"Ed McBain" is one of the pen names of American author and screenwriter Salvatore Albert Lombino (1926-2005), who legally adopted the name Evan Hunter in 1952.
While successful and well known as Evan Hunter, he was even better known as Ed McBain, a name he used for most of his crime fiction, beginning in 1956.
He also used the pen names John Abbott, Curt Cannon, Hunt Collins, Ezra Hannon, Dean Hudson, Evan Hunter, and Richard Marsten.
Unfortunately I gave up on this trilogy of books early on into the first one. Which really isn’t like me at all. It wasn’t that it was written badly, because it wasn’t, but it didn’t grip my interest enough and in my opinion overly explained/described a lot of things. Describing something in five sentences when it could have done so in just one. But as the story did appear to possibly be going in a good direction and most people on goodreads have rated this 4 ⭐️ I might give it another try later on in the year.
These police procedural detective stories were first published in 1961/2 and they have worn well. Don't expect complex mysteries here: it's all about HOW the crime is solved, and the solution itself is not always such a big deal. The stories are set in the fictional city of Isola - New York under another name.
