development of both rural and sedentarized communities.
