Honestly, this story is a bit weak compared to other titles from this author that I've read before (seven unfortunate lifetimes, heart protection, the parting of the orchid & Cang, Sansheng). But it was a quick short read with a happy ending, so I could not complain.

A decent Chinese fantasy novel, but I wanted there to be more romance and was disappointed with the book in that regard.
I was very amused by the first couple chapters, where the MC Shen Li is gravely injured and recuperates her powers on earth in her natural form, which unfortunately for her resembles that of a plucked chicken. The ML, Xing Yun, is a man who picks her up from the market and saves her from being cooked into soup on multiple occasions. Their interactions in the beginning of the story were great and is what convinced me to keep reading.
Sadly, I found the rest of the story to be honestly not that interesting, and it was hard for me to get through. After recovering her powers, the MC returns to her home in the Demon Realm and has limited interactions with the ML, who is actually the only god remaining and is held in high esteem by both the Heaven and Demon Realms. Her return kicks off the rest of the story and eventually we learn about how her past is related to the group of powerful monsters attacking the world, but it was all quite underwhelming.
I was looking for a good fantasy read with plenty of romance, and that's definitely not what I got with this book. I could've overlooked the subpar romance plot if the rest of the story had been more interesting, but sadly this book falls short on all fronts for me.

Leerlo y ver su drama, “The legend of Shen Li”, fue de los momentos más felices de mi vida en estos días.
Conocer a Shen Li, una mujer tan fuerte, valiente, frontal, digna y firme son características que quieres admirar eternamente. Con una voz y espíritu determinado coherente a un corazón noble y cálido.
Su amor con Xing Zhi, acompañada de sus reflexiones y decisiones hacen de esta una historia linda de apreciar y disfrutar. Un romance en el que ellos se trataron como iguales. Donde ambos eran tan poderosos, sin miedo a revelar sus vulnerabilidades y sostuvieron con honestidad aguardar los mismos deseos de protección mutua. Aún si aquello implicaba revelarse ante los cielos y los reinos, en su confianza y conocimiento sabían que decidirían con el corazón y la mente. Cumplirían sus deberes pero también no se traicionarían así mismos.
Solo ellos podrían verse y hallarse como genuinamente son dentro de sus miradas.
Su novela fue hermosa y su adaptación aún más. Su drama nos permitió conocer mejor aún a personajes cómo Fu Rong y You Lan, disfrutar de los épicos enfrentamientos, efectos y canciones.

Born into the demon world, Shen Li, a powerful immortal General, flies from a political marriage and falls into the human world in her phoenix form. She encounters the sickly human Xing Yun, and from then on, their destined are intertwined as they navigate the three realms.
This Xianxia is laden with revenge, betrayal, truth and defying fate - Jiu Lu Fei Xiang is skilled at infusing a satirical humor which balances the pure devastation that reigns most Xianxia. Amidst the context of war, our female lead is one of the best crafted - with sharp instinct, she does what it needs to protect her people while being unapologetically herself. Her interactions with the male lead (Xing Yun) are mature and down-to-earth, a highlight of this novel since it doesn't feel flowery. What is most exciting is that the battle scenes feel cinematic as if I could see them right in front of my eyes, in a plot in which ruthlessness blends with tender moments.
What's the meaning of living?
Trust me if I say that this Xianxia is unlike any other, leaving remarkable memories in one's heart. (ps: the epilogues caring for the side characters just emphasize the wholesomeness of this story)

January 29, 2023DNF but I really like this author. She's great at writing likeable female protagonists and short stories that pack a huge emotional punch. I love how her stories bring you through a rollercoaster of emotions like hilarity, heartbreak, sweetness, etc. I completely didn't realize she's the author behind the extremely popular Blue Whisper and Love Between Fairy and the Devil. She writes the best xuanhuan! Anyway I DNF'ed because I seriously feel that this author excels at short stories. Her longer novels are kind of draggy and it's hard to feel invested.

Definitely a case of "she fell first, but he feel harder"
The violent general×calm diety dynamic was comfortingly entertaining.
While I enjoyed my journey with this book, it could have definitely been shorter and had a much tighter plot with less fillers.
Anyways, I look forward to starting the live-action adaptation soon.

文中太多矛盾的地方，如果只是消遣的看，确实挺杀时间的。开头立意挺好的，是一个自强勇敢的女主，也有点小毛病，比如有的时候过于残忍了，一个上古神，清心寡欲，身负大道，但是越往后面就越落入俗套，情情爱爱就会影响大道，如果是神明，他心中有的是大爱，也就是可以兼容所有的爱，而不是因为个人情爱就会被所谓的天道反噬。天道这个设定在这里也是一个笑话，如果那么大能力，何苦造神，直接一挥手把所有事情都设定解决好。

Came to read after finishing the drama, which I realise was a brilliant and faithful adaptation, both book and drama are fantastic and the characters come alive, will re-read and re-watch ❤️

As the Azure Sky Queen who was born with a pearl residing in her mouth, Shen Li’s life was always bright and dazzling. However, with her upcoming thousandth birthday, the demonic claws of a political marriage swiftly stretched towards her, catching her unaware.
The Celestial Emperor residing in the Heavens had given a heavenly edict – the Azure Sky Queen shall be engaged and married to the thirty-third grandson of the Celestial Emperor, Fu Rong.
But Fu Rong was infamous throughout the realms for his Casanova personality. As the King who called the shots in the demonic realm, she had the ability to quell uprisings and end wars with a swing of her silver spear – there was absolutely no way she would marry that flirtatious idiot! She must escape from this marriage!
Shen Li never once thought that during her escape journey, she would meet a man who doesn’t belong to the three realms and the five elements. That man was truly an… oddball.

I love the way the author's writes her characters and the plot of the story. The wording and descriptions of everything makes the story flow very well where you don't get confused as to what just happened and that's what I like about it. 😁 This story is about a female warrior god, Shen Li, who's also a king. She starts at the top of the chain in this story, which is different from other Chinese novels I've read with a female protagonist starting at the bottom pit and working her way up. The story starts off with her escaping her arranged marriage made by the Jade Emperor of Heaven and the King of Hell(?) in an alliance for peace between the three worlds (Heaven, Hell, Demon World) and her encounters with a mystery man she meets in her life during her stay in the mortal world. There's going to be lot's of comic relief moments in the beginning, but the story does start to take a series turn of events later on into the novel. I should also note that the demons are not portrayed as the usual "evil" we all see in these Chinese novels. Here, they are part of the God and immortal race. Later into the novel when you read on, you'll find out more interesting things about the Demon race role in these three worlds and the importance they have, including Shen Li's role in this whole train of events. Anyways, things later get complicated as she returns back to her world and faces her arranged marriage head on. I'm going to be honest here, I don't like her arranged betrothed so far and I feel like I won't ever like him. Also, about the mystery man: he's all mystery. A quirky and interesting character. That's all I got to say about him and you'll love his character. 🤣
Another thing, I like that the author writes how the female protagonist perceives love in a realistic way that most people do in reality.
This story is very chill and straight to the point when needed, but gives you the mysteriousness to keep you on your toes wanting more! 😍 If anyone is putting this story on hold to read, READ IT because you're missing out on such wonderful main leads and plot wise!
Also, here's a short advice to new readers: Don't go in reading with high standards because of this review, but go in and read with an open mind. I know, not everyone enjoys the same genres - but it's better to not set your standards high or else you won't enjoy the story. Happy reading! 😉

Title: “Accompanying the Phoenix,” aka “The Legend of Shen Li” (drama)
It’s an entertaining read and with memorable characters and a very good storyline starting with comedy in the opening chapters to the later action section. The romance arrived too slowly coming in the last fifth of the novel. But, it was worth the wait.
Description: “Of the ancient gods, only one remained in the world. This god lived alone for thousands of years and no longer had any desires. Legend has it that—during the great war between the worlds—he used his powers to turn the tide, managing to seal the cataclysmic rift and bring order back into the three realms. Time flew by and hundreds of years passed in the blink of an eye.
In this time, Shen Li was born into the demon world. Known as the Azure Sky King, she was used to living a bright and dazzling life full of successes. Little did she know that her 1000th birthday would bring misfortune to her doorstep—a politically arranged marriage with her name on it.
