Erin Hunter is inspired by a love of cats and a fascination with the ferocity of the natural world. As well as having a great respect for nature in all its forms, Erin enjoys creating rich mythical explanations for animal behavior, shaped by her interest in astronomy and standing stones.
I was a bit hesitant to read this after the first Dawn of the Clans book. The Sun Trail was maybe a three-star read for me. But Thunder Rising was infinitely better. Firstly, there's more action. In the first book, it's just a lot of journeying and survival and stuff. Which isn't bad, but not always interesting. This had a lot more action going on and is therefore more interesting and therefore better.
Clear Sky has got to be the best (or is it worst, because he's so creepy) Warriors villain to date. You think Tigerclaw, Brokenstar, Hawk Frost, Mapleshade were bad? Meet Clear Sky. I think what makes him so awesomely scary is that somewhere in that twisted head of his he truly believes he's doing the right thing. You see, Tigerclaw may have been scary but he was just one-sidedly evil. Clear Sky is more complex and thus a better villain.
I also like that there's more character development. I thought in the first book, Gray Wing was kind of bland. But we see a lot more of him in this book and I'm starting to really like him. I also like Thunder, I can tell he's a character I will really like.
And the instalove that was between Gray Wing and Storm in the first book is replaced by the romance between Gray Wing and Turtle Tail, which I (and I don't usually say this about romances) definitely approve of. Gray Wing and Turtle Tail. I definitely ship them. Because there is absolutely no instalove here. It's a romance that slowly grew over time from friendship to love. And I definitely like that.
Essential, every single problem I had with the first book is resolved in Thunder Rising. So why not five stars? I'm stingy with five star ratings. Sorry :( But overall, I really enjoyed Thunder Rising and highly recommend it.
The first time I read a Warriors book I was 9 year old, and these books made me fall in love with reading.
Now at 15 I continue to read these books despite them obviously being geared towards children the same age as I was when I began my Warriors journey. This summer, before reading the Sun Trail, I re-read the entire main series and still found myself able to enjoy the wonderful world Erin Hunter has created.
Unfortunately, I seem to have set my expectation too high for this latest book. The problem wasn't that it was geared towards middle school children; it was that the writing was bad. Especially in the middle, I noticed a switching from 3rd person to 1st person in what was supposed to be thoughts. It's perfectly okay to use 1st person in thoughts when the rest of the novel is in 3rd person, but to sometimes have thoughts 3rd person and sometimes 1st? I was confused.
The dawn of the clans is coming, but if the original 2 writers in the quartet that is Erin hunter don't re-take their series I might not be able to read through to the end.
I was so excited when I got this book. I read it until it was like, 11 something PM. And wow, this book has a lot of things changing around. The key characters for the clans are popping up everywhere, but I thought that River Ripple's appearance was just kind of random and it didn't go too smoothly with that. Anyway, an awesome book! I wonder what happens to Thunder and Frost. They'll probably get rejected by the cats on the moor. Things are getting... more to the point of war. I really hope the next book will quench my thirst for suspense, doing things (not much happened in this book, which was disappointing, but it was still amazing), and some bloodshed. I did not think that the third person to first person change during thoughts was confusing. Things are pretty empty here in the Dawn of the Clans, things are changing. It's really awesome to see how things are coming together, things like that. Awesome. I'm missing a little of the ways of the clans yet, and the warrior code. I wonder how those were made up. Waiting for the next book is gonna take ages!
Huh, pretty good but felt a touch like a filler. Nice to have Thunder's point of view for a couple of chapters, and I have a lot of sympathy for Gray Wing.
I can see all the cats coming together with the Clan names (Thunder, Shadow, River, Wind), but I'm not sure who is going to end up where. I was (and still am) convinced that Gray Wing is a Windclan cat at heart, but he's in the "Shadow" camp. Then there's Clear Sky, who's a bit of a power-hungry dick, but is still differentiable from, say, Hawkfrost or Tigerclaw. I thought his clan was going to end up as Thunderclan, but it doesn't look like the books are heading that way.
Audiobook. This episode continues to tell the story of the rise of the clans. It’s slow to start because we have not yet grown accustomed to the characters. The second half of the book is very fast paced, and the personality traits associated with the four clans start to emerge.

honestly there’s so many good characters in this and they made gray wing and a hyperactive toddler the protagonists
give me river ripple pov, tall shadow pov, clear sky pov, wind pov, literally anybody else pov
this honestly deserved 2 stars but i bumped it up bcs it was pretty entertaining, and by introducing thunder they made gray stripe less annoying by association. like i would’ve ditched gray wing for clear sky too just saying, but thunder really made that his only goal in life
also there’s sa in this book thought you should know 😁

I love this series just so much!! I’m mad that my new favorite character already DIED, like seriously. But other than that I really love all the warrior cat books and I can’t wait to read the next book!
It was good. Not the best in the series but still good. I highly recommend this series! The library was taking a while to get the book in and then I noticed that It wasn't at the library anymore so I just finished the book that's why it took so much longer than usual!
This one had a little bit of a slow start compared to the first one. The second half however went pretty fast and I am really excited for the next one!
I liked this book more than the first. Gray Wing is still growing on me, I did not like his indecisiveness. But the side characters make up for it quite well, Turtle Tail seems more interesting and Thunder has some cool character growth. (Jagged Peak is the poor loser of the group tbh.)
It's interesting to figure who will found which clan.

Before i decided that i was going to reread the warrior’s series in order but i didn’t end up picking the second book at the library. Now i decided to get back on warriors because lately everything i read wasn’t hooking me for some reason.
Reading this reminds me how much i love warriors. The series is a mess but it still has characters that i care for that are trying to survive.
Compare to other books Dawn of the clans is a breath of fresh air. They constantly go against rules of warriors with new characters. “Borders are unnecessary”, “kits can learn to fight”, “no ranks”. “No starclan yet”, “more death”, “groups still developing”, “no prophecies yet”
I don’t care for starclan so it is kinda nice for them to not be present. The same cats usually end up showing up repeatedly and it kinda defeats the purpose of a cat dieing. Also i don’t like “we have to do it because starclan said so”. Especially in omen of the stars when it is revealed that Starclan is not all powerful and can have bad calls. The prophecy meaning debate is not that fun.
In this book the groups split into two: Moor cats and Forest cats. There is tension between the two groups. The first book was mostly a journey and try not to die book. This book gets more action. We got Thunder as a perspective, which is Clear sky’s son. Which is interesting seeing his thoughts about his father.
The excitement still carried on from the previous book with the constant cliffhangers at the end of chapters. What can I say? Bumble was robbed, the fact that she wasn’t allowed to join the wild cats because of her origins was just a horrible excuse (compared to similar situations in other arcs) and she ended up DYING from their lack of hospitality. But as a strong point in this second book, I’m so glad to see Grey Wing becoming a stepdad and the way that his relationship with the kits is portrayed, as well as with Turtle Tail. To explain the rating, I personally thought that this book lacked something. Unlike the last one which followed the cats from the mountains, this one was more about the growing conflicts between the two camps. Oh and there was a fire for like four chapters (where were the humans to extinguish it??? A forest is burning), that’s pretty much it except the fact that now every cat is suffering and the main character has asthma from smoke following the incident. As an additional thing I found interesting, this book allowed us to witness the true corruption of Clear Sky, resorting to murder sometimes but still having redeeming qualities. Really don’t know what to expect in the next book and I can confidently say that I’m excited to read it still. But I’m so glad that the books and the clans are starting to settle and look more like the clans that we know.

Book theme song: Hey Brother by Avicii In which Clear Sky becomes borderline irredeemable. Clear Sky scares me because I know people like him. People who prioritize what they see as the survival of the group to the exclusion of minority rights. These are the type of people who move to another lunch table when the autistic kid goes to sit with them. Ostracizing and excluding the disabled is so often seen as a nonissue. It's not a nonissue for the people on the receiving end of it. This is why I love the Warrior Cats series, because Clear Sky's actions are portrayed as villainous and not a logical way to ensure the survival of the group. Later in the timeline, the Warrior Code ensures that every cat has a place in the Clan regardless of their hunting ability.
(SPOILERS FOR THE WHOLE SERIES AS I DO NOT REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED IN WHAT BOOK)
I love the change between Graywing and Clearsky. Two brothers who have both been through heck and they react completely oppositely. Clearsky acts out of fear. He has to protect what’s his and he will at the cost of anything. Even his son and brother. Graywing on the other hand knows the only way to survive is to HELP each other not compete with each other.
