I really wanted to give this one 4.5 stars. It's published by DK and the Smithsonian and is packed with information about dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. The illustrations of the dinosaurs are really cool, especially seeing the velociraptor with feathers. My only complaint is that there is a lot of technical information. Dinosaur aficionados will probably have no problem with it, but I was overwhelmed.

This is one book where all you have to do is enjoy the pictures - tho' the information is great too!!! It is a feast for your eyes ... perfect for any age (even those too young to read).... and you don't have to be a dinosaur fanatic to appreciate the book.

Check it out if you have a dino lover in your life.

If you’re the parent to a Dino-obsessed kid, this is a must read. My son is only 5, but we’ve exhausted all the basic dinosaur books. This book had stunning visuals and many in depth details.

In Knowledge Encyclopedia Dinosaur!: Over 60 Prehistoric Creatures as You've Never Seen Them Before (DK Knowledge Encyclopedias), by D.K. Publishing, it talks about the many different historical creatures, such as pterosaurs, sea reptiles, crocodilians, dinosaurs and birds, and many more. It gives information about the different subgroups of the creatures and where they evolved from. I was very invested in reading this book because I am a big fan of dinosaurs, and there were many new facts that I never even knew about. Such as I didn’t know that pterosaurs and sea reptiles didn’t count as dinosaurs. They also went through the periods and in order of which animals appeared during the time, with estimates due to not knowing if there are even more creatures we haven’t discovered. I would recommend this book to people who are interested in learning more about the evolution of prehistoric creatures.

Dramatic Illustrations!

Great visual artistry, as usual, from DK. The book will engage your kids, for sure, and you will learn a lot too. Nice layouts, especially vivid on the iPad!

If your child is passionate about dinosaurs DO NOT HESITATE to buy this book.
I've read it from cover to cover with my 3 year old, all 200 pages (took a month though). He was blown away - loved it!

This book is a must. Why? As a grandfather, I have the privilege of watching my grandchildren grow up and develop interest in the world around them. I have one who is lover of snakes, alligators, and of course dinosaurs. He is five and he is good. We have watched every documentary on Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Prime that has been produced. I am tested every time we get together and we are headed to Indianapolis next week. I am ashamed to admit that I have only passed one test, and that was a 60, 6 out of 10. The names, when they lived, and whether they are a meat or plant eater are all required. This book helped me pass my only test and is a must read every time we meet. So, if you want to do a quick study, this encyclopedia is a must

Wow! This is an Amazing book! Not only is this book filled with so many facts, but it also has multiple diagrams and pictures on each page! It is so full of knowledge that this review is only scratching the surface!!

Takeaways from this Book:

1) Time Periods
A) Triassic b) Jurassic and C) Cretaceous
-I always knew the time periods but I always thought Jurassic came last!

2) The Dinosaurs and Their Time Periods
-Growing up with Jurassic Park in the 90s I always though the Jurassic period had the best dinosaurs but I was so wrong! The Cretaceous period has the most famous dinosaurs including the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Velociraptor, Ankylosaurus, and many more!!! Only the Stegosaurus (the second most commonly known dinosaur comes from the Jurassic period!)

3) Stegosaurus and Allosaurus are American!!
-Did you know the Stegosaurus and Allosaurus were found in the Midwest! I sure didn’t!

4)Mammals!
-Did you know mammals existed as early as the Jurassic period! I didn’t!!! I thought they didn’t exist until after the dinosaurs went extinct.

5)Ankylosaurus!
-I found out that Ankylosaurus is just a “type” of dinosaur. It’s actually not any one dinosaurs name. For example a Euoplocephalus is a type of Ankylosaurus.

6)The Iguanodon
-One is my favorites! One of the first plant eating dinosaurs to ever be found!!!

7)Theropods!
-Theropods are dinosaurs that are bipedal (stand on two legs or feet) and mainly meat eaters. Like the T-Rex.

8) The Archaeopteryx
-One of the first dinosaurs ever found that had feathers in the fossils! The discovery of the Sinosauropteryx reiterated the theory that dinosaurs weren’t just scaly lizards!

These are just the facts that I personally believe I will remember the most, but I know I learned so much more. Again, this is just scratching the surface. I highly recommend this dinosaur guide to any kid or adult who loves dinosaurs!!!

This book is about so much more than dinosaurs! Though the reptiles take center stage, fossils, insects, Neanderthals, marine creatures are more are featured in this colorful, educational book.

Each era that dinosaurs lived, Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous, is given its own section, and within that section other plants and animals from the era are featured. In addition, it is not just the well known dinosaurs that are the feature, many lesser known members of the species are put on full display.

The illustrations are photorealistic, and very well done. They portray each creature with the best detail and accuracy as is currently known. You can see the scales, fur, feathers and spines in vivid color. Each animal is portrayed in motion as well, which only aids to the enjoyment.

Facts not only about the dinosaurs, but about the places in which they lived, and what shared those habitats is also provided. A very enjoyable, informative book for a lifelong fan of dinosaurs, or someone looking to the subject for the first time.
