This is my first book by either one of these authors. I truly enjoyed both of the authors’ writing styles. The dialogue for all the teenage characters is spot on and I will definitely be looking into other published works by both authors.
This story is told in two parts and I really enjoyed the first part but sadly, although shocked by the events that lead into part two I really didn’t like where the story went. The catalyst of events that rocked the characters at the end of part one was shocking but the rest of the story felt very predictable. This book is told in dual POVS of Sebastian Holbrook and Amelia Bright. They are two high school seniors traveling in different circles with all the excitement of friendship and the fall into love.
Sebastian is the legal guardian of his seven year old brother, Carter. He is struggling to keep the promise he made to his dying mother while attending school, working and taking care of his brother. Amelia on the other hand, is from a socially respected family, she is a twin, the sister who runs all sorts of clubs for her high school with the bright future. Once Amelia meets Bash outside of school (she is tutoring his little brother) the two become intrigued by the other and and start to notice the other in their classes. Their friendship and fall into love happens so very effortlessly.

Thereafter, the story hits Part Two following a horrific event that rocks the school and especially Amelia. She breaks, she crumbles, her insurmountable grief suffocates her and all her plans and dreams seem to crack.
”I don’t think I want to be anywhere, Sebastian.”
Overall, this story felt long and stretched out at times. Even though I didn’t embrace the direction the authors took with the story line, it could be that I have read this type too many times or that I thought I was in for a different type of story. It should be mentioned that there is the one sex scene and it is a fade to black scenario. I did like certain aspects and wish it was based a bit more on the Bash and Amelia than Amelia learning to live with her loss. For some reason, I’m left thinking Bash’s character could have been more (he had the makings of an unforgettable book hero). Regardless, I definitely wish these characters a bright future!

I thought: It's weird to rate your own book.
Then I thought: But I read the book 2519 times so I should rate it, right?
Then I thought: No, it's weird.
Then I thought: You know what? If I didn't think it deserves 5 stars I shouldn't be putting it out there.
So I rated it.
Read this book! Erica and I bled on all the pages and by buying it on Tuesday, November 17th you are helping us restock on Band-aids.
Seriously, thank you all for your support. I hope you love Amelia and Bash as much as we do!

The Bright Effect es mi primera lectura de las autoras ( tanto juntas como por separado ) y narra la historia de Amelia y Sebastian.
Ultimamente no le he dedicado mucho tiempo a los romances, por lo que ya tenia ganas de leer una novela del estilo de The Bright Effect, que fuera ligera, tierna y romantica.
Leer la historia de Bash y Amelia fue una muy buena experiencia, en un principio me tomo por sorpresa que los protagonistas fueran tan jovenes ( 18 años ), ya que al leer al sinopsis pense que tendria unos personajes mas adultos pero la verdad es que la novela es tan dulce y adorable ( y habia pasado tanto tiempo desde que disfrute de una historia juvenil ) que ese echo solo hizo que disfrutara aun mas la lectura.
Me gusto la forma en la que esta escrita, tiene una narracion agil y pese a no tener pocas paginas ( unas 400 ) a mi se me paso en un suspiro, seguro que volvere a repetir con las autoras.
Lo unico que no fue del todo de mi agrado fue que no tuviera un epilogo, para mi son necesarios en todas las novelas y en este caso en concreto lo eche mucho en falta.
Para finalizar, The Bright Effect es un libro sencillo pero no por eso carece de profundidad o importancia, perfecto para leer en cualquier momento pero sobretodo te lo recomiendo si quieres leer un libro sentimental y emotivo que te haga encoger el corazon.
P. D : Soy consciente de que la puntuacion es mas cercana a las 3.5 estrellas pero el mensaje que deja la novela es tan bonito y valioso que puntuo a la alza.

I mean I 100% cannot wait for this to be released!!!! These two ladies are geniuses together and apart. One of my highly anticipated books now.

Okay, I've finished this book and all I have have to say is WOW. Erica and Autumn are an epic paring. I loved when they joined forces for Steering the Stars, but they blew me out of the water together with The Bright Effect. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love/need spoilers in my life. I go to the ends of the earth searching for them (I have been know. To google translate reviews and webpages jut to see if they contain a spoiler). As a beta reader on this one, there were NO spoilers to be found and guys, it HAS to be that way.
Remember the book We Were Liars and how the back basically said not to spoil the book and to lie to everyone about it. This needs to be exactly like that. This book needs to be just dived into blindly. Trust this spoiler addict on that point.
As always, the love story is so sweet. It's about Amelia Bright, who is such a sweet driven girl who has the whole world ahead of her. It's also about Sebastian Holbrook, who is now definitely my favorite book boyfriend. He is the most caring, patient, and selfless man I've read so far. This book is set in their senior year as they both are preparing for college and life after high school. They both come from two vastly different worlds and come together and make a story that's magic.
I cannot give Erica or Autumn praise enough for this book. They took my breath away, made me experience emotions that I didn't even know I had and make my heart ache then repaired it. These women are phenomenal.
Please read the book. And then please message me when you're done so I have someone to talk about this book with. I need to talk about it with someone.

I just think that for some people, the story is never over.
Amelia Bright is your usual over-achiever kind of girl. She has a lot of plans in the future, and has a lot on her plate in the present. Sebastian Holbrook isn’t one of them. He was the type of guy she was better off without, especially with the reputation and attitude that is attached to his name. But thanks to his brother, Carter, their world is about to meet.
Sebastian Holbrook goes into my book-boyfriend list not just because of so many reasons that includes Amelia, but the fact that he was trying to raise his little brother on his own. And juggling work, school and making sure his brother has everything he needed was not an easy task especially when you’re in your senior year. He didn’t have the time for falling in love, especially not with the unreachable Amelia Bright.
Loving her is strange and confusing and damn risky.
Them being together is inevitable, they have a lot on their plates, and they were not from the same side of the track but they were just so good together, my heart just melted. Sebastian needed someone to love him with everything that has been going through in his life, and Amelia is such a loving and supportive person. They were just so great together, you wouldn’t see that piece of heartbreak coming along.
Because that scenario caught me off-guard, it stole and broke lives and it broke hearts. It was devastating to watch because it seems that everything fell on Sebastian’s shoulder altogether. How he managed: thank you so much to his awesome friend Seth who never left his side. I didn’t think he’d manage without him at this point in his life. There were a whole lot of temptations on making his life easier, and at times I thought he’d give into it. Thank goodness he didn’t!!!! The lowest point in his life made his friendship tight, and him a little stronger.
As for Amelia, if it was hard for Bash (Sebastian, I like calling him by his whole name too!), it was totally overwhelming sense of dread and loss for Amelia. Sebastian tried so hard in supporting her, being with her and just loving her, but some things are just inevitable.
I thought their love wasn’t strong enough to surpass this, but I was once again proven wrong. Because just when I thought everything was falling apart, a spark of hope came along, the hurt stilled. Everything was ALMOST coming back into places, it warmed my heart. Everything was going to be okay: for Amelia, for Sebastian, for everyone.
We have a great set of main characters, and an even greater set of secondary characters, who were just as important. I didn’t think Sebastian and Amelia would surpass everything that happened to them without their support system: Audra, and Seth. They had their own moments and it was never dull.
Gotta say that these two women (Autumn Doughton and Erica Cope) collaborate, they surely bring out the best in each other. Because for the second time around, they give us something that was truly worth the wait: a book filled with so much heart and emotions, I just couldn’t put it down. There was so much love, so much heartache and yet so much hope that it fills your soul right to the very core, and even the ending (which I didn’t really expect) brings out a promise of a next bright chapter for our characters, without making it a cliffy (thank you so much). So indeed, I concluded (perhaps with numerous people), that The Bright Effect by Autumn Doughton and Erica Cope is another must-read and must-not-miss kind of book.
Whatever piece of forever we get, I’m not going to let it go without a fight.

The Bright Effect is a beautifully heartfelt and tender story of love and hope, but also grief and heartache. Amelia Bright and Sebastion "Bash" Holbrook are an unlikely pair, but couldn't be more perfect for each other and I loved them both so very much. While I totally thought I had the story pegged in the beginning, I found out soon enough I was very wrong. Every time I thought I knew where things were headed, I was surprised. At times it was surprised in the best was possible and other times it was absolutely heartbreaking. Because of that I'm not saying much else and suggest going into this one blind. After enjoying Steering the Stars by Doughton and Cope I knew I would read more from this writing duo and now The Bright Effect, with it's solid writing and incredible story, has solidified my love for this talented pair.

I was so excited when I saw in my email that Eva from All Books Considered had gifted me this beauty. I had just finished my last book and jumped right in.
Sebastian, or Bash, is struggling to raise his brother, go to school, work and keep everything running smoothly. Amelia is always thinking about her future, part of student government, plays tennis and volunteers to tutor elementary school kids. These two are from the opposite sides of town, wit equally opposite lives but can't help but be drawn to each other.
BASH! Ok so when we first see him he comes off as a jerk. I was like - great, we are getting this bad boy situation turned good or something. Nope, he is just a good guy. The best. He is doing so much to do everything right - school, work, raise his brother. Their mom had died and their dad isn't around. On top of that he is sweet, understanding and adorable. None of this was over the top though. Plus he had an artistic side - gets me everytime!
Amelia is a twin. Her sister Daphne, was the free spirit while Amelia was more structured and focused. Her little quirk was wearing crazy leggings. I loved this because it came with a cute story and was just enough of a quirk to show Amelia had a little free spirit in her too. The sisters had a great relationship and loved seeing the sisters together. Amelia really let herself be a little more relaxed with Bash. She wasn't always worried or thinking about college or the future.
On the side characters the two best were Carter, Bash's little brother and his friend Seth. Carter was so cute without being obnoxiously so. Seth was such an awesome friend and stepped up to help Bash so much. I wish there was more Seth honestly. Maybe he can get a book???
As I was reading this I was thinking - yup, I see where this is going. I figured a totally predictable, cute, quick read. Well, I will say that I didn't see a lot of it coming and that was awesome. It was super cute and quick though. Loved the ending and where Amelia and Bash ended and where they were going.

I wish I could give this book 6262829292 stars. I had the honor of reading this book early. Once I heard that Autumn and Erica were writing another book together I got so excited! Oh man I don't know if I have words for how amazing this book is! It's so raw and real! I felt every single emotion that they were feeling. I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this book but it surpassed every expectation I had. There was definitely parts that surprised me and made me wanna cry! Good tears or bad I'll never tell! You will just have to find out what happens for yourself! You will not regret it! This book definitely made me want to eat red vines haha. And I just happen to go out and buy myself a bunch of leggings! I really hope that we get to jump into Bash and Amelia's world again!

Ms. Autumn Doughton writes book just for me. I am convinced she sits down and says to the people in her head, "Oh, Kristin can't wait to meet you." And it's true.
Amelia is beautifully written. From the very beginning you can see the bond between her and the people in her life. Her true friends and family. I LOVED getting to know her because the more I read, the more I liked her.
Bash is a fighter, he's loyal, and sincere, and tender even though he has to be tough. I'm just a little in love with him. :)
I was going a long reading this book... just fine. AND THEN Autumn and Erica RIPPED MY HEART FROM MY CHEST AND STOMPED ALL OVER IT. My heart was broken, and I honestly thought there was no way to repair it... but they did it. And they even added the most perfect Epilogue ever.

I don't read many YA books, but there was something about the blurb that grabbed hold and said, "Read me now." It's true, there are times when a book bestows a real surprise on a reader, and it's much more than you expect. The Bright Effect was just such a book for me.
A bittersweet story that is emotionally heartbreaking at times in dealing with loss and grief, yet painted with strokes of growing up, love and hope. Amelia Bright and Sebastion "Bash" Holbrook come from different walks of life. Their relationship comes up against significant hurdles. Both feel the heavy demands life has dealt them. When things totally go off the track, your heart will feel every heartwrenching moment with them.
I won't say much more -- to do so would give away the joy of experiencing Bash and Amelia's story without influence. I'll end by saying that I would love to see what life is like for each of them five or six years into the future. Hint-hint to the writers!

Las historias sobre relaciones entre hermanad es uno de mis puntos débiles.
Carter es el niño más lindo y le da mucha ternura a la historia. Bash, tantas cosas que pasó y tantas que superó. Amelia siendo y quieriendo ser perfecta para todos. Es más que evidente que las cosas pueden cambiar cuando menos lo esperas y que no podemos controlar las acciones de los demás ni justificarlas. Perder a alguien que amas es tan doloroso, y más cuando compartes todo con esa persona. No hubo ni un solo momento en que la historia perdiera ritmo y fluídez, al menos para mí. No hubo cambios radicales en los personajes secundarios. Es un libro sobre atreverte a ir por lo que quieres, experimentar, equivocarte, llorar, levantarte y superar. Pasar por el dolor pero encontrar el modo de dejarlo ir.
Me encantó.

I absolutely adored this book!! Autumn and Erica did an incredible job on sharing Amelia and Bash's story. Every detail was thought out beautifully.
You will not be able to read this without falling in love with these two and their friends. The devotion that they had for each other, through thick and thin was something that I hope my kids will have in their friendships.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend this book. It'll make you laugh, swoon, cry and love.

The Bright Effect had everything you could possibly want in a book: great characters, amazing writing and emotion. So much emotion! I was laughing and full on ugly crying. Sad books hurt, but you know they are a sign of a good book. i recommend this book to anyone who loved The Fault in our Stars and Steering the Stars, Autumn and Erica's previous collaboration. I can't wait to read more from these amazing authors.

I am so in love with all the characters. It was a different story en el buen sentido. De verdad que me enamoré del libro.

Loved this book!! Amelia and Sebastian (Bash) are amazing characters. The story was heartbreaking in parts. Bash was such a complex, yet intriguing character. The way he took care of his brother was pure fantastical. Him and Amelia together were beautiful and sweet. There were tender moments, along with sexy ones, and of course painful ones. I still enjoyed this journey with these characters.

Amelia and Sebastian (Bash) are from 2 different worlds. They have grown up together and have attended the same school but they have lived 2 very different realities. To date myself they remind me of the Breakfast Club couple Claire and Bender. One girl is the princess (or so he thinks) and the guy is from the wrong side of the tracks just trying to get by.
Only change in the setup is that Sebastian is in charge of his younger
brother. He's had to take on a lot of responsibility in a very short time and we see him just trying to get by and do the best that he can at the beginning of the story when he first
encounters Amelia again he is almost
drowning in real life responsibilities and she on the other hand has a 10
year plan almost and what
school she wants to attend and what she wants to do with the rest of her life. Amelia has a lot of book smarts but not as much with the real life experience and her twin sister encourages her to let go and not follow the plan so close. To allow
Life in and experience it the way life is meant to be experienced.
By living it and getting out there and having adventures with those you hold close to you.
I have loved these 2 authors writing together ever since I read Steering The Stars earlier this year and I was excited to see that they were planning another collaboration. This book differs from STS quite a bit. Both are still an amazing story don't
get me wrong but The Bright Effect really showcases how each of these authors have grown more comfortable with writing together and have really found their groove.
This story is seamless! I love the newness of the relationship and the unknown. That moment where you feel like you can conquer the world! Even the moments when I thought this story would break my heart. It reminded me just how precious life is and how we should live in the moment all the time because sometimes we get so caught up in the planning that we miss out on some really awesome stuff along the way.
Toward the end of this book I found myself wanting to stop and not finish the book, not because I hated it.
But because I wasn't ready to leave them and this time of their lives behind yet. I wished I could just stop
time and experience everything through their eyes. This isn't your typical YA romance kind of book. There are some tough topics tackled in this book but they are dealt with in such a real and unsugarcoated way that it sets this story apart from a lot of the other books in this genre. It broke my heart but put it back together again and I would gladly take the same journey a 100 times.

Autumn Doughton and Erica Cope do it again! I'm not sure how they write such good YA but it's refreshing during these days when NA has taken a bit of a dive. And, for the first time in a long time, I can easily say that I loved Sebastian even more than Amelia -- he was so good! I have found male MCs in dual POV YA and NA contemporary novels lacking this past year but not so in this book! I also have to say that another first in a long time came as I read this one -- I LOVED LOVED LOVED the ending. It has been a long time since I read an ending that wasn't too neat or too HEA. This one was so real, so good -- pretty much haven't felt that way since I read Thief. I would definitely recommend this one to fans of YA contemporary, along with everything else Autumn Doughton has written!

I don't really read much YA anymore, but I've yet to be disappointed with anything Autumn Doughton writes, and her last book with Erica Cope (Steering the Stars) was fantastic. This book was fantastic as well, and I was completely surprised by the storyline, I did not see that coming! Actually, there were quite a few instances where I thought the book would take one route, only to see it go in a completely different direction. Kudos to the authors for being unpredictable, and creating a much more engaging story.
Sebastian is a high school senior raising his seven year old brother since his mom died of cancer. So his life is hard and complicated even though he's only eighteen. He does have one very supportive friend, Seth, who I loved! (Do we get a book about him too?) Sebastian is a jerk when he sees Amelia tutoring his brother, but he actually apologizes and Amelia and he become friends and then more. I really appreciated the fact that he didn't stay a jerk and have Amelia fall in love with him in spite of it, I'm tired of YA/NA books with jerks disguised as "alpha males". No, they're jerks.
Amelia is what I would call an overachiever. She's on every committee, volunteers, cheerful, helpful...friends with everyone. But her friends are mostly the superficial kind. She's also just a little nerdy, her twin sister being the more popular cheerleader type. Sebastian sees past all that to the real Amelia, and they really seem to bring out the best in each other.
Because I loved this so much, I don't want to spoil anything (trust me, it's better going in blind), so I don't want to say to much more. But I laughed, I cried, I felt sympathy and anger, it's a pretty emotional book. This one's going to stay with me a while.

I loved Steering The Stars by these authors and to say I was excited to read this one, would be an understatement.
Without even reading the blurb, I had high expectations and they delivered. And more. And that cover? Love it!

I was asked to read The Bright Effect by Erica for my input on the story, I was honored to do so. Two amazing authors together again. Ever since I first heard about the book and seen the beautiful cover, I was anxious to get my hands on this book.
I loved the characters in this story. Amelia, Bash, Carter, and Seth were my favorites. There is just so much to love about them! Bash comes across as a bad boy, but he is oh so much more! It was a total swoon worthy factor that he chose to raise his little brother Carter. It’s heartbreaking that he’s put in that situation, but he heals your heart by stepping up and becoming an amazing big brother.
Seth is just an amazing friend. I’m so happy that Bash and Carter have someone like Seth on their side. You couldn’t ask for a truer friend. And Carter...he is just so darn cute!!! He will win your heart early on.

Wow. As I write this through tears of sadness, joy, and hope, I find myself craving Red Vines (which I normally despise), a crazy comfy pair of leggings, and a copy of Neil Gaiman's Fragile Things. Bash and Amelia (along with Daphne, Carter, Seth, and Audra) grabbed my heart from the beginning and never let go. Their story is raw and emotional, but also sweet and funny and, most importantly, real. That's a hard combination to pull off successfully as an author, but this wonder duo killed it once again. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us next!

It was such an enjoyable read! I loved how it pulled me into a binge reading state and left me with such warm appreciation for the lack of predictability and angst that come from so many of the books I get into. It's a pure love story that has you rooting for intimacy not lusty details that allows you go to enjoy Bash and Amelia's moments. The collaboration between the authors was perfect! Amelia is so bright that the authors may lead you into a vocabulary lesson, and peek your artistic interest with Bash's vivid talent!

This is my favorite contemporary book I've read this year! The story was beautiful, yet heart-wrenching, raw, and so realistic. It was so much more than a romance story. It deals with themes of self-discovery, growth, family relationships, hardship, and so much more. I loved the sister relationship between Amelia and Daphne. I also loved the dual perspectives of Amelia and Bash. I would highly recommend giving this book a try!

I received an ARC of The Bright Effect and it took me a few days to finish it, but that was only because I was busy! This was one of those books that keeps calling you back to read it.
I absolutely loved the main characters and the dual POVs. The relationship between Bash and Amelia seemed to happen so naturally and honestly that it was easy to root for them. Bash is one of those stand up guys that's a little rough around the edges but loyal to no end. Amelia started off a bit tightly wound but as the story progresses, she learns to loosen up a bit. I loved seeing her open up and let her hair down.
There is some drama, and it threw me off a bit at first because I felt like it was a little forced, but as the story continues it really does make sense. This is not the usual light and fluffy read, which also surprised me but not in a bad way.
The Bright Effect is a story about love, family, friends, and the pressure we put on ourselves to live up to people's expectations. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, especially lovers of romance. I've been a huge fan of Autumn Doughton's work for a while now and this one did not disappoint. Great book and I really appreciated the chance to read it early!

Creo que mi corazón acaba de hacerse bolita.
Este libro es fácilmente una de mis mejores lecturas del año. la comencé sin muchas expectativas, claramente esperando encontrar romance y la angustia adolescente que tanto amo leer. No esperaba nada de lo que pasó. Y aunque admito que me gustó, necesito que alguien venga y le ponga una bandita a un corazón porque quedó demasiado apachurrado.
Me encantaron los personajes: Amelia, con todo y sus rarezas con los leggins de animales y las decisiones tonta que tomó. De hecho, a ella la amé y eso no es algo que ocurra muy seguido, pero creo que fue porque la entendí. Entendí (al menos en parte) lo que sentía.
Bash es el chico más dulce y apapachable que he leído. Lo amo y su hermano, Carter es un niño demasiado dulce. Estos dos me robaron la parte que quedó sana de mi corazón. Ah y como olvidar a Seth que es sin duda el mejor amigo del mundo mundial.
Y voy a dejarlo hasta aquí porque si sigo escribiendo voy a llenar esto de spoiler y nadie los quiere, ¿cierto?

I had a very limited time to read yesterday so I sat down telling myself I would read until 2:30 and then finish want I needed to. At 2:30 I found myself at the end of Part 1 and I knew I couldn't leave off there. Thinking I would just skim the beginning of Part 2 to see where we were at I read until the end of the book. Well worth having to wake up early today to finish all the things I didn't get done while reading.
