I really don't understand all of these 5 star reviews. This book is awful to read. Bounces around from chapter to chapter going backward in time and forward in time and then the present. Hard to wrap your mind around the redefinition of what the world is and isn't. And then some 500 pages into it the book ends and no it is not a standalone novel!

Wow. Must read.

I cannot wait to read the sequel. What a fantastic find, I haven't been this genuinely excited about a storyline in years. It's an epic battle of good vs evil but not good, or evil, that we have ever seen before. Spanning different era's, dimensions (or rather frequencies) and species, dealing with segregation, racism, morality, government, religion and education systems, cynically viewing human nature at its' finest and its' worst in an honest and refreshing whirlwind of a fantastic plot. I have a feeling we have only scratched the surface of what has come, I will be recommending this book to everyone and anyone, brilliant read.

Great story

Loved the way you wrote this, getting the views from the perspective of everyone involved, while having the reader being able to relate to their different view points. Character development was on point and there are also some seemingly dead ends that when looked at shows they play towards further development of the story. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to more from you .

Confusing at first

Initially the story was hard to follow. It could use a index with all the various name and role. Luckily once I start a book I have to finish. The story line started to make sense a out half way through. I fought many of the reference s but not all. Maybe different names for the 13 would be less confusing.

Excellent!

Wow! What a book! I wasn’t expecting to be drawn into this world but man! Was I ever.. I was a bit put off at first by the jumping around in time, but as the story went on I understood the necessity. The back stories are integral to the story. A great character in Shane and I look forward to following his and Ember’s story.

Riveting and scary

The story is original and lets your imagination take off. It kept me in suspense every time I had to put my device away. I really want to know how these defenders of the human race will defeat this evil. So Good, thank you

Attrition of the Gods is an awesome read. So many unexpected twists, turns, & jaw dropping moments. The sewer ride and the transportation tubes have to be the most interesting. It has some grammatical/spelling errors, but it's still a great story. I can't wait to read the next book.

Very interesting concept, great execution, themes and commentary. only brought down by some typos - I imagine the author is a one man army. Doesn't seem to be a sequel in sight that finishes the story 😞

A Roller Coaster : Past, Present and Future

This was a gripping story going back and forth in time building the characters. The story correlates with actual events of the world and captures the reader describing a potential future for human kind.

This book bounces around and is incredibly hard to follow. I kept with it, hoping it would get better but it never did.

Attrition of the Gods by P. C. Burns is the first book in the mystery thriller series "Gods Toys." Many conspiracy theorists believe a small group of individuals controls the world's events and money; P. C. Burns's take is that this secretive group comprises Djinns and Arc Hons, superior sentient beings playing a game for the control of the world. To these beings, humans are inferior creatures, Gods' toys that can be manipulated for the benefit of the game. Fortunately, there are Watchers who supervise these entities to ensure that they play by the rules.

When the rules are broken and mankind seems doomed, something or someone (a watcher?) helps mankind regain its footing and battle the Djinns and Arc Hons. Who is assisting mankind is unknown at the end of this book. Will it be revealed in book 2?

In addition to the supernatural characters, the author introduces humans who, I believe, will be major players in the subsequent books. Though I enjoyed the character and plot developments of this first book, I felt the story was incomplete. There were a lot of beginnings: the individual stories, the background leading to the upcoming battles, and the story of the Djinns and Arc Hons, but there were no major conflicts and no conclusions. It is as if this book were a prelude for what is to come.

I recommend this book for adults (language) who enjoy a dark fantasy with a social commentary and who are willing to wait for the second book for the rest of the story.

I won this book thru the Goodreads giveaway program and I would like to thank the author.

This is a dark fantasy novel which tells the story that humans are not in control of their destiny like they thought. The Djinn is behind the scenes and pulling the strings of all the major events and leaders throughout history. Basically, they are playing a game of chess while we are the pawns.

I enjoyed the premise of this novel and I really enjoyed his human characters as the author does a good job with their portrayal of how little we know. I liked how he uses important events and historical figures to portray his point and nothing was off limits. The story ranged from Jesus Christ to today with Isis. I did think that some of his Djinn characters could have used a little more differentiation as some of them did not stand out. I will give one warning. This is a dark book that has several dark scenes that are not for the faint of heart.

For a debut novel I was really impressed by this author. I did have to lower my rating because of a pet peeve of mine where a book just ends and there is no resolution to any story arcs. I think a well written book has an ending but still a cliffhanger to entice the reader to continue the series. That being said, I enjoyed this premise and it could lead to an exciting series.

This is an exciting, suspense-filled book! The story bounces back and forth between place and time - as in WAY back and forth, from several centuries ago to the year 2146 AD. With names such as Jesus, Judas, Hitler and Marco Polo scattered throughout, plus ISIS, Muslims, and Jihad, a sense of reality somehow overlaps with fantasy, leaving the reader to wonder and question history. Conspiracy theorists will love it - lots of points to question, potential hints about past and future events, and it almost takes a score card to keep up with the people and events. This is the first in a series and no doubt readers who finish this installment will be eager to read more - I know I am!

I keep wavering between 4 and 5 stars on this one!

The way the author took different beliefs, legends, and myths, and brought them together for one riveting story really grabbed hold of me and didn't let go!

There were two powerful, emotional scenes in particular that I think might be a trigger for some (I had to put the book down for a bit and walk away), but I honestly felt like they truly added to the story and character development, rather than being thrown in for shock value.

I loved it, can't wait for more!

Bob says: 4.5 Platypires!

Wow.

I came across this book on a daily email of free and cheap ebooks, read the blurb and figured 'why not? If it sucks at least it was free'. Wrong. Very wrong. From the very first page I was enthralled. PG Burns has created a cancel all your plans, read until dawn, thought provoking, did he really just say that, this guy is some sort of genius-type world with this first book. I cannot wait for the next one.

Great Sci-fi, Fantasy, Mystery Thriller with a grand view of the present and future (and slightly twisted but interesting take)

Fast paced with interesting character development which keeps you guessing, pulling you along. Hard to put down. I recommend this book highly. I want the rest of the series!

Whoa....

First glance making me dubious as to its level of interesting, I truly couldn't put it down!
Absorbing this new take on past, present and future was complicated while also being as simple as breathing. This book truly grabs your attention, sucks you into its reality & changes your view of EVERYTHING!
Don't hesitate, buy this book & prepare to be engrossed. Promise.

No pay off

Ultimately a story, even one in a planned serial, should have an arc with a beginning middle and end. This story does not. Secondly one needs to be invested in at least one character and want to know what happens to him or her. Attrition of the Gods does neither for me.

Great read

I had never heard of this author, but it was a free download so I thought I would give it a try. I'm so glad I did. Attrition of the gods was fast paced, well written, interesting, and held my attention all the way through.

Great Alternate History

I was not entirely sold on this book from the preview, but decided to download it anyway. After just a short while, I couldn't put it down. I was truly disappointed that it had to end.

The cadence used to release pieces of information about the plot and characters is masterful and artistic. If you are at all into a good storyline, sci-fi, and alternate histories, this is a must read.
