In a bleak near-future, where a select few have been born with the ability to see events before they happen, Kaoru Jacobs has a simple job. He is an assassin. He kills, waits for his next assignment and then he kills again. On December 2, 2049, Kaoru receives his next Renata Cambridge, head of the Artemis militia group. A woman who has been dead for over twenty years. The assignment means the resurrection of a secret time travel project and a journey back to 2014. Failure will result in his being stranded in a time where he does not belong and a paradox that might just kill him.

‘The Jigsaw Man ranks amongst the very best debut thrillers – we’re talking top-ten territory here – I’ve read this past decade… It evokes, vibrantly and indelibly, a world I’ve never even glimpsed, much less entered – neither in literature nor in life… Matheson’s voice is exciting, urgent… and, now more than ever, vital’ A.J. I very rarely pick up Science Fiction but I gave this one a go because I loved Nadine Matheson's first novel, The Sisters.
So, what did I think? Brilliant! Absolutely left hanging and dying to read the novella continuing this story which comes out this year. I can't wait! I'm not quite a convert to Sci-Fi but Renata has got me on the road there :).
I got this story as a free download on Amazon last week and to be honest I'm not a fan of sci-fi but I liked the writers debut novel 'The Sisters' (which is so not sci-fi) and thought that I would give her a short story a try. It was so good. Some bits were a bit predictable but it was again well written, the characters were well developed. I really liked the main character Kaoru who is the poor assassin who has to go back to the past and assassinate Renata, a girl who really doesn't have a clue. As a Londoner, I enjoyed Nadine Matheson's descriptions of places that I had been to. Without revealing any spoilers the story ends on a cliffhanger and it would be good to see the story continue.
