1.5 stars rounded to 2.

I feel bad for the H in this story, I really do, but he must've been the most obtuse man alive. He'd been married four times, each of his wives had died sudden deaths, and he wasn't at all suspicious? He should have been putting all of his energy trying to figure out what was going on, not looking for another wife to bear an heir for him. I just couldn't wrap my head around the premise of this story. It was too ridiculous, and the H was just TSTL.

Given the mystery and suspense of this story, there was a slightly Gothic vibe to it. The writing was engaging enough and I enjoyed the dual povs. However, the twist was just too obvious, the H was just too dumb, and the hot and cold manner in which he treated the h was too annoyingly angsty.

Never Been Kissed

Rebecca Doutree is 23 and never been kissed. She was shunned on her first season in society due to her voice. Since being treated this way her whole life, she has found a way to fight back. First from a father's scorn, next from unwelcome cruel brother, and from gossipy society peers. Now she finds truth to scandal and prints the articles for all to know. This gives her life meaning and hopefully an income as she knows her father wants to cut her off.

Charles Edwards, Earl of Dunmore, has lost four wives and is looking for a fifth. He wants to prove to his dead father that he is worthy. After the death of his first wife, Charles shuts his emotions off and his other wives meet the same fate as his first but from different things.

Gloria, Lady Shallby, is the sister of Charles' first wife and friend but unwanted love interest for Charles. Gloria has helped all Charles' wives on some way.

Anna, lady's maid, is the Duchess' friend, confidant, and all around helper. Anna has been there for the last three wives and now the current one.

Madam Hershel, the midwife. She is known as a which and famous midwife. She is brought to help keep the current wife healthy and alive.

Paul, the footman, is Anna's boyfriend and now guard to the current Duchess. He is assigned to watch over the Duchess after an attempt on her life was made.

As you might have guessed Rebecca married Charles after getting to know him for her article to prove his innocence. Now thing have started to happen that make her question her beliefs. Charles on the other hand wants Rebecca and gets tied in knots with not knowing how to handle it.

As things get heated and mishaps start occurring can these to trust, converse, and figure out who the bad-guy is before another wife is harmed? Front those first heated kids to the end you will find engaged characters, thrilling twists and suspense in this fast pasted, wonderful read.

I would say more but that would give the story away.

The spinster and the earl.

Rebecca Doutree, is a spinster who has been told by her father and heir, her younger brother, that she is a burden on their house. The heir has a younger twin who is not a burden but then again he's male.
Charles Edwards, the Earl of Dunmore is in town looking for his fifth wife in five years. The first three died of complications in their pregnancies. The fourth died by drowning within two months of marriage. The Earl was cleared of their deaths but the ton still whispers and keeps their daughters away from him. But Charles needs an heir and so he has come to town for the season.
Rebecca secretly writes the famous Unscandal Sheet. She picks up rumours that are destroying people's lives and proves them to be false. So when she meets the infamous Earl she wants to find out the truth. It isn't long before Charles notices her and she allows him to get close to her so that she can question him. Neither of them want to acknowledge the spark that could grow into a fire.
Charles is a very traumatised person. His first sexual experience was with a maid who caused him to become very repressed. He didn't ever feel much for his four wives as all he was concerned with was begetting an heir.
Rebecca is not what he has been used to and he finds himself losing control around her.
Once married things are fine until Rebecca falls pregnant. Then all the strange things start. Mystery, suspense and romance are to be found in this book. Of course his sister's son could never have been his heir as the title would have had to go to a descendant of the male line. i.e. His uncle's son or his great uncle's grandson. If not for this poor research I would have given this five stars but as it is I'm only giving it four.

The story is set in Regency, but there are many inconsistencies, most annoyingly the language.

My pet peeve are errors that could easily be avoided by research:
I assume every English writing author has read Jane Austin and knows about the legal order of succession in England: it was only via the male line never through female relatives. But this author claims the earl's nephew, son of his sister to be his heir, never possible. Why not make him his father's younger brother's son = cousin?

Second mystery is her father's aversion towards her: he wants to get rid of her, she is a burden he doesn't want to drag along any longer - why???

Who bribed the coroner?

The Hero was very annoying being so focused on marriage and procreating and not on revealing causes of the sudden deaths of his wives.

Redeeming The Earl by Jenn Langston is an entertaining historical romance. Ms. Langston has provided readers with a well-written book populated with a wonderful cast of characters. Rebecca writes for the Unscandal Sheet, telling the truth of people involved in scandal. Charles is the Earl of Dunmore and is in search of his fifth wife. Charles and Rebecca's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I enjoyed reading Redeeming The Earl and look forward to reading more from Jenn Langston in the future. Redeeming The Earl is a Perfect Series Companion Book but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

A nice Regency romance murder~mystery. Nowadays with all the freedom and entitlement that authors now enjoy (self~publication) it behooves a discerning reader to sift through the abundance of free ebook choices that daily appear on one's email(in)box. This one is one of the gems I downloaded because it remained true to the genre and the timeline and is not lacking in romance and thrills either.

P.S. ~ Why did the Prince Regent's physician interfere with the coroner's verdict on the deaths of at least 3 of Dunmore's wives? (Note ~ I have to do a re~read and edit this review later.)

The love story of Rebecca and Charles. Rebecca is the author of "Unscandle". The news undo scandals that are not true and print the true. Her father and older brother want her out of the house and merry so they don't have to take care of her. Charles is the Earl of Dunmore and he is under a very bad scandal. He wants the " Unscandle" to print the true about him so he can get a fifth wife. Will the true come out and will Rebecca find a husband? Great story.

Rebecca is the author of The Unscandal Sheet. She investigated rumors and printed the truth. When Charles came to town looking for a wife the rumors about him said that he had killed his previous four wives. Rebecca was determined to find out the truth. Charles decided that she would make a perfect wife.

The story is very interesting and well written. It has enough mystery to keep a person involved. Charles is definitely not the hero type or is he a rogue. But he grows on you.

Just ok

Overall the book was ok. Both characters were very unemotional so their stories read as flat to me. The basic conflict between them boiled down to he loves me/he loves me not and that was repeated ad nauseum. Even the mystery wasn’t that mysterious. All that being said I did finish the book. Don’t know if I’d read more by this author - will likely give her another chance.

Try try again

Poor Lord has a hard time keeping a wife. The fifth time proved to be the charm. Accidents prove his innocence. The only thing I had trouble with was the wrong spelling in some of the words. I hope that will improve in Jenny's other books, and I look forward to following her.

Redeeming the Earl a Perfect Companion!!

I loved so much about this book. I loved the characters, the pace of the tale; and the way the two emotionally stunted protagonists evolved into the perfect couple. I hated the cheesy cover. Although the red herrings were skillfully crafted, I guessed the villainous Gloria was guilty far too early.

This was a disjointed book. Too many conversations off page, but referenced, at the beginning. I figured out the "mystery" before halfway into the book. Both the H and the h were so hot and cold that it was ridiculous to read. I made myself finish it. There was no connection between the H and h. No believable romance. Nope.

I liked the book although as a mystery it was sadly lacking. I saw who the murderer was halfway through and even could pinpoint the reason. Although a nice and kind heroine is always a pleasure to read about!

Great story.

This book in the series has some murder mystery in it. The story is also a classic romance. Some twist and turns with ups and downs along the way. Good continuation of the characters in the series.

The standard

The villain is obvious as is usual in this genre. Charles is weird and his weirdness is never explained. Langston just quickly wrote a fix that doesn't explain how a mindset is changed. And she's too perfect not to have any suitors.

Pretty good

This is an enjoyable mystery romance. It's pretty clear early on to me who the villain really is. Thankfully she's found out before someone else has to die.
