Wonderland #2

The Unraveling

***print edition contains the prequel story, "The Vanishing."***

A year ago, Cadence claimed to have journeyed to Wonderland, but nobody believes her. Melody returns to her childhood home to assist her parents in trying to snap Cadence out of the fantasy she's constructed with Cheshire cats and a heroic knight named Gareth. Only, when Melody follows a white rabbit into the woods, she finds herself in the same place she'd asked Cadence to admit didn't exist.

Very little matters to Hatter aside from tea time and creating things with his hands. After he helps Devrel bring the wrong girl into Wonderland to save Gareth from an arranged marriage, Hatter has no choice but to open his home, and a seat at his tea table, to Melody. Thinking she will undoubtedly leave him as Alice did when he was younger, Hatter tries not to notice his attraction to her even though he cannot seem to look away.

Unbeknownst to them all, Cadence follows her sister down the rabbit hole, but is left to search for Gareth alone. She ventures through the vast Tulgey Wood and realizes danger lurks within the ruins of a kingdom forgotten after the Red Queen executed the Queen of Hearts long ago. Can she warn the people of Wonderland in time, or will she be expelled twice?

Tea, you want tea? You will when reading this book, and you'll want to sit at Hatters table too!

Melody is struggling to help her delusional sister through a breakdown, she claims she went to wonderland and met a man called Gareth and fell in love.... She's concerned they will lock her up soon if things don't improve.

Melody is a very rational lady and when she spots something in the garden she goes to investigate, the next thing she knows she's in another world, full of strange creatures and gorgeous men. The men are very quirky to say the least. She soon realised her sister wasn't delusional unless she has the same illness!

The Mad Hatter, his slightly OCD in how he has systems of where people sit and how he likes clothes to be perfect, maybe his a perfectionist, he certainly knows his trade and dresses the most influential people around.

When he is introduced to Melody he assumes responsibility for her, first he must dress her properly. Melody finds him very strange and seems to enjoy pushing his buttons.

The story is very entertaining, yes it's strange too, it is wonderland after all.

I thoroughly enjoyed my romp in wonderland, Alice wasn't there but was mentioned. The whole of wonderland was shown in a fresh way and the characthers are most definitely more alluring!

I have read authors other books, and have to say found this a 'clean' read, sex is inferred but not in detail.

My thought on finishing the book....

Mayhap, I fell down a rabbit hole and couldn't escape until the last page was turned.

I received a copy of this via Novel Reviewers in return for a fair and honest review.

Anything Alice In Wonderland related is of immediate interest to me, so as soon as I read the blurb and saw the stunning cover of this I knew it would be my kind of book. And I wasn't disappointed!

This isn't a tale of Alice returning, but of Cadence who after spending time in Wonderland is back in 'reality' where nobody believes her and her friends and family all worry for her sanity and her life just becomes a desperate search for her finding a way to return. Her desperation to return is made even greater by her love for Gareth, the dragon slaying knight, who she fell in love with while away.

Even her sister Melody doesn't believe her tales and describes her sister as a lunatic, but when a mission by the White Rabbit to take Cadence back fails by bringing back the wrong sister, and their cat Sunny!, then Melody has no option to believe that Wonderland exists too! She is soon swept up in the craziness and begins to see the wonderful Wonderland that her sister was so desperate to return to!

Nice to read about favourite characters such as the Hatter and Marchy, from a different viewpoint and always good that life in Wonderland continues to be as mad as always. New characters add to the fun and there are many funny, sweet moments in this new story as the girls search to find their happiness

This was a quick, easy and fun story to read and would happily recommend it to fans of Wonderland - old and new!

This book was WONDERFUL and WONDROUS ;). It was good to finally get some resolution. But more importantly I loved seeing Hatter so flustered with Melody. Scenes with Hatter and Melody were my favorite. Pick up this book and read it you will not be disappointed. It is great depiction of what love is like in Wonderland.

Once more a book I stumbled upon while searching for Wonderland retellings on Amazon. It took me a little while to figure out that the first book in the series, which is actually a novella, was included in the paperback of the second book, but then the books ended up in my basket. Also partly because the new cover (not the one this review is attached to, but the white one) is absolutely beautiful and I really needed it on the shelves.

I really loved what the author did in this story. All the elements of the original Wonderland tale are there and the author also adds some original content of her own. The novella already gave us a taste of what was waiting for us, especially because the cliffhanger of that novella was brutal, but the second book in the series was even better. The world building was better, the characterization was better and even the unexplainable was actually explained.

I also loved how the author dealt with the issues of Wonderland being an illogical world. Although Lewis Caroll got away with it, especially because his book has not much of a plot, it's hard to write a new and original story and let go of all logic and sense. This author found a wonderful middle ground. There are still illogical things happening, but there is some logic and there are some rules and therefore the story never feels chaotic or all over the place.

I also really liked all the characters and I was especially happy that the author chose to give this book four point of view characters. We're following both sisters, each having their own adventure, and their guys of course. Therefore we understand their feelings and emotions and I especially like how different the sisters were. And although there is a sequel to this book, the book also works great as a stand-alone. Everyone gets a nice happily for now.

A true wonderland adventure

I dove into this book after finishing the short story that comes before it cause I wanted more. This is a true adventure to wonderland. Did you ever wonder what happened after Alice left? Wonder what happened to the ones left behind? Well I can't imagine a better after story, to a childhood story we all knew and loved. I laughed with the Hatter. My heart broke for the hero. I wanted scream at the queen, and my heart fluttered with not one but two HEA in one amazing story. I'm in love with Rebekah Lewis's wonderland, and I hope she brings me more amazing story's from there.

What an interesting take on a book about Wonderland and most of the inhabitants there. The book focused on Melody and Hatter, (yes, the same hatter you may know as the Mad Hatter from Alice and Wonderland.) I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the authors unique take on the characters in Wonderland. It was a whimsical adventure into Wonderland. Very well done.

I read The Vanishing (short story) in 2014 and it left me wanting more. I'm glad to finally revisit Wonderland with The Unraveling. Happy too, that The Vanishing is included in this book. You wouldn't want to miss that one.

I was happy to return to Wonderland with The Unraveling. How could you not love a flustered Hatter?
Bonus! The short story, The Vanishing, is included.
