I was born in Houston Texas and have spent half my life here in Texas and the other half, at different times, in Idaho and Utah. I love to travel and have been lucky enough to go to London and Scotland. The world is a big beautiful place and I would love to be able to see it all one day. I have one dog, he's a black lab, and I love him to bits. I am lucky to have most of my family close by which I love. I also love horses and horseback riding!
I have had a lot of different jobs since starting to work at sixteen. I have even had five jobs at once, which I wouldn't recommend! My current job is being a nanny, and working part, part time at a bookstore. I love being a nanny not only because I love "my" kids but it also provides writing time! I am an avid reader and this year alone I have read over 200 books. Reading is so important and I am always trying to encourage people to read more.
I really loved the unique world that was starting to be built in this book. The love story was very captivating and refreshing, some male characters start off very distant but Cavin was very loving and sincere from the beginning. I also loved Tera's personality, she is completely relatable and down to earth. I cannot wait to see what's in store for book 2 and where the story goes from here!! It's definitely a great read and worth taking a chance on a new author. You won't be disappointed.
Great read!!! And I promise no spoilers. Gretchen led me straight into the character's worlds and I could not put the book down. The interaction between the two main characters is fantastic, even the awkward moments. I would recommend this book to anyone that reads Teen Fantasy Adventure and Teen Romance. When the book ended, all I could think is what happens next.
Great introduction to this amazing new author. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next.
I liked this novel. Enter Tera who has lost her Mother and has a Dad that lives to drink. Along comes a handsome young man claiming to be a knight and he informs her her Mother isn't dead, but an elvin queen. Talk about surprises when he then tells Tera she is a princess who will one day rule. He has come to protect her from those wanting to rule the Elvins themselves and their mission is to kill the Princess. Thus their love story and adventures in her discovering her gifts. Left off with a cliff hanger leaving me wanting the next book. Thanks to Gretchen Dee and Goodreads
This was a great read! It was nice how gretchen wasn't too wordy. There are some authors who are just too wordy for me and she was not one of them! The humor through out the book was awesome. So funny and witty. I recommend the book to people who read YA fantasy!
Almost a year ago I discovered A little Box of Joy on Instagram. Gretchen makes personal bookboxes, based on a questionnaire you fill out. The boxes I've gotten from her so far all were incredibly amazing and I loved each and every one of them, but Gretchen does more. She also writes her own stories. And somehow I ended up winning one of her giveaways.
On Thursday I finally thought it was the right time to read this story and I sat down for it. What I first noticed was that the lay out of the book was unconventional, but really nice, although the book itself is quite heavy to hold. And when I started reading, I discovered that it would be a very easy read.
Gretchen's writing style is really straight to the point. It's not really literal and follows mostly our natural speech and think patterns. This makes it very easy and quick to read, although this sometimes resulted in some repetition. It also made that the book consisted of a lot of tell don't show. The emotions were named, but not really described and for me that created a certain distance between me and the story and characters.
The storyline however was very entertaining. I remember that this was what I dreamed about when I was 16, what I hoped for when I was in high school and why I read books. There were a lot of elements from the main character reminding me of myself and although the plot was not that outstanding or special, it did hold my attention and surprisingly enough never really bored me.
Although I think that there is a lot Gretchen can improve when it comes to character development, plot building and writing style, I do think it was quite an entertaining read and there were enough elements I liked to make me enjoy the story, the characters and the book in general.
Wow. I’m new to this author and I have to say I’m impressed! I would definitely let my daughter read this because it’s what I call a “soft” young adult paranormal romance. It’s totally appropriate for her to read at her age (she’s a very mature 11 almost 12) it was in my opinion beautifully written. It’s a excellent start for a series. It was beautiful and sad and the end will gut you. It was definitely a heart wrenching ending but strong. There’s a element of danger and a white knight :) a slow easy decent into young love and some twists that will make you gasp in shock lol Tera sure did. It was a enjoyable read and I’m definitely looking forward to what happens next. I need to know if what happened is real or if it is gonna be a shocking but exciting beginning for book 2. There’s no doubt about it the ending will have you desperate for the next book. All in all a extremely easy read because the words just flow beautifully and you can’t put it down. Before you realize it you’re reading the last page and I kept turning the last page looking for more haha. Excellent display of writing.
I would have liked have to seen more action in this book. Its very much character driven. What I liked. The FMC actually acts her age. And the MMC respects her and is waiting on her consent.
What I feel like takes away from the book is it repeats the same things over and over.
