Rachael is now a graduate, but her journey to adulthood takes a detour when she finds herself road tripping with her redheaded nymphomaniac roommate. There’s big trouble in the rear view mirror and unexpected mayhem on the horizon, thanks to a voodoo witch doctor who demands a favor.
Despite bumps in the road, her romantic life takes a turn for the better when she reunites with an illusive old flame. He likes to keep secrets, but this time she is determined to know the real him and what he wants from her.
This spicy tale of foreign intrigue tests Rachael’s resolve and courage and will have you rooting for her to find her way in Paisley Ray’s, HOT TAMALE.
The Rachael O'Brien Chronicles are not your typical fiction. A young woman's plan for an art history degree turns into an outrageous series of misadventures in this laugh-out-loud romp about a girl who enrolls in a southern college during the height of the crazy era that was the 1980's. This collection crosses genres of chick lit, mystery, romance, humor, and action with the possibility of a corpse or two.
The 8th book of the Rachael O’Brien Chronicles, Hot Tamale, has a great, exciting storyline. The problem with it is that it is in bad need of an additional editing run-through. At least once I noticed the wrong character’s name is used and many times a random word would appear in a sentence when it shouldn’t have. One time I couldn’t figure out what the sentence was supposed to say. Without those editing issues, it would have been a 5 star book.
I know I said that I wouldn't read more, but I did. Relationships are still weird and stilted, lacking the humor of the first few books. And really, the plot line for this one Is entirely unbelievable. With friends like her's, Rachael needs a bodyguard. And the author really subscribes to the six degrees of separation theory. But, unfortunately this one is bit of a cliffhanger, so I guess I'm on to number nine.
This is my favorite of the series since the first book. I adore Stone and really have grown to like Sheila. The pace of the book was fast and drew me along. I couldn't put this one down.
This series is a great way to get lost in something clever and fast paced, which is a valuable genre. Endearing characters and a plot that ties in many hilarious stories, and at the same time a bit historical with art culture and geography. Love this series!
Once again Rachel and her escapades kept me entertained and reading. If it were me I would reevaluate my relationship with sheila...reality I liked this tale.
Hot Tamale by Paisley Ray is the 8th book in the Rachael O'Brien series. Rachael has graduated and is returning to Beaufort, SC to work in a local art gallery. However, nothing goes as planned with Rachael O'Brien...and a funny thing happens on the way to Beaufort. Police are looking for Rachael in connection to the murder of Buell Blake in Beaufort. Rachael's on again, off again friend and roommate has just received her graduation present, a brand new beemer and their adventure begins. This book is your typical Rachael O'Brien story. You never know what is going to happen. Or where you are going to go (North Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, Mexico, New Mexico). Oh my. Or who will show up...Old beaus, root doctors and corrupt Mexicans. Rachael finds herself in some difficult situations. She even wrestles a murphy bed. Another fun hit by Paisley Ray.
This is the 8th book in the Rachael O'Brien Chronicles -- and I've loved them all so far! Funny, touching, with unexpected plot twists and a wonderful assortment of quirky characters. these books are a great read. It does help to read the entire series, in order. There's a LOT going on and you won't want to miss a thing! I already have the next book in the series on pre-order.
While this isn't the best of Ray's work, it was still a fun read. It seemed a bit rushed, disjointed. This may be in part due to poor editing. I hit more than a spot where a word was missing, or punctuation errors upset the flow. Too bad..... Great story line, Rachel can sure get suckered into the worst scenarios. Looking forward to #9.
Love this story. Could hardly put it down. Rachel's adventures and mishaps do not disappoint in this book, although I missed the "note to self" ending of each chapter as was in all of the previous books.
