Good read for those seeking some insights into the alternative world of Ray Peat. While the author often uses the do-what-feels-good-for-you argument he succeeds in giving a concise write up of the so called 'Peatarian diet'. I have yet to find another source online that does it in a digestible way.

excellent short read

After reading ray peat, I was curious about all the coding he made because it’s just so contrary to everything I’ve been taught. So I ended up in a Ray Peat forum and let me tell you, some of those people have lost it. They go way too crazy with Ray Peat stuff. This is a good book for recovering from ray Peat forum ptsd :)

Good review - slightly repetitive

I appreciated that the book was very easy to read. It gave a great summary of Ray Peats work without too much of the in depth science. My only criticism is that he repeatedly states that we should do what feels right for our own bodies and not follow a rigid dietary plan. While I appreciate the sentiment, it doesn’t need to be stated over and over again.

Great read

Having read this gave me such a comforting feeling. We underestimate how restrictive diets (even if have been proved to work by millions and swear by it) can be so detrimental.

Excellent synthesis, thank you!

Excellent synthesis, thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed how you broke down in a straightforward fashion what can be overwhelming to dig through in Dr. Peats articles. Well done, thank you!

I wish someone had mentioned this book on the various Peat FB groups a few months back. I think it is a great synopsis, and a balanced one. Instead, everyone talks about Heal Your Metabolism which is also good, but this one is a better introduction for someone just wanting the bones.

quick and simple summary

I didn’t know who Ray Peat was but I found this book while searching for other books related to healing the metabolism. I appreciate the author’s commentary on helping me to understand another non-conventional dietary point of view without the dogma.

It seems like the author tries to assemble money with clickbait or its literary equivalent.

I enjoyed this book! A good comprehensive view of Peat’s ideas and a good overall take on diet culture and ‘how to eat’ as a whole!

This book is mid. Heh, yeah doing a lil’ Gen Z-ism.

So, when I looked Peat up, this was the only thing out (on paper) I could find at the time, and I am grateful for that. (Looking now, it appears there are better options.). But it’s so short, like a pamphlet & there’s not much information density there. It’s got the essential info boiled down, but often mostly just the whats, very few whys or hows. For instance, in one case he points out how Peat thought insoluble fiber was estrogenic & to be avoided, but then he gives no information as to why Peat thought seratonin is bad!

Also, quite frankly for a book that can be read in half an hour if you’re focused and determined, half the time the author is waffling about not taking the information as dogma or falling for the cult of Peat. Which is fine and noteworthy to mention once, but the guy just does it over, and over and over to the point where it’s pretty obvious he’s projecting his own neuroses or anxieties surrounding his former eating disorders onto the reader. That gets old.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A really great and accessible summation of Dr. Ray Peat’s work. This was easy to understand and digest with quick and practical application while also honoring the ability to adapt and change based on your body and what it needs. I have been following several of these principles for almost two years now and I will say I feel better and more nourished than I ever have in my life. Still a long road ahead of healing and change, but the progress I have made and the way I feel makes it easy to keep going.

🥕 “Trust in the natural intelligence of your body to heal, to adjust, and to signal you with its needs that change from one moment to the next.”

🥕 “Steer clear of absolutism.”

🥕 “Understand that things change.”

🥕 “Also, understand that everything doesn’t have to be an instant fix. Some things take time.”

Decent Book overall.

I suppose due to its short voluminous nature it doesn’t strictly cover Ray Peats ideology, but rather gives a general idea of his philosophy when it comes to diet.

Unfortunately even then it doesn’t wrap major aspects of Ray Peats endocrinology and thyroid issues that can be fixed with dietary regime, the book mainly consists of trail and error “eat and do what makes you feel great”, contrary to giving you detailed information on what one should consume and avoid.

I recommend going on forums such as RayPeats forum and browse thoroughly learning actual specific info concerning such topic.

I wish more Peat-fanatics out there would read a good, balanced book like this one.
