VAMPIRES YOU'VE NEVER ENJOYED SO WELL... Welcome to the Kingdom. ……she must surrender everything she is… to win her truest desire….. A sleeper waiting. Atlyn is an apprentice to the greatest dancer in the kingdom. All her life she dreamed of being trained to dance as her mother had before her. What seemed like a dream come true turned out to be her living nightmare. Petty jealousy and past rivalries have left Atlyn with nowhere to go, and no one to turn to. Denied her most basic needs, forced to live a colorless life, suffering in unrequited desire. Atlyn is but a shell of the female she was meant to be. Honor bound. Sayber is the trusted Reticine of the greatest dancer in the kingdom. He has served his mistress well, but can he continue to live the half-life he’s bound to? His body cries out with the need to take what is his. How could the Ritual deny him his heart’s true purpose? He would give anything to possess her, anything to keep her safe. He might have to give everything if he means to claim her for his own.
Mercy is passionate about a lot of things, but writing is definitely the top of the list. Having traveled near and far she's fascinated with the details of life and bubbling with stories both sensual and magical. She was bitten by the writing bug at a very young age and continues to pursue her goal of writing full time. She enjoys living her own adventures but often finds herself getting lost in the adventures of her characters. Dedicated to perfecting her craft, and enjoying all that life has to offer, she looks forward to the next story with the practiced avarice of a seasoned connoisseur. Living in northern California doesn’t give her too many opportunities to hobnob with the undead, but that doesn’t stop her from imagining what it would be like. She hopes to continue her travels, both physical and mental, and dreams of being swept away into the romance of life.
I downloaded this on a free promotion but I am so glad I did. It was original and exciting to read. As a beginning to a series I loved it and can't wait to see what happens now for Sayber and Atlyn. I loved the Glossary of Terms at the beginning giving an explanation of the terms used in the story. Balanced characters, violence that was believable and sex scenes that were so hot I almost dropped the pages on the floor. Looking forward to part 2
This is my first Mercedes Bleau book - and now that she is on my radar - I hope to read more. She brings to life the world of vampires and their rules - it looks as though it might be a bit intimidating when you see the glossary, but this helps you understand the characters a bit more - especially because the book is both a quick read and fast paced.
In this wonderful bit of yumminess we meet Atlyn - she is a dancer (or is an apprentice), she works tirelessly for a vampire named Myca - she is a sadistic bitch. Sayber is Myca's second, he knows what she is and allows himself to be used. However, both Sayber and Atlyn - know that they are soul mates and must find a way to be together.
Ms. Bleau's writing is fast paced, descriptive and smoking hot! That being said if you are in the market for a PN romance that is a quick hot read - I recommend this one!
I am an independent reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock
A dark and erotic read - if this is not your drink of choice I would avoid taking a taste! They are fated mates kept apart by sworn duty and a jealous dark antagonist - To what extent are they willing to go to be together even if it is not in body but only in spirit? I am not sure how this world is supposed to work as this was the first book in the series I felt it lacked in providing the background necessary to understand why things were - I did discover something though and ended up rereading the book because of it - I will suggest reading the glossary in its entirety - I found that had I read it first instead of glossing over it -I would have understood a lot more of the scenes This for me was nothing even remotely like the BDB or the Midnight Breed series - I have to say it stands in a class of its own
**I received this book in a Goodreads First Reads Giveaway.**
I liked this book. I didn't LOVE this book. I like vampire stories. I like erotic fiction. The sex scenes were reasonably hot. But something about it didn't quite resonate with me. It might have to do with the fact that - even in erotica - I like for there to be a little story/back story/whatever before the actual sex starts. And this book wasn't like that.
I got this novella in exchange for a review. The author has set up an entire vampire society with rules of living. Atlyn, a young dancer, is prevented by her Mistress from proceeding through another life phase. Sayber, her mate, is stuck in his role of Reticine to her Mistress. It's a good story but hampered by the readers' ability each position and what they mean. Book #2 will be much better having adjusted to terminology in Book #1.
This is a dark and erotic read with different look at vampires. If that in itself makes you uncomfortable stop right there. If you like steamy, sultry, sexy books then I suggest you read this one. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
While a quick and steamy read, and as different from your average vampire story, I just could not connect with this kind of erotica. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I have never read one of Mercedes Bleau’s books before so I was going into this a little blind. Flipping through the book I found the Glossary at the start of it…wow intimidating. Not many fiction writers use a glossary but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and I was kind of glad it was there. I did have to flip back to the glossary to find out what was signification about the terms and the structure of the vampires hierarchy and relationships a few times. It’s kind of complicated but an interesting world that Bleau is building. Flipping back and forth did interrupt the flow of the story a little bit for me until I got the terms down.
I thought it was an interesting concept to have the Todesgeist’s be more of an incubus/succubus type vampire that feed off sexual energy rather than the average blood sucking vampire. If Bleau had left it at that I would have liked the overall story better. The story was a little more twisted and wicked for my tastes. I am not really a fan of the whole punishment for pleasure thing. Myca’s kind of punishment pretty much crossed the line into straight out torture a few times which I didn’t care for at all. Myca had a sadistic side and she really didn’t like Atlyn but the things she did to her throughout the story bothered me. The ways Myca punished Sayber was just as distributing if not more. These were people Myca was suppose to take care of.
Maybe I am missing something and Bleau’s other books aren’t as twisted and this was just a fluke I don’t know but this was not the kind of erotica that I like. The good news is that Sayber claims Atlyn at the end so it at least has a happy ending…even for Myca.
I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway.
Vampires and sex. What a book! These vampires need sex to be able to feed and survive. The only thing I didn't like was the violence in their punishments.I know"welcome to the dark side"-I am aware of what I am reading about.I liked her idea that they could fight for their freedom and it would be honored(like with Sayber,Layte, and Myca). The idea that they were looking for their soulmates and once found could stay with them was nice.See not all ideas about vampires are barbaric ones!I can't wait for Lusten to be released.
This was a quick fast, steamy hot read. The author has created an interesting vampire world. The two main characters Atlyn and Sayber are under the thumb of a cruel mistress called Myca. There are some scenes of violence/torture which some will find disturbing. The ending is a good one for all the characters. I received this book through a Goodreads giveaway. Thanks!
This is a Goodreads win review. This is a vampire romance story, outside of what I usually read but I am expanding my horizons in reading. The start of the book has a glossary of words to describe things and that is very helpful in understanding the book.
This was a quick, steamy read. Not familiar with this author and didn't know what to expect when I received. This was an interesting story with vampires and their orders. Appreciated the glossary at the beginning of the story because a couple of times I had to reference what the character was. Very erotic in the sex scenes and there is some sadism as well so if you can't handle this and slang words for body parts this is NOT the book for you. She did manage to create a love story that was captivating and I would like to see how Sayber and Atlyn's story turned out, if they were able to live in peace and harmony and if the sadistic Myca ever got what was coming to her evil soul. I won this book in a goodreads giveaway thank you!
